Tambopata Research Center

The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a comfortable 24 bedroom lodge. Because of its remote location in the uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in-depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife giving you the opportunity of unique wildlife encounters such as 35% chances to see a jaguar, 67% chances to see a troop of spider monkeys and its paradise of scarlet macaws. It is the only one located in a half-hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the two world's largest and most diverse macaw clay lick. The Tambopata Research Center is now only 4.5 hours away from Puerto Maldonado taking 1 hour by bus plus 3.5 hours by boat. The experience includes all land and river transportation from /to Puerto Maldonado airport, a set of activities and excursions that you can choose from, all meals and accommodation.

Amazing place, awesome guide and experience!

My son, my brother, and I visited TRC in May. We all agreed it was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru. We had an amazing room with an outdoor seating area and an outdoor shower and bathtub. The days can get a little warm, but the nights are cool and we slept well under the mosquito nets. The included food was great and we looked forward to our meals. The bar was a nice spot to sit and wind down after a day of touring/hiking. Jair, our guide, was amazing. He knows the rainforest well and spotted so many animals. He took many pictures for us. it was great getting to know him and the other guests in our group. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this lodge and company.

Relax in style near colonial charm

Reviewed By ABoadle

This was the most comfortable and luxurious place we have stayed at in Pirenópolis, a charming provincial town that grew from a gold rush in the 18th century. The best part was the lovely infinity pool with a heating system that took the nip of cold out of the water. The bungalows are very clean and furnished with good taste, nothing missing. The breakfast was not exceptional, but good. The staff were most friendly and very helpful, dealing as they are with working in the risky coronavirus pandemic. The precautions taken by the management were excellent. The place was not too crowded and we felt very safe. Thank you! P.S. One gripe = the WIFI was very slow, that needs to be improved. I mean, if you have a helipad with lights for nigh landings you could have broadband Internet, no?!

Excellent for the Family

Reviewed By Rogerio L

Spent a weekend here with my wife, 2 year old boy, and newborn and was extremely pleased with everything. From the moment we arrived in our room, the staff had already setup a portable crib (playpen) next to our bed, separated a smaller bed for our 2 year old, left the TV on for us in a kids channel (we arrived with Pepper Pig playing which the kids love), and on our bed there was a hand written note with 2 chocolates welcoming our family. Talk about getting the first impressions right !!! Room size is decent, with flat screen TV, mini fridge, and portable heater. There's a small pool available and they recently built some external toys (swings, jumping table, slides). Breakfast is standard for the region, and in the evening we were again surprised they served a coffee break worth cakes, juices, fruits. Staff is very friendly, and some speak decent English. If you're traveling with family and kids you can't go wrong here! I was very pleased with our stay and highly recommend it.

Location with lots of potential but falls short

Reviewed By DMamigo

This is a beautiful location, with a couple lakes and nice scenery. The location is a gated and guarded (with what I want to recall, was someone with a firearm)(? really, is it that dangerous?), where it seems you need a reservation to arrive (we had). The access road is a bit unsafe for a motorcycle if the ground is wet/ and/or raining. Parking is a bit removed and you need to carry your bags a bit of a distance. You need to pass through the cabin (pod) area to get to the reception building, passing though a gate that marks the area you just walked through, was for patrons only. cabins are quaint, two rooms with a shared bathroom with a hot water shower. The entry area of the pod and the bathroom are not heated. The rooms have ceramic heaters and do an adequate job. The hot water takes a while to start and could fluctuate to cold; not what you need when it is cold outside. Our pod had a flat-screen TV with lines through it, I notified the staff, and it seemed they were aware, and didn't really show any concern. Signs are posted in the pods that you can not bring in outside drinks and food, and the provisions they provide for purchase in the pods is a bit over priced. As another review pointed out, it seems you're just a source of money to the proprietors. when we were there, we were met with inclimate weather (cold and rainy), and unable to participate in much of the available features, only a few of which didn't require more money. The "restaurant" was a nice glass enclosed building, which enabled you to view the surroundings. They heat the inside when appropriate. when not functioning as a restaurant, they have a couple TV's, a Wii, and an assortment of traditional card and board games to choose from. The restaurant had a menu to choose from or you could opt for the buffet style at indicated meal times. I wasn't impressed with the selection or quality of the buffet, menu selection was okay. It seemed as though the staff was friendly, but their seemingly overbearing monitoring at meal time was a bit intrusive. (see another reviewers post). When we were there, they were getting ready to open their new spa. We didn't use the spa, but did get a tour. They had several hot tubs and cold and hot saunas. The hot tubs seemed very close together, and didn't really provide much of any real privacy.

Great for couples. Breakfast is amazing, very cozy and comfy lodges. Massages are expensive. They also serve a 5pm tea, also amazing. Quiet and relaxing. Ask for a room with ofurô. Note that The whole thing has a kind of French, almost kitch look. They’re fancy. If you don’t care for that, this is not your place.

Solar Maria Carolina

We are a small and charming inn, in the rural area of Mário Campos, Minas Gerais. We are about about 40km from Belo Horizonte, 83km from Confins International Airport and 19km from INHOTIM, the world's largest open air contemporary art museum! We like receiving everyone as if they were friends and family, just like Minas Gerais tradition dictates, with a fresh (and homemade of course) pão de queijo, broinha de milho and some cafezinho. We love spending our time baking cakes, breads, making our own jams, cheeses, iogurtes, and more…. Breakfast, lunch and dinners are all well-served with locally sourced ingredients if they are not produced on our own 13hectare farm. Everything made with love and care. Can’t wait to have you over!

Like a stay in the beautiful home of the most gracious friends (who really know how to cook!)

Reviewed By Kathlene C

Solar Maria Carolina is a perfect country retreat -- and with help from our cheerful local drivers, a great home base for two days of exploration at Inhotim. Maria provided excellent advice starting long before we arrived and she and Willem welcomed us like old friends. Pretty, comfortable rooms and exceptionally enjoyable shared spaces on the patio around the pool made for an ideal temporary home for our group of friends (and for a bit of star gazing). Meals -- created with care, imagination and respect for tradition from local ingredients, many right from the property -- were colorful, satisfying and entirely delicious. It was an absolutely fantastic stay.
