The American Hotel Restaurant

Reviewed By Jordianne - Clinton

I stopped for lunch around 1:30 on the Saturday of the Harvest Festival. The hostess told me the wait was 30 to 45 minutes. I elected to wait. I had been here before and had a very good experience. And, lunch options were limited elsewhere unless I wanted a food stand. So, I waited and waited and waited. After about 45 minutes (when I was pretty sure that a party of two who had come in after me were seated), I checked with the hostess to see where I was on the list. She told me there were five parties (still) in front of me. So, I waited some more. About 1/2 later (after almost everyone had been seated) I went up to check again. Fortunately, one of the owners was at the desk at the time. I noticed that several parties on the second page of the list had already been seated. I was on the bottom of the first page. When I pointed that out to him, things QUICKLY moved along. I was brought a menu and told that I could place my order now and would be seated as soon as a table became available. I was seated within a minute. My order was promptly taken.

The burger was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The corn chowder was hot and tasty. The Chardonnay was very nice. My waitress was attentive. I am pretty sure she was made aware of my situation.

So, the experience ended very well and I will return. I suspect there was an error (in judgement(?)) made by the hostess initially. The co-owner and waitress more than made up for it.

The steak sandwich typical. Comes with cheese, mushrooms, onions on a perfectly toasted bun. Of course, you can delete any of the toppings you don't like. There is about 16 tables for outside eating. We ordered fries, they were cooked to order, very fresh. Not greasy or soggy. :) No room for ice cream, but next time. A little pricey, $6.25 steak, $2.75 fries.

Love this place. We stop here on our way to Cooperstown. The food is fine, but I love the Teepee because there are some special things inside the Teepee store to buy, made by American Indians.

Sure they have nice moccasins and lovely
Gifts, but they also have some exceptional
Things made by America Indians like Salad Bowls made of magnificent wood and some wonderful jewelry. The special handmade works are not inexpensive, but they are magnificent and quite worth the price. The materials used are timeless.

The owners of this place love the American
Indians and always make sure to have some important pieces made my Contemporary American Indian Artists.

I didn't expect to see such quality in a small
Gift shop. You might want to ask the owners to direct you, in your purchases.

You can fine real luxury in this store, if you want it.

204 Main Bar & Bistro

My sister & I dined at 204 after a day in Cooperstown. What a rare treat to have gloriously delicious food in a restaurant hitting on all cylinders -caring, warmth of spirit by owner, chef and server and sleek, creative, uplifting decor. We both selected Coconut Curry ($19.99) as photo'ed with refreshing, light but flavorful vanilla panna cotta with local honey topping for dessert. Fresh, warm sour dough bread & butter is served with the meal. A la carte side dishes and appetizers are plentiful with unique using local ingredients, whenever possible. Food is lovingly prepared with attention to all details. It was a cold, snowy winter's eve during Christmas holiday week with a lake effect snow forecast to hit any second. A better place to dine could not have been selected. This was my first dining experience at 204. My sister returns at every opportunity, as this is one of her most favorite dining experiences. It will be yours as well. Go! (NOTE: Wheelchair accessibility? Check with restaurant before you go!) Also, you can stay the night in the "NASH", their hip inn above the restaurant - sure to be an equally winning choice!

Rose & Kettle Restaurant

Reviewed By elleng - Sudbury, MA

The Rose & Kettle almost makes the Berkshires' restaurants seems like fast food (Mezze in Williamstown notwithstanding). It's yet another upstate NY restaurant that prides itself on sourcing food locally, but that food happens to be really good! And the building itself is cozy and charming, housed in what looks like a house from the late 1800s with a farmer's porch that's used for dining in summer (there are flies if there is no breeze, though, so you may want to eat inside).

The menu changes depending on what's available, so can't mention anything specifically, but it's all really good. Do yourself a favor and splurge a bit. It may not be as inexpensive as the popular Mexican restaurants across the street, but I'll bet that when all is said and done, the checks add up to about the same.

We really didn't like anything about this place. The rice sticks were under-cooked. The flavors were nothing like Thai that I'm used to which is weird considering it's owned and operated by a Thai couple. The food really was terrible. The seating was awkward, big vinyl high-backed benches straight out of 1978...and you have to walk through a...kind of a garage sale/junk shop to get to the seating area.

Skip this place.

Dairy Deli

Reviewed By danfriedmanmd - Miller Place, New York

I didn't go in to this restaurant, whose name, dairy deli, is very deceiving from their real cuisine of Thai food, expecting anything great. However, the interior is very lovely, nice alcoves to find a seat where waitresses deliver you food. However, this food was very expensive and terrible.
