Our ambition: to offer customers innovative cuisine that keeps firm foundation with the surrounding area through the use of raw materials of high quality .
We looked for a restaurant for lunch when we made a trip to visit Sabbioneta and were impressed with the reviews on TripAdvisor for La Mandragola.
It was a little out of our way but we found the restaurant easily on the outskirts of Guastalla and it was easy to park. The setting was charming with a garden in front and, as we parked, we noticed the quite extensive kitchen garden at the back of the restaurant.
The dining room was spacious and well set out and we were welcomed by a charming waitress who took great good care of us. Unfortunately we were the only guests for lunch which can be a depressing experience but the hospitality and service were excellent.
We were offered the usual major menu and a businessman's lunch menu (should that be a business person's lunch?). We chose from the businessman's menu - an excellent pasta dish and delicious roast quail.

The trattoria is proudly run by the owners, thus giving it a personal and familiar atmosphere. The place is full of pictures of the classical films of Don Camillo, and even the glasses are identical to the ones used by the actor Fernandelle when he had to drink L'Olio di Ricino . . . thankfully, instead we enjoyed Lambrusco. The service is excellent, they give you the choice to savour the regional cuisine without overdoing it! As for recommendations I would leave it in their able hands. Should I ever pass by to Brescello again, La Bottega will be definately the highlight of my visit. Not only the food is good, 'da lecare le ditta', but you are welcomed and well looked after! After all La Bottega is family.

unbelievably tasty food. One of the best restaurants in Emilia Romagna although it is located outside a small village in a very rural area. Cosy and warm place, authentically designed like a mountain hut, amazing hospitality by a unique family of very talented people who master the art of hosting and cooking. We felt at home and didn't want to leave. everything we ordered, from appetizers to Deserts, was nothing less than perfect. Don't miss the hot wine in the end. kids friendly.

Armando makes what is easily the best frozen yogurt in town, creamy enough to almost seem a frozen Greek yogurt. His fruit juices and smoothies are fresh and fantastically tasty, my wife and I particularly love the "citrico" (a tropical blend heavy on the passion fruit) on hot days.

A local and extremely high quality experience, like being at home. Staff very helpful, price on the low side and excellent food!

This was by far our best value for the food and experience in 3 weeks in Europe! If you happen to be in the Mountains of the southern Reggio Emilia, do not miss the opportunity to eat at La Montanara! We paid 18 Euros per person for a lunch that included antipasto, 2 courses, wine, dessert, Moscato and of course coffee. The risotto was fantastic (call ahead so they have enough time to prepare it). This meal was with a group of 9 so value may have been a result of dividing all food/drinks among the group, but other reviews here support the value/price we experienced, and our local host said it’s always good food for a great price even when he’s there on his own. Depending on the day/season, Reservations are required to secure a table (especially Sundays). “La Montanara” is a common restaurant name, and technically this one is in the small village of Miscoso (Ramiseto is the specific area I think). I hope you find it -- it was a wonderful, traditional Italian meal.

In the middle of nowhere in the Emiglia-Romana region, close to the city of Canossa, lies the little Ca' Matile, a Michelin recommended (I think, one star) restaurant with a couple of nicely decorated rooms in their guest house. The patron is a very warm and heartily person who makes sure that every guest leaves her restaurant fully satisfied. We had a six course-seafood degustation menu (60 EUR) with a delicous variety of accompanying wines (25 EUR). The dishes were creative and perfectly prepared. The service was attentive and very friendly, although their command of English was not perfect. If you're on your walk to Canossa, make sure you stop by there. ;-)
