Just over an hour's drive from San Jose International Costa Rica airport (SJO), eco-minded travelers from all over the world have reveled in the beauty of Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel, located within the Los Angeles Private Biological Nature Reserve & Research Station in the Canton of San Ramon. The hotel is ideally situated as a gateway to Arenal Volcano and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here, you're immersed in one of the world's most precious and complex jungle ecosystems - the cloud forest. This boutique mountain hotel is nestled on 75-acres of gentle rolling hills, with well-appointed "casitas" and Honeymoon Suites, each with their own fireplace, and surrounded by acres of lush botanical gardens. Originally owned by former president Rodrigo Carazo Odio and First Lady, Estrella Zeledon de Carazo, Villa Blanca has become a renown and cherished Costa Rica destination. The architecture reflects the original farm village concept, with a welcoming Hacienda, offering guests exceptional Costa Rican hospitality, premier dining, a private theater, conference facilities, and pampering spa menu. Also quite unique is a replica of a 14th century Roman wedding chapel, La Mariana, with its hand painted ceramic ceiling. Choose from a variety of nature-based activities, including horseback, zip-lines, and user-friendly guided trials, plus excursions to Arenal and Poas volcanoes, hot springs, and rural-cultural tours. This is the Costa Rica where those who "travel well and travel right" want to go. Please feel free to visit our sister-site, one of the most prestigious Manuel Antonio hotels, Si Como No.
Beautiful and peaceful. Quiet when we were there- not many other guests. Restaurant was very good- special thanks to Julio who took excellent care of us at every meal. Insect wildlife was incredible at the hotel in the AM- giant silkworm moths and rhinoceros beetles. Hummingbirds were prolific and a hit with the kids. We did not see much on the guided walk other than the hummingbirds. Location is remote so not easy to leave and explore other areas. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect. Cooler at night so we loved the quaint tiny fireplace.

A cozy, teak bed and breakfast in San Ramon, just minutes from the town center. Come and enjoy our home-grown organic coffee, herbal teas, fresh mountain air, healthy vegetarian fare and relaxing massage. The house was published in the March 2009 issue of Su Casa, with focus on sustainable architecture. We are former Habitat for Humanity employees from Costa Rica, Peru and the US and love to share the best that Latin America has to offer with our guests, including the food, music, poetry and the history. You can relax, read, write or connect to high-speed wireless internet out on the covered veranda. Also, we are always glad to help plan your trip, or offer suggestions. Just drop us a line.
What a perfect start to our time in Costa Rica! We got into San Jose, drove just under an hour to get to Casa Amanecer near San Ramon. Helena greeted us and made us feel at home. There are four rooms, each with their own bathroom, a lovely covered patio looking into the yard with avocado and banana trees, flowers and colorful birds. She gave us two rooms - one for our teens and one for us. She offered to prepare us some snacks but we’d just had dinner. We enjoyed time on the patio playing games that evening. In the morning we watched the sunrise in the rocking chairs on the patio. Then we had the BEST breakfast of our entire trip - fresh squeezed OJ, homemade guayaba jam with toast, Gallo pinto (the traditional beans and rice), eggs, fresh tropical fruit and fresh tomatoes and avocados, and even a choice of hot chocolate or coffee. Helena made us feel so welcome! We headed to La Fortuna the next day but I highly recommend it as a first or last day stop instead of staying in San Jose.

Los Parques is a clean and quiet Hostel with friendly owners. Comfortable beds, clean shared bathroom, big community kitchen and dining room. It's a very good place to stay if you're looking for something economical. Secure parking available if you ask before.
