Ho Ho Food Station

Reviewed By Charles C - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

In my past visits here, I had tried mostly their Western cuisine. This time, I tried some of the local cuisines, and find some inconsistencies which warranted mixed reviews.
Shanghai char koay teow - looks pretty much like the "kongfu chow", but looks can be quite deceiving, as it is quite fragrant and tasty. However, I found myself thirsting for water after the meal - too much MSG, I guess.
Seafood char koay teow - small portion, unappetizingly oily and the only seafood is 2 pieces of crab sticks! Come on, you can do better than that! About the same price as the Shanghai CKT, so go for the former if you have a choice.
Indian mee - okay portion, average taste... can be better.
Overall, if you have a choice, go for their signature chicken chop offerings. The salted egg chicken chop is good. So is the wasabi chicken chop. Skip the red wine chicken chop, though - can hardly taste the red wine there. Portions can be quite inconsistent, though - one time, it was quite small. Another time, huge. Recently, average. They really need to standardize the portion...
Service is normally good, although there was this recent time when I stood at least a good 3 minutes at the cashier counter, waiting to pay, while the lady was busy preparing some other food items at the counter-top nearby, totally ignoring the cashier counter...
Overall, still a decent place to grab a bite.

Looking for home style cooking and if you are near by Rawang: this place is certainly worth a visit. Delicious honest cooking. We had the freshest steam fish, Cantonese noodles and fried rice. I heard that their Chinese pumpkin soup is great as well but they had ran out of the dish when we arrived. The price is very reasonable.
This restaurant is worth a thumbs up.

Cafe Dim Dim Sum Yi

Reviewed By Charles C - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This is one of the few dimsum places which display the pictures of their dishes on one whole wall of the shop... and label them in English and Chinese - and not just in Chinese - which makes it easy for people to read what is available. Very helpful to me, as I can't read Chinese.
The clean environment gives the place a pleasant dining experience. Service is quite slow, though, as they do not practise the push-cart system (where the dimsum are pushed out on a trolley for one to choose). Here, they give you a menu, and once you have made your choices, they will then start cooking/heating the food.
The dimsum are worth the wait, though. The braised chicken feet, Shanghai dumplings, siu mai king, "wu kok" (yam puff) and the rest of the dimsum are all delectable. They have rice dishes as well, although I didn't try those, as we were here for the dimsum.
Overall, it is a nice place to get good dimsum, and certainly worth the wait.
Note: They open from 7am - 10pm daily.

Restoran Tokyo Food

Reviewed By Charles C - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This restaurant is located directly behind the well-known Yau Kee Restaurant, and is nestled right smack in the middle of a housing area. It has a cozy atmosphere inside, and can easily cater up to at least 50 tables for functions.
Had lunch here with friends. Ordered the stir-fried vege, pineapple pork and a steamed fish. The vege was quite "old", while the pineapple pork lacks the oomph. The saving grace was the steamed fish.
Service was good, though, as we came early, and there was only one other table being occupied.
Overall, our recent dinner at Yau Kee (the restaurant directly behind) was much better - every dish there was well-cooked and tasty.

Rawang Peng Nam

Reviewed By Hmahendran - Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

This is literally to 'go to' restaurant for all the older residents of Rawang and its environs as many have been frequenting this restaurant since they were young.
Warning, if you don't come early, you will have to wait. Once seated, you will still have to wait as they take the time to cook each dish and will not be rushed.
Food is consistently good although everything tastes better if you're hungry after a long wait

828 Rodney Wong Curry Leaf Crab Restaurant

Reviewed By D_Jekyll - Malaysia

Happened to stumble across an online blog about this place and decided to brave through the traffic and distance to give it a try. The restaurant facade is typical of regular chinese restaurants. They had a permanent tent setup in front of the restaurant to increase the Seating capacity. The owner very very friendly and chatty.
We ordered:
1. Signature curry leaf crabs - wasn't anything to shout about
2. Baked crabs - crab meat was rather empty
3. Salt fried flower crabs - overly done with the thick batter around the crabs
4. Hokkien fried yee mee - had better ones elsewhere
5. Deep fried pig intestines - turned out ok and had a nice fluffy bite to it
6. Claypot curry prawns - prawns were really fresh but the curry mildly lacked in flavour
7. Steamed frogs - the dish we liked the most. Can't really screw this one up actually
For the distance and inconvenience, there really isn't a reason for us to return for a second try especially with such mediocre cooking.

This quaint restaurant offers simple but delicious Chinese dishes suitable for a nice change of pace. This place is known only to the locals and the proprietor will often tell you what's fresh for the day.
The pork and seafood dishes are definitely worth a try.

Restoran Lan Je

Reviewed By Billy Z - Singapore, Singapore

Lan Je is well known for its steamed Tilapia, hence it is not surprising that the dish is found on every table. In fact most people order an entire fish to themselve when we visited during lunch, though it is of a good size for 2 to share if you order other side dishes as well.
The fish is steamed in soy sauce garnished with ginger, garlic, spring onion and red chili pepper. The fish was very fresh and well steamed to a soft and smooth texture. We also tried the minced chicken steamed with tofu which was rather ordinary.
Was told the restaurant started in Rawang almost 40 years and has since open many more outlets in and around KL. It is located away from the heart of Rawang with ample parking space around, would return for more tilapia if passing through Rawang again!

There chef is really Japanese. The dishes are authentic and comparable to some upscale outlets in KL but the price is kept affordable for most. There are premium items available but you know what you will be paying for.
The place is new and opened a few months ago. I hope this place gets due recognition as the ingredients are fresh and food is good. The menus are good as there is a clear description of the items.
Highly recommend this place.

Only sell " Ipoh style beansprouts chicken rice" . Beansprouts specially from Ipoh, can't get it anyplace in town. Food is nice , environment is busy, service is fast but no so polite as your expect at High class restaurant.
