Scotland, United Kingdom Food Guide: 10 Scottish food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Fortrose

Discover Restaurants offering the best Scottish food in Fortrose, Scotland, United Kingdom. Fortrose (Scottish Gaelic: A' Chananaich, Scots: Chainry) is a town and former burgh in the Scottish Highlands. It is on the Moray Firth, about 6 miles (9.7 km) north-east of Inverness. The town is known for its ruined 13th century cathedral, and as the home of the Brahan Seer. In the Middle Ages it was the seat of the bishopric of Ross. The Cathedral was largely demolished in the mid-seventeenth century by Oliver Cromwell to provide building materials for a citadel at Inverness. The vaulted south aisle, with bell-tower, and a detached chapter house (used as the tollbooth of Fortrose after the Reformation) remain. These fragments, though modest in scale, display considerable architectural refinement, and are in the care of Historic Scotland (no entrance charge). The burgh is a popular location for trying to spot bottlenose dolphins (see Chanonry Point) in the Moray Firth.

Our B&B recommended this restaurant to us. This is absolutely the best meal I've ever had in Scotland.I will remember the fish dish that I had till the day that I die! I feel myself salivate now when I think of the generous onion rings we also ordered. I also picked off my dining partner's pork dish and it was heavenly. The ambience was warm and friendly and the restaurant faced the water. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy but we were attended to well throughout and never lacked for good service.

Spending a weekend at Nairn and a friend recommended eating here. Well worth a visit. An excellent menu full of local produce with something for everyone. Nice kids menu too. We had 3 starters, 4 mains, 3 desserts and coffee for under £90. The venison haunch was amazing as was the game casserole. The service was so friendly, and despite being quite buy, the staff had time to stop and chat with customers, making us feel really welcome and creating a lovely ambience. We'll definitely be back.

Rightio, I'm not one to complain and moan on this site at all. There were some really good things about the Plough and there were some really not good things. We'll start with the former;Ok, so we had a table booked for 7 o'clock, we got there just after 6pm we had a couple of drinks, sat outside in the beautiful beer Garden, loved the bar and general layout of the place, service was awesome, the beer was awesome. So far so good. However, as said we had booked a table in the morning for dinner at 7, we went through to the dining room, where the waitress just said to find somewhere and then went through everything they didn't have on the menu because they had been busy (No problem with that, places get busy) however, we sat at a table, which hadn't been wiped, even when our order was taken and she could see the table was filthy, it still wasn't cleaned. The food was lovely when it came, but then another wierd thing happened when we asked for another drink, we were told we had to pay for that in the bar seperate from the food, which we did, they had WiFi issues and the card payment took an age (I get things can be difficult due to the pubs remoteness)This place was frustrating because it does so many of the hard things right (good beer garden, friendly ambience, nice food, great bar service) and so many of the simple things horribly wrong, wiping tables, making sure that people can pay simply (trust me, people will spend more)

After a long 30-hour day of travel, and evening arrival, our B&B host recommended Star Inn. Simply superb! Wife had very substantial Veggie Tart Salad. Never had something so good and unique. I had macaroni bake. Great portion size, all homemade, glorious on a cool night. Located about 7 miles from Inverness airport. Get off beaten path and try this pub/restaurant. Reasonable prices, great service and food! Located in town of Ardersier.
