Reviewed By Amy PWe came to Serra do Cipó on a birdwatching trip. The owner was very helpful. Even though we spoke almost no Portuguese, we were able to communicate through the use of Google translate. He even gave us a 5 o'clock breakfast, very important for birders. The room was nice with comfortable beds and slow, but working WiFi. Only complaint (and the only reason the review is not 5 stars) is that the water in the shower was not hot. It was warmer than the cold water, but still cool. Otherwise a great time in a beautiful location.

Very sweet pousada in the heart of Serra do Cipó
Reviewed By Claudia NThis is a very sweet pousada in the heart of Serra do Cipó. Great location to go for hikes. I especially liked the litte amenities like the pool and the hammocks on the porch of every room. It was very kind that we were allowed to check out late (~5 p.m.), since the rooms were not needed for the following night.

Grreat hosts, comfortable, close to national park
Reviewed By BayareaRileyThis Pousada is a remodeled farm house artfully redecorated by Rubia; her husband Joaquin is full of information and genorosity. He let us us stash our gear after checking out, let us come back and not only change clothes but shower too. Then he gave us some juice and food before we went on our way. A very gnerous host indeed. Our room was a tad small, but had a balcony. Nice grounds, there is a pool, great breakfasts (as everywhere in Brazil). We were very close to the entrance to Serra de Cipo National Park; the 8 mile hike to La Forofa waterfall is great. We also drove about 2 hrs to hike to El Tabuleiro, a ver spectacular fall, third highest in Brazil. Take a guide for that if you go--very strenuous, probably a 800 foot down cimb to get there and then the same back up.

Nice bungalows, but can´t stand the noise in the night
Reviewed By bernie469I was there for 2 days and nights. I have to say at the beginning that I am frequently in Brasil and also often far away from cities. So I know a lot of pousadas, also simple ones. The environment at Santa Vila is nice, the chalets have nice interior, bed is good, even a kitchen, a well maintained pool. Breakfast is good with a nice view. BUT: It depends where your chalet is. I had the first one close to the street. Street was not a big problem, but 5m away from this chalet there is a henhouse with some cocks/roosters. In the first night, it started at 2:20 AM to crow. From then on, basically no sleep anymore because the windows are no soundproof. Forget it. I complained in the morning and asked for a change of chalet. This was refused (although I believe it was not fully booked). But the owner promised to talk to the neighbor with the henhouse. If he did, it did not help. The next night the same thing, it started at 01:50 AM. Again no sleep from this moment on even with earplugs. I cannot imagine that other guest who stayed in this chalet, did not complain. I may be sensitive on sound, but even in Brasilian terms this was too noisy. It was really painful to stay there in the night. Besides, there are construction works very close, but this starts at 07:00 am which is not the big problem. In the morning I wanted a refund of one night which was refused by the owners. I then complained at booking.com but they also got a negative reply. 300€ for 2 nights with almost no sleep is simply too much! In the end, it was not worth the money! Stay away if you only get the first chalet. Now I know why they have the advance pay policy with no cancellation
