Sitting where the Phoenician colony of Hadrumetum once stood nearly 3,000 years ago, the modern-day Sousse is a resort destination, especially popular with Europeans. Sometimes called "the Pearl of the Sahel" (referring to the central section of Tunisia's eastern shoreline), Sousse is prized for its excellent beaches. Arab-Islamic since the 7th century AD, the city has many fascinating attractions, like the 9th-century Great Mosque, and its medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our last day at the marahaba royal Salem hotel. What a fantastic week. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The animation team do such a great job working long hours and have always got a friendly smile and take the time to chat. I’m worn off my feet with all the dancing, especially with mario, gringo, panda and sou sou, they even had me joining in with the childrens entrrtainment. The food is fantastic always lots of choices. We dined at the traditional Tunisian night. The food was amazing. Will definitely come back .

Won't bore you, so I will just whittle it down. Rooms lovely, cleaned daily, hotel and grounds very well kept, food very good, only struggled once only because I don't eat fish or turkey, drinks very good albeit very very strong the cocktails were very potent. Soft drinks, lager, spirits, cocktails, tea coffee. Staff are all so lovely can't do enough for you, a tip goes a long way and they will look after you. The bazaar at the hotel however very very pushy men, not impressed selling cigarettes for 8 dinar when they cost 4? But hey ho you live and learn. Also put a necklace on our 9yr old grandson so he would like it without us knowing and hounded us to pay? Saying it was real silver etc? Anyway we sorted it and gave it back as it broke, and we refused to pay. The beach is nice lots of beds, each bar, with soft drinks, beer, coffee. Be aware of the men and women selling stuff they are a pain, just say no thanks, they will leave you alone. We spent all our time at the Royal Salem pool, fab animation team all of them so lovely. Plenty of beds, warm pools. Spent my birthday here and they all sang happy birthday to me at the pool and brought a cake out in the evening. All in all, lovely family holiday. Would I return????. In a heartbeat ❤️

BEAUTIFUL STAY AND BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE

Reviewed By nbK9531VA

I stayed here with friends and had an amazing holiday . The animation team are brilliant and they always there to help, very friendly and plenty of activities to do for adults & children and their shows are some of the best I’ve seen when being abroad and always lots of people watching. The food I personally found had a lot of flavour and always found something to eat and lots of traditional Tunisian food and fresh pancakes & Nutella for breakfast ? some English people moaned not enough English choices but We are in another country so of course it is not to be loads of English choices. The size of the cups drinks could be bigger as needed to get several at one time and cocktails at the pool bar would be a good thing to do to save going back to the main bar. Most of the reception team was wonderful apart from the night reception man he was rude and unhelpful many times & the security on the beach was extremely strange at times I’m not sure why but made sitting on the beach unpleasant for us. The security on the doors were lovely and caring and made sure we was safe every night after drinking. The cleaner was fantastic and was teaching me and my friends Arabic which was very kind of her. Overall fantastic experience for a brilliant price and would be happy to return in the future.

Definitely not as advertised

The staff and food are brilliant at this hotel BUT Arrived at Enfidha airport on Saturday 7th may and easily found our rep who advised us where our transfer was. He also mentioned that Marhaba was closed and that we had been moved to Occidental next door. When we got off the transfer i said to the Easyjet rep that on Friday 6th may Marhaba had posted on their facebook page that they were open, the rep was adamant that the Marhaba was closed and we had been moved to Occidental. Checked into Occidental and the receptionist said our room wasn't ready and to come back in an hour.We left it 2 hours to go back only for the receptionist to rudely and aggressively tell us that we shouldn't be there and we had to go next door to the Marhaba,we left and found our own way to Marhaba. Checked into Marhaba and shown to our room ,only to find we had a twin room instead of a double room,so back down to reception and we were moved to a double room with a 1 square foot sea veiw room. After unpacking we went for a walk around the resort ,and i wanted to come home straight away !! The swimming pool roof was being rethatched with tools ,thatch and materials all over the place. The swimming pool was half empty. Got up the next day and everything was cleaned up so i thought things were on the up ,but i was so wrong !! This hotel should of never have opened as there is so much work going on ,scaffolding ,painting, plastering, gardening and is next to a building site !! Inbetween Marhaba and Occidental is a building site where there is a water park being built and which should open on 1st june.Travel companies have a legal requirement to tell customers if there is building work going on at a hotel. There is no mention of this on Easyjets website or any of the holiday confirmation from Easyjet. On Sunday 15th May a JCB digger started working at 11.45pm and finished at 4.45am,continuosly bringing boulders from the beach to the building site, giving us roughly 2 hours sleep before the day work started at 7.30am On Monday 16th May JCB digger finished work at 11.00pm. We had sleepless nights for the first 10 nights There were so many complaints to the hotel about the night work that this was the last night we were kept awake. I feel we have completely been missold this holiday from Easyjet as it is nothing like its advert on their website. Marhaba beach - no sunbeds or brollies as out of use Marahaba snack bar on beach - closed Marhaba beach bar - being built Tennis courts - at Occidental Mini golf - at Occidental Tunisian Cafe - at Occidental It is not mega sized and doesnt have a lagoon like pool The only faclilities open at Marhaba are the swimming pool and bar ,lobby bar and main restaurant. As we didnt see our rep until the return transfer we had no idea of any excursions or that we could use the facilities at Occdental and no mention on Easyjets website saying to use the facilities next door. The description of Marhaba is of the Occidental so completely misleading. We went for a much needed 2 week relaxing and restful holiday and we got anything but. Please see pics and videos validating our claim for compensation as this holiday was not as advertised and i feel completely missold by Easyjet

Could have been better

Reviewed By 460clars

The hotels in SOUSSE are generally all massive concrete structures stemming from the mid 70s and generally offer all-inclusive. The Marriott is also one of these buildings but one of the few hotels to offer B&B. Originally a 2 wing construction built in 1976 Marriott only took over one of the buildings. The other has been left to decay. The facade of the Marriott however doesn’t look much better and seriously needs a new coat of paint. The new and handsome lobby annex however deters from the run down main building. The interior nevertheless is a different story - modern, minimalistic and incorporates traditional Tunisian-Arabic quotation elements very effectively. This is continued in the rooms which are fresh and airy. However despite being titled “Room with Sea View” the main view is the dilapidated shell of the original sister wing opposite. It is a sore sight and a big dampener. Breakfast was good and F&B staff friendly. However many of the advertised restaurants and bars were just not open and running and the buffet dinner was canteen standard. House keeping left much to be desired. On the first day of my stay the room wasn’t cleaned. Generally the carpets in the passages were in desperate need of a vacuum clean. No one seemed to care. Reception staff either had their heads buried in their computers or busy on their mobiles. Disinterested and unmotivated. And then the awful piano playing - the same music loop complete with the same mistakes repeating over and over. Terrible! I am a Marriott tiered member but a room upgrade was refused even though the hotel was running at maybe 10% capacity.
