Landsknecht is my favorite Rhine hotel by far, partially for the nice restaurant. For lunch or a more causal dinner, dine on their Rheinterasse, one of the very few restaurants in the Rhine Gorge area that is directly (!) on the Rhine, with no road or railroad between you and the marvelous, busy river. Enjoy the view of castle and vineyards while you enjoy the food and wine. Wines from the family vineyard are also quite good. Inside dining is also available in either a new, modern dining room with great views of the river or in a more traditional room. During my last visit I enjoyed 2 of their special menus, one more of a gourmet menu and the other offering traditional cuisine of the region. Both were delicious and well-presented, with staff that were adequately attentive but not over-bearing. I've tried many other restaurants between Boppard and Rudesheim and both sides of the Rhine, but the one I return to most often is Landsknecht for the combo of good food, good view and easy adjacent parking too. It's a short distance outside of St. Goar and thus not in the heavy tourist area. The hotel is very good as well.

Service is slow to poor. Clearly understaffed. Food very reasonably priced but nothing special. Formal but hardly fine dining. Altes Stadttor used to be a great restaurant, with very nice local food in a brilliant environment. Unfortunately, my recent experience is that they have tried to make the place more upscale and failed.The food in Altes Stadttor is still very nice without anything wrong: Salad plates are generous and even childrens' portions are carefully prepared. I like to see that a restaurant respects their young customers as much as their parents.In my opinion removing famous German dishes from the menu was a mistake and a big disappointment. If I want upscale dining, I can't see myself going to Altes Stadttor. Because of this the place which used to be "Very Good" gets now only "Average" rating.

We loved the flowers, the cold drinks, the views and the excellent service which is not a given in this touristy town. The Argentinian steak in this restaurant is absolutely first rate. The best I can remember eating (and I have been around a bit). A huge steak with fried mushrooms and onions on top.A small intimate little restaurant on a back street corner: but just great food.Dine inside or outside.

My husband and I weren't super hungry when we came across this restaurant, but we decided to share a meal and have a beer and wine. We shared the kohlrabi and potato dish and oh my! I've never had cooked cooked kohlrabi, but it was fantastic. I was told from another couple (locals I believe) that the food was all sourced locally. The portions from other guests looked huge, so we too the cue and shared a meal. It was more than enough. There is seating indoors and outdoors. The outdoor view is on the Rhine and lovely.

We had dinner; wiener schnitzel veal for me and instead of fries I had a beautiful large salad. My husband had the special tender beef cheaks with rosemary potatoes. He could not believe how tender the beef was, using only his fork! Wonderful service, wine, beer and meal. Highly recommend!

Before heading back to the states we decided to go to this hidden gem weâve heard so much about from relatives. Long story short - food was spectacular, everything from the salad to the veal ragu to the off-menu schnitzel the charismatic owner prepared for us. Ambience was terrific, old vintage wood in a timeless mill, friendly restaurant patrons, cozy setting, and a very accommodating wait staff. Highly recommend to anyone traveling near the Boppard/Koblenz area. If the owner is reading this....please open a restaurant in Boston!

We struggled a few times to get a seat at this popular restaurant, but finally slotted in on Tuesday night, though we shared a table German style with a Scottish couple. We both had the pumpkin soup, and then she had Spare ribs and I had Cordon Blue. Good and service excellent.Wir können uns gut an sie erinnern - vielen Dank für Ihren Besuch!! Sat down here at 8pm on a Saturday evening. It was quite busy. It was difficult to get attention, you had to chase a waitress rather than them coming to you.Ordered drinks, starter and main course. Drinks came fairly quickly. Starter arrived at 8.30pm. Then we sat until 9.30pm with no food. We were sat next to a group of 4. The 1st diner had finished his meal before the 4th diner had got their food. At 9.30 I asked where the food was and I was told 'We only have a small kitchen'. I don't class myself as a business genius but the obvious answer is have less tables. Waitresses seem to be coming out with just one plate at a time.At 9.40 after waiting 1 hour 10 minutes for my meal, I paid for my drinks and left.Wild horses wouldn't drag me back there.
