Sahari Restaurant

Reviewed By gourmetflo - Zurich, Switzerland

We had an extended lunch here on the way from Wahiba Sands to Muscat...and seeing the fishermen collectively unload their catch right next to the restaurant we asked for fish: we were presented super-fresh fishes, ranging from 10-16 OMR.
We started with typical Mezze - Hummus was excellent Mutabbal the best we had during our Oman trip, and even the Raita was outstanding. We were served a freshly backed, giant sesame flat bread with it - delicious in itself.
The fish was marinated in a tandoori-like way, and then grilled to perfection - a delight.
Seating is comfortable (though the view is limited to the bay, the fisherboats and a few decaying Dhaus - can’t see actual city of Sur from the ground floor, there is a rooftop Terrace without shadow though).
And to our delight, together with fruit juices, water etc it all set us back only 24 OMR...maybe expensive compared to the many very basic local joints where we had Biryani for 1-2 OMR, but certainly better and cheaper than most hotel meals we had.
We would come back here any time - was one of the best meals in a week in Oman.

Zaki

Reviewed By Scott M - Lake Charles, Louisiana

In general, the food in Zaki is pretty good, decent naan and curries, shawarma, etc. Have had different experiences regarding service, to get service at all, you need to be quite pushy and demanding, watch what others do and you can learn and fit in without thinking that you're being rude. Please manage expectations, the average rating is only due to the limited choices in Sur.

Zaki Restaurant

Feels to me like one of those hyped up tourist places ... only because the prices are reasonable for European standards-and outright cheap from an Dubai based perspective does not make this a good restaurant... fish was overcooked ... spicy food was anything but spicy... salad dressing made with cheapest industrial oil ... I would not come back only for the secuirty of being treated “tourist-friendly” ...but hey we were to lazy to explorer Sur further and should not overly complain

Zfc. Zaki Fried Chicken

Reviewed By Adele T - London, United Kingdom

Driving through Sur at 3pm in the afternoon looking for a food outlet that was open proved rather difficult, luckily we found ZFC! The fried chicken was fresh, hot and crispy (try the wrap) and the Seating area, although small, was both clean and air conditioned. The staff were friendly even though their English was very limited. They also kindly let me use their toilet facilities.

Sur Beach Holiday

The restaurant is located in a rather large semi-circular room offering sea views. However due to its size and shape, it can get very noisy with young children and adults alike, the former playing or crying, and the latter trying to talk over the noise. It must also get busy as the tables were pretty dirty by the time we got there by mid-afternoon, and the staff only summarily wiped them in between services. My main complaint though is that even though the food is decent but average, the prices are very steep (17 OMR for two 2-course meals and drinks). If you can, try instead to drive to the old town, or just walk around the hotel and mix with the locals: there is a Moroccan place just across the road, or a Zaki café on the beach next to the resort where we had starters, tasty shawarma/kebab with fries and fresh juices for two for just 3 OMR.

Sur Sea Restaurant

Reviewed By zenu - London

On our visit to Sur we were looking for a seafood restaurant which was not over priced. Our guide suggested the Sur Sea Restaurant.
Outdoor Seating is spacious but not comfortable with heavy traffic and souq shoppers. Indoor Seating is adequate, clean and air conditioned.
There is a wide choice of dishes, vegetarians are well catered for - however, the prime focus is seafood a la indienne. What was dished up was a mediocre fare - a pity because the seafood was fresh....the jumbo prawns lacked flavour, the platter of mixed seafood did not satisfy: the local fish (hamour) was cooked to perfection but the squids and prawns were rubbery, overcooked and crying out for flavour. The salad, parathas/rotis (Indian bread), as accompaniment to the seafood were enjoyed by all. Seafood rice (similar to a biriani) was fragrant and very tasty - however, it was served with a very bland vegetarian curry. Fresh fruit juices (about 70p) are delicious and the mango we tried was divine. The most expensive dish, the mixed seafood grill costs about £8.50 - reasonably priced for Oman.
Service is excellent and restaurant staff are very attentive and receptive to requests.

Grabbed a cheap dinner here on a short overnight stay in Sur. There aren't many options in town. They have great kabob options. Menu is in English if you don't speak arabic. The cook also spoke arabic. Very affordable and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised. 2 shisha next door for a dinner follow on if that's your thing.

Pizza Hut

Reviewed By TheGlacierist - Windsor, Canada

For some reason I expected Pizza Hut here to be different than the ones I usually see I either Canada or the US, as this sometimes happen in other countries. I was wrong. It was totally equivalent and the Pizza was as good as any I get back in North America. I was also happy with their level of cleanliness. However, it is still fast food one can take in a hurry. I guess I would have preferred a local dish in such a place if the time allowed.

Zaki Restaurant

Zaki Cafe a destination for friends and family to have a cup of coffee, a hearty lunch or small bites in the evening or for dinner.

After being a little taken aback by being directed to the family section (two women traveling alone), we really appreciated the experience of sitting on the floor in a curtained area. (There are plenty of regular tables also in the family section. )
The food was delicious. We had the whole goffer? fish with biryani rice Omani style. The best fish I've had in a long time. One fish is enough for two.
The waiter also told us about the new Zaki Hotel Apartments which had opened next door the previous month. We had a look and they were so nice, we decided to stay for two nights and use Sur as a base for exploring Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi and the sinkhole. I will review the hotel separately.
