Diskonto Schenke

Diskonto Schenke might not come across as the most romantic location, service is somewhat brutal (but quick and efficient) and I doubt the waitresses speak much English. But the food is the real deal and reasonably priced, the lively crowd doesn't mind sharing a toast and a smile, or asking you where you come from. Plus, you can try there all real local specialties, "wie bei Oma" (like at grandma's). Check out the month specials and the beer of the house.

Wirtshaus Zur Wilden Ente

Reviewed By travelpr0123

On warm summer afternoon the terrace and beer garden with its wooden tables and benches is a delightful place to sit, drink, eat and watch the passing cyclists, and the ducks and geese of the nearby slow-moving Saar river. The food is German fare with a regional Saarland touch. It is good, not great. Sauerbraten with gravy and 'Hoorische' (elongated potato dumplings), the Wiener Schnitzel (pork, not veal unfortunately), the Apfel Kuechel (deep fried, not pan fried, again: unfortunately) were all good, the Espresso with Eier Likoer is a gigantic concoction, and very filling, the Erdinger dark Weissbeer is to die for. Service has vastly improved over the years, which is good. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated, Bavarian style. Parking available. Recommended.

Cost: € 8 ppI set out to eat brunch on a sunny Saturday in Saarbrücken within walking distance from my hotel. Unfortunately, most places were closed and I ended up here due to limited choices. Am glad I did. The girls were very welcoming, despite their limited English. With an enjoyable challenge I was able to get their recommendation and ordered a dish specific to this state (Saarland). The ambience was that of a traditional cafe with basic wooden furniture and seating either on the warm cozy inside or the chilly liberating outside. I went with the former. The dish seemed to be a spongy potato dumpling with minced pork stuffing and a creamy outside sauce sprinkled with bacon bits. While very different to my normal palette, it was enjoyable. The serving size was more than I could handle too - must remember to downsize my orders next time. Would recommend a try.

The kitchen is not exceptionally good but it has many positive points: a regional card that changes regularly, seasonal recepes, good wine card, good service, correct prices. This is restaurant where you will always find something interesting and definately something to recommend. Summer is best time to be here with a table on the terrace.

So we had reservations for eight but got everything done early so we called to see if we could come in early, wasn’t a problem. We enter a little after six, we were greeted by Tim great host and RestaurantLeiter! Got our seats and explored the menu... would normally ask what the waiter would suggest but I read that Karl their cook has his own menu so i settled for „Karl’s menu“ i am happy with my choice. But there are a couple things I will bring up that are negatives only book but won’t stop Me from coming back. The waitresses are a bit lazy i say this because after my gf reminded her she’d like her wine with dinner she also had to remind her again during and then again she had to ask one of the waiters. That’s total negative points on service. But the homemade mango ice tea that I had was amazing. My other negative point only goes to me NY cheesecake which had a bit of a freezer burn or refrigerator taste to it, it wasn’t horrible and it took me a minute to figure it out but I’m a fat kid i finished my cheesecake. The duck and Tonkabohne crème brûlée were on point but i think my pork belly was the best part of the entire meal. It’s got a crispy crunch and the meat just melts in your mouth. I’m looking forward to the next visit because I’m pretty sure I’ll get in again except with a different desert. Oh I can’t forget my egg raviolis topped with truffles homerun! Hopefully my next visit will be 5 stars! Also the food Presentation was amazing I’m sorry I didn’t take pictures my girlfriend did there but they aren’t importing from my phone to this app! I’m sorry!

The food was OK-ish, nothing to complain but nothing to make me scream "wow". We were a little bit upset that we had to wait too much for our food and we ordered simple things. But, if there is anything that would make me go there again, that is the Apfelstrudel! Is really big, served with ice cream and it tastes great! :)

This was are first stop for German food here in Saarbrucken. We have been to many places in past travels in Germany. We have family who live in Mannheim. I was really looking forward to it. The homemade German beer we tried the light as well as the Dunkel. We each preferred the Dunkel. The service and waitresses were very good. They had menus In English. I was over whelmed with the portion sizes of our entrees. My husbands looked enormous. But once he cut thru the fat and bone on his pork dish there really wasn't much. The Beer broth was good as was the dumplings and cabbage Cole slaw. He gave me a bite. I have to say it was very chewy and I was expecting a very tender falling apart piece of pork. So I think we both were let down. My dish was Much better. A breaded pork tenderloin with cheese in the middle. With potatoes. I was so full I didn't even eat 1/2 of mine. So my Husband was happy to share mine. They gave us a small basket of bread but we didn't eat any. The atmosphere was nice. Everything looked very clean. We would come back but not order the pork -bone in. It was not very good, At least to us. Service was good and this was in walking distance to our hotel "Mercure Hotel". Homemade beer was very good. We did not use bathrooms on this visit.

The food is traditional saarland style. The Dibbelabbes is a must try although it is quite expensive considering the ingredients are just some basic stuff plus flour...Good spot for junk food if you love fried food...Ambience is nice and service is good. Overall perhaps better for a drink than a full on dinner. Better to go in summer where it is nicer to sit outside.

We followed the recommendations and it was a good experience. Fast and Personal self-serving Service. Sitting outside very closed to the main court. The dishes were tasty. Fries a special flavour. The mayonaise and the ketchup beside were kalinski-style we had only there. The salad was ok. But the sourrounding and the options afterwards were closed to. So we could recommend too.
