L'Estagnol

Reviewed By spaqueen_9 - Charleston, South Carolina

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Arles because we thought the restaurant had a Mediterranean slant. We didn't find this to be true at lunch, but enjoyed our meal anyway. The outdoor Terrace setting was very pleasant. Although we are English speakers, we had no problems deciphering the menu. My husband had six oysters for a starter followed by the turbot for his main course. I went for the plat du jour of steak tartare and frites which I adore and this was delicious. Husband said his turbot was cooked perfectly. Service was relaxed, but we weren't in a hurry and enjoyed the setting.

This restaurant is amazing! Make a reservation - they are full every night.
My husband ordered the white fish - fixed menu - yum! He chose the mushroom soup - wow. I ordered the chicken which is the Cornish game hen - Oh My - excellent flavors. The mashed potatoes were also excellent!
Our best dinner in St. Rémy!
Our wait staff, Louisa, great - nice humor - superb customer service and explained everything in English. Always there when we needed her. Then Johan, the manager, came to the table several times - making sure everything is great - assisted us in making our dessert decision and then came over at the end to make sure everything was perfect!
Loved the experience!

Gus Restaurant

OWNER'S CHANGE In the center of Saint-Remy-de-Provence, "Chez Gus" becomes " Gus restaurant" with a menu enriched since the beginning of March. Shells, retail or in the form of seafood platters and the fish are always on the menu. But we find from now on some meat and varied accompaniments there. Not to mention of patisserie from the display. "Grenadian of veal with reduction of white wine and sage", "pig's filet mignon wipes honey and thyme, carrots and prunes roasted in the balsamic", "sole belle menuniere cut in front of the customer ", are a part of an elaborate menu. 31 Boulevard Victor hugo, the twins Anthony (in room) and Gregory (in cooking) attended by his wife Eliska, invite you in a merry gustative stroll.

Excellent little restaurant for a late lunch in the autumn. Sardines are good although leave aside the additional butter (not sure there is any need for this) but the sardines are really worth trying. The salmon main course was exceptionally worth trying and the sauce complimented the fish superbly well.

DIned here twice during our 5 nites in St Remy June 4-8. The lamb I had was literally the best meal of my life, with lamb served two ways, as a chop and in a pastry roll, which was amazingly good. Second meal was Carmague beef, cooked to perfection. We had just seen the free roaming bulls raised for this beef in the wild Carmague Rhone River delta area one or two days before. The staff was attentive and friendly, helping to make both evenings very special. We plan to come back to St Remy and will definately dine here again.

La Cuisine des Anges

On the ground floor of the family house La Cuisine des Anges is a nice restaurant with a tasteful, homemade and genuine "cuisine" .Once there, you can enjoy eating outside in the patio apart from the busy crowd of St Remy. Inside there is a lovely room with a fireplace where you can enjoy tasteful meals.

Really enjoyed our lunchtime meal on market day, we booked luckily as it became quite busy. Thoroughly enjoyed the lamb with dauphinois potatoes, with a pitcher of red wine, the peaches in honey were also delicious, service was good and the cost was fair.

We stopped by Le Roma a few times for an ice cream in the evening and then strolled around Saint-Remy. Our favourite flavours were coconut and caramel. As a bonus, our son, wearing a French jersey during the Euro Cup, got a free serve one evening. Thanks, Le Roma.

This restaurant has 1 Michelin star. You see that immediately back in the prices. Good menu with several courses. Correct but a bit stiff service, and a lovely Seating in the garden. The quality of the food is very good, nothing so say about this. Only the Deserts were disappointing. The abricot desert was just boring. 20 Euro's for a glass of champagne as apero feels a bit wrong. Also the wine list, very good, but too expensive. The bill, for 2 adults and 3 kids, was 652 euro's...with 1 bottle of wine, 2 glasses white and 2 galsses of champagne and a few soft drinks. This was clearly not good enough value for money. For half of the price you eat at a lot of places in St Remy, maybe a bit less sophisticated but with a much better price-quality balance.

Au bon burger BB

If you are in or around St Remy, and you've just gotta have a burger, this is your spot. We weren't necessarily craving burgers, but were hungry, tired and wanting something quick and easy, so we stopped in. I'll admit that I wasn't expecting much. To my surprise, this place could compete with many of the "gourmet" burger joints in the US, with several good options from a basic cheeseburger through a variety of more interesting choices.
Don't get me wrong. I love a good burger, but I almost felt guilty eating one in Provence. It only took a couple of bites to wash away the guilt. They also have a better-than-average beer selection.

Le Marilyn

Although not as stellar as other restaurants in Saint Remy, Marilyn is fine for a change of pace. The Decor features (who else?) Marilyn Monroe. I would say the food is not as memorable as other places for the same price, but is good (not great). Service was slow.
