Fjorubordid

At the seashore the giant langoustine makes appointments with mermaids and landlubbers. He waves his large claws, attracting the desire to be in the company of starfish and lumpfish. The village´s corrugated iron houses, located just above its harbour, smack of ocean fragrance and seahorses. The soup is magical. It is suitable for numerous occasions and happy moments on ordinary days, but Fjöruborðið takes no responsibility for consequences or stirring adventures that could result from ingesting it. It has a will of its own and, as such, it is risky for those who don't want to venture beyond the average. This is the most famous langoustine soup in the Republic of Iceland, prepared by handsome cooks who step naked out of the ocean at Stokkseyri with their catch.

This restaurant was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. We went for dinner so unfortunately did get to see the views from the restaurant. However the food was incredible and well worth the visit. We had the langoustine and they were really delicious. For dessert we had meringue cake which was also outstanding and we were told was the server’s grandmother’s recipe. The restaurant was wonderful as the staff were really friendly and helpful. There is also a kids menu which was good for one of our family that didn’t want to try the lobsters. This restaurant was a bit out of the way for us but was well worth the stop. One of our best meals in Iceland.

On an island where you nearly have to pay to breathe it is a breath of fresh air when a business charges reasonable prices for excellent food.
Having walked to the top of Skogafoss and then a further 3 miles, by the time we returned to the car we were starving. Had heard rumors of a fish and chip fan near Skogar so was pleased when we found Mia's.
The food did not disappoint. The fish was fresh and excellently cooked as were the chips. Multiple dips to choose from as well as soft drinks.
Food came out piping hot, cooked to perfection and we didnt have to wait long! So good!!!

Einsi Kaldi

The restaurant Einsi Kaldi is located on the ground floor of Hotel Vestmannaeyjar. The house itself is a historic place, where a lot of establishments have been located, such as a cinema, a soda factory, a printshop and later on it was used as a storage building. The house collapsed during the volcano eruption of 1973 but was rebuilt again in 1975. The owner of the restaurant Einar Bjorn Arnason ,,Einsi kaldi", local man, born and raised in Vestmannaeyjar, enjoys greatly to put his magic and imagination into delicious seafood-dishes and for that he is renowned. His interest in working with fresh fish is not really surprising since he is so close to one of our richest fishing grounds, which gives him the opportunity to obtain fresh products from the boats daily. He actually puts a great emphasis on obtaining his products locally, such as cliff- and seabirds along with various herbs picked on the Island. During the summer Einsi kaldi, and his team offers a diverse menu from lunchtime to evening, seven days a week. At lunch the emphasis is on light and fresh dishes, such as soup, meet and of course fresh Icelandic fish and Danish Open Sandwiches. In the evening variety is the name of the game and you can choose everything from appetizers to sumptuous meat and fish dishes, something for all tastes.

Wandering around town until we decided to try here. A much more inventive and tasty lunch than we had expected. The chef has high aims and deserves your support. The room is more modern and 'designed' than many which makes for a nice ambience.
And we even had a chance to try some smoked puffin

Slippurinn

WE ARE OPEN FROM MAY-SEPTEMBER We are proud to mention that in October 2015, Slippurinn was ranked as Iceland's second best restaurant according to the White Guide / Best restaurants in the Nordics. Slippurinn is a family run eatery by the harbour in a 100 year old building that once housed a machine-workshop that served the old shipyard. It's casual, friendly and excellent quality. Our philosophy is simple and honest, we cook our food from scratch using the best ingredients in season. We get most of our vegetables from farmers on the south coast and we go next door to the fish market to get the freshest fish possible. We grow our own herbs and salads and forage the island for wild herbs and seaweeds. Our unique cocktails made from local herbs are a must try! The highly ambitious kitchen is run by chef Gísli Matthías Audunsson. Indiana his sister, is the general manager and bar manager and mom Katrín is the front of house.

The historic industrial past of the building provides the setting for lovely meals prepared with care using many local ingredients. You won't find. better, fresher food anywhere in Iceland. Fish dishes 'to die for' and some very unusual. The Rhubarb Cake was lovely and the Grilled Pears with hazelnuts and lovage emulsion worth going back for.

Small Ethiopian restaurant run by the Icelandic owner and his Ethiopian wife. Great food, vegetarian friendly, and reasonably priced by Icelandic standards. The decor is outstanding, and worth spending a few minutes walking around to admire the artifacts. We were a group of 6 people so we had to wait a bit, since it is a small place, but well worth it.

Ranga Restaurant

Rangá restaurant is an acclaimed gourmet restaurant overlooking one of Iceland's finest salmon rivers, East-Rangá River. The restaurant's motto is the concept of a "Farmers Market" - in effect using predominantly local ingredients of the highest quality and freshness - following seasonal availability. The menu is inspired by modern Nordic cuisine. The world renowned Christmas Buffet with European and Scandinavian gourmet dishes is available November to December every year. The wine list and bar selection is extensive and is sure to satisfy even the most demanding connoisseur.

We ate dinner here, based on a tour book recommendation, and were so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we were charmed. It is over 100 years old, (I think they said 1890), built originally as a boarding house for the workers who constructed the nearby bridge. As a restaurant, they have kept the coziness of living spaces, and decorated with a feel for the 1940s, extending the theme even to the background music, which was delightful. We asked for a table by a window for a beautiful view of the river, Bridge, and Mountains. Food was delicious, and service was excellent.

We are a family run restaurant and coffee shop that offers local produce as well as products made here on the farm; such as cheeses, skyr, icecream and our own beef. We buy all fresh local vegetables from the county and make our foods from scratch, using traditional Icelandic styles with a modern twist. We are located along the Golden Circle route 37, so if youa re travelling in the area, please feel free to stop by for some ice cream or for something to eat. We ask that guests please make reservation for dinner, as we are often quite busy. Best regards, The Efstidalur Family

Every tour bus should stop here!
It wasn’t on our schedule, but I suggested to the driver we should take a short stop here, at least for an ice cream cone. Actually, I mostly wanted to see the main attraction, the source of the delicious, creamy treat just a few meters away from us, on the other side of the window. Really, this is a special attraction on its own and a memorable one!
