Waldhotel Sonnora Restaurant

Situated in a quiet location close to a small village.Decoration and ambiance are "classical/vintage".Welcome and staff are perfect. They take real care of their clients without being invasive. Trust the sommelier who introduces you to unknown treasures of German wine producers.Delicious food and surprising wine list are perfect. The signature dish I like best is kind of "tarte" as appetizer "Torte von rohem Rindstartar auf Rösti mit Sauerrahm und Kaviar" (potatoe-rösti with minced raw beef & sourcream topped with caviar). Soooo good and you won't forget the taste of this delicious dish...Price&quality ratio is okay. The restaurant belongs to the Waldhotel Sonnora... a good idea would be to book a room and stay for the delicious breakfast!

Restaurant Schanz

Thomas Schanz has held two stars in his family run restaurant since the end of 2015. The two stars are well deserved, and food is top notch. Were it only for the food, I'd give five stars. The tourelle de foie gras, the Atlantic hake, the red label pigeon breast, the lamb from Wales, all were full of flavours and the ingredients of excellent quality. My daughter had an a la carte starter of frog legs which she also liked a lot. My wife and I ordered a cheese course instead of the menu dessert - this was good but not outstanding, and I have had better brie de meaux, crottin and livarot before.Service and the choice of menu and/or a la carte dishes was not flawless. The restaurant called me 4 days before the lunch date and asked whether we (a party of 6) would opt for a la carte or the menu. I called the restaurant the night before the lunch and indicated that we would select a la carte. I was put through to Mr. Schanz personally who indicated that we would have to choose from within the menu, except for our daughter who could choose a la carte. We did not quite grasp why this limitation was imposed, as we would have liked to sample the langoustine starter and turbot main course, both of which were not on the menu; perhaps it was because of Easter Monday, Monday being a day on which the restaurant is normally closed. Service itself was very friendly, but one waiter oddly failed to fill up the water and wine glasses of my wife and my mother, and failed to do so throughout the lunch. My wife found this very odd and in the end almost offensive. The red wine we ordered from the same waiter for the cheese course basically was served after the cheese course, after we reminded another waiter. When my daughter asked the waiter whether ice cream was available fore dessert, he simply said 'yes' and disappeared. The ice cream was later ordered from another waitress. The wine list is strong on German wines, and we had two excellent and fairly priced bottles from the Mosel region...

Kartoffel Restaurant Kiste

This potato centric restaurant has a nice outdoor patio on a busy square. The menu is not exclusively potatos but they are availible in many ways, some of which are unique! Our group of 6 were very happy with the meals we chose. The service was good and our waitress even asked the chef for the recipe for one of the potato dishes for us!Recommended.
