Ringo's Donuts

Reviewed By 1Chuckh - Newport News, Virginia

Stopped by to pick up a dozen donuts for a meeting on a Saturday morning. There was a line of people waiting to get the fresh goods. They had a nice selection of standard and more creative concoctions, They offer both glazed and cake donuts to please the deeply divided factions among donut lovers. My only regret was only getting three of the "squealers" maple glazed with chunks of bacon. They got scarfed up by the others at the meeting. Next time I'm putting one aside for me.

Wharf Hill Brewing Company is in beautiful historic area of Smithfield. The restaurant staff was lovely and accommodating. We were told they didn’t accept reservations on Fridays and we expected to wait. We waited about 30 minutes for a table for 2. During the wait the staff offered to serve us cocktails. Our waitress was so sweet. The food was amazing. I’d recommend the mesquite chicken. Parking is extremely limited so you may have to walk about a block. Enjoy!

Cure Coffeehouse

My husband and I decided to try a new coffee shop in town. Located on Church Street the front is all windows with a bar and seating facing the street. There was also seating inside. Light inside with whites and black accents. Very cute. Service at the counter was okay and the coffee I had was good. My husband's vanilla latte was just okay per his taste. About $7 for both. Others with computers were busy enjoying the new shop. They also had a small selection of salads and sandwiches.

This is inside a Farm Fresh supermarket and the service is good. Coffee is great and nice to have a cup as you shop. Places to sit and read if you take someone else that doesn't want to walk around.

Taste of Smithfield

We were enjoying a walk downtown on Main Street and stopped at this popular location for lunch. Seating on each end of the restaurant was packed. We could either sit outside of at the bar. We sat at the bar and watched the chef and staff make the food. They told us we could wait for a table. We would sit at a table next time as bar crowded and in walkway area. I also looked at the local photos of Smithfield and shopped in the middle area between the seating areas. I had the Pagan Cuban with the Smithfield ham sliced thin and BBQ, cheese and pickles and mac and cheese with bacon. Sandwich very good. My husband had the special that was the spicy chicken sandwich with bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato and sweet potato fries. Sandwich good and fries with alot of potato flavor. Coffee is great! Service good. Prices moderate. Will go again.

Smithfield Ice Cream Parlor

Reviewed By JLDC - Smithfield, Virginia

While walking through downtown Smithfield we stopped at this location. Setup like an old soda fountain with booths, red and white strip awnings over counter with stools and pictures of area on paneled walls. Four of us decided on ice cream even though they have sandwiches also. I had a waffle cone of strawberry, my husband had salted caramel chocolate chip along with a cousin and our other cousin had rainbow sherbet and chocolate. The last combo sounds strange but this man has chocolate with everything! I love the old field and the ice cream is good. Very popular with inside and outside seating. Would recommend.

This just opened two doors down from a Taste of Smithfield. Great bakery with home made taste and fair pricing. Layer cakes, cookies, savory breads and other lovely bakery items. Baked from scratch with quality ingredients. When we walked in we could appreciate the aroma of a true bakery. We bought a molasses cookie and a chocolate chipe cookie. both were large and tasted homemade, the highest complement I could give a cookie.

The bakery has a great selection of layer cakes and savory breads like apple cranberry, blueberry etc. Perfect for serving with tea, for breakfast or as additions to your Thanksgiving meal.

On my birthday my husband took me to this restaurant. I have always enjoyed this place and my husband loves the shrimp and grits. It is on the water and has great views. My husband had the shrimp and grits that is very good which is not listed on the menu. Shrimp tender and a little kick. I ordered the broiled seafood platter that had flounder, crab cake, scallops, shrimp, baked potato and hush puppies. I also ordered a small salad. They brought a small loaf of warm bread also. We had tea and diet coke. Bread was wonderful and salad good. The platter was just average. even though hush puppies, potato and shrimp were good the crab cake and flounder tasted like it had been frozen before as a little mushy and flavor was lacking. The scallops had good flavor but could had been broiled with a little crust that would have added flavor. Total bill $54.37 before tip for two, pricey. I will go again but avoid the platter. I have had other dishes that were better and location nice. Service good in bar dining with views.
