The route between Ahrweiler and Dernau is so beautiful. The road, footpath and rail line all run parallel to each other as they wind through this fantastic valley. A natural broad leaf forest lines the valley walls on one side, and vines cover the other. And perfectly located along the way is Weinhaus Kriechel! As you settle into their quaint outdoor area and tuck into a glass of their own wine, you can't help but think "I could sit here forever"!But it's not just the scenery that makes this place special. The food is local, interesting, tasty, and good value. And a rarity in Germany, the service is genuinely friendly and attentive :-)

We were here this summer. Really nice bread and pastries. The coffee was also really nice. Service was counter service and they were patient while we were making our choices. NIce experience overall for us.

It was lunch time and the Carpe Diem looked so inviting with its seating on the road side by the river. We ordered, what we thought was a Sausage and potato salad, which turned out to be a sausage, potato, with some sort of pickled sauce on. I manfully ate the sausage but the pickled potato was just too much. Lovely place, friendly staff, would return but not for the sausage, I must add though it was the highlight of my OH day.
