Rincon Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Rincon

February 25, 2018 Roger Rusk

Rincon is best known for two things—surfing and sunsets. Beaches are small (meaning no huge resort beaches) and no matter how much of a Type-A personality you are, Rincon’s laid-back attitude and leisurely pace will soon win you over.

The English Rose Restaurant

We have previously visited the English Rose and have no qualms about its orderly business administration (ie., a rather rigorous and usually punctual Reservations system, a relatively diligent service) , its beautiful top of the hill location, its priviledged view from the balcony tables, the steep but intriguing rural road access and an efficient parking allocation in an otherwise limited space. In short, this mainly breakfast/ brunch restaurant offers sufficiently interesting qualities to fulfill a visit with a satisfying, uncommon experience. But, of course, we also go there for its food, right? And it is precisely here where we notice some diminishing elements given its rather elevated menu prices. This time we were surprised about the somewhat unsophisticated aesthetics of dish presentations: mushy greens bed over a significantly burned croissant with meat arranged in a tasteless, unrefined mountain covered by a carelessly placed egg crowned with a thick, uninviting sauce. Perhaps you can argue that their fare is inclined towards a "country", deep south style interpretation of British or international breakfast dishes. Regardless, it appears that the current cook/chef is in dire need of training or supervision with regards to making a dish elegantly attractive and using only the most fresh and crisp embellishment ingredients. Therefore, we suggest owners to take the uncompromising road of excellence in the care of details that could make a difference between running a restaurant for road truckers or gourmet oriented customers.

That area just got the electricity back after the hurricane. Average Caribbean food restaurant with big parking area. I like the privacy of the area as it is not close to other buildings. I have tried the mojitos and they are nice. Also the mofongo is good. The beach is just about 300 feet from the place.

The Cofresi is unique and worth a visit for sure. It has a huge open air, covered Terrace with lots of rattan lounge chairs, a few pool tables, and a horseshoe shaped bar right above a great swimming beach. Great free WiFi, and friendly staff, and clean bathrooms. The bar food is mediocre at best, but the restaurant is a solid "B" and sometimes even a "B plus" when the fish is fresh. On a nice day, try sitting out on the Terrace, overlooking the Atlantic, with Desecheo island in the distance. This, the sunset, and a couple of Rum drinks is definitely not too bad! Oh, and they host karioke at least once a week, which is usually awful, but authentic. Have fun!

Almost six months after Hurricane Maria, I am somewhat happy to say that they still serve the same menu, with somewhat faster service than in 2015 (my last review). The seared tuna is still good. The crab wantons are still bad (unless you like cream cheese overpowering the crab). They ALWAYS run out of decent wine, so if you drink beer, maybe not a problem. Oh, and bring lots of cash, because they cannot take credit cards or ATMs. When sent to an nearby ATM, they were closed, so please come prepared. No photos, since nothing much has changed since 2015, except you can see more nearby dwellings due to lack of folliage caused by the hurricane.

Don't be scared off by the location (on a busy road). The parking attendant was helpful, service was friendly, and the food was delicious. The whole fried snapper with coconut curry (a special) was my favorite meal of the trip, and my husband loved his seafood paella. Definitely worth a visit.

This has been a featured Rincon restaurant for the past several years -- and now it has reopened post-hurricane. In some ways it's better than ever and certainly offers a meaningful up-scale dining experience. It has some unique menu items and the service is appropriately attentive, without imposing diners. They offer a nice but expensive wine list. One slight detraction -- only two beers available. They seem to always provide high quality ingredients. Great to seem them back in business...but be advised, you pay for the quality and ambiance.

La Copa Llena at The Black Eagle

The management team of Casa Islena Restaurant (also known as The Tapas Bar) has proudly taken over the the historic Black Eagle Restaurant, rechristening it "La Copa Llena". Located right on the ocean, specifically the south side of the Tres Palmas Marine Preserve, people have been enjoying the sunsets from the Black Eagle deck since the 1970's. The combination of Chef Brendan Basham's cuisine, Casa Islena's charm, and the view of the waves, whales, and sunsets, provides a singular Rincon dining experience. With the adoption of a larger space, Brendan has been able to expand the menu and experiment more while maintaining the strict standards of quality that the local community and returning tourists have come to expect for the last 6 years. We have included some of our old favorites such as the char-grilled octopus with heirloom beans and papaya salad, and introduced some incredible new dishes like poke (yellowfin tuna, avocado, and seaweed), coconut steamed mussels with homemade chorizo and fresh herbs, and a 20 oz. T-bone steak with flageolet-corn succotash and a yukon-parsnip mash. As always, the menu tends to change upon the availability of ingredients, keeping the chef creative and our guests surprised. Brunch is served Sundays from 10am-2pm with diverse offerings such as brown butter crepes and southwest style chilaquiles (eggs scrambled with fried corn tortillas and green chile-tomatillo salsa). Happy hour everyday from 3pm until 7pm includes $2 Medallas, $3 well drinks, and $4 house wine. And we're excited to continue the legacy of the ever entertaining Wednesday night Bingo starting around 9pm. Sunset live music Sundays from 4pm-7pm.Buen Provecho!

Nice to see this place back after the hurricane. We always try to get at least one dinner here during our annual visit. Once again we were pleased with both the ingredients, preparation and especially the service associated with our meal. I'd certainly give the place an excellent rating except for one issue -- their alcohol prices are excessive. My advice is to have your drink first and stick to the food items.

What we love about this place (beyond the super fun and casual vibe of the Green Parrot) is that the pizza and the ingredients are fresh. Everything tastes like they made it just for you. That said, I will forever miss the bar that used to be there and the friendly bartender who once sent us on a wild goose chase looking for a waterfall that we eventually found. Like I said there is something magical about the green parrot, the bar and whoever inhabits it. If you like magic then this place is for you.

Highly recommend Dulcis Vita for lunch when you're in Rincon.
