We recently spent 10 days in Ireland and I had the opportunity to experience seafood chowder at many locations including Dromoland Castle, Ashford Castle and at various restaurants and pubs; so the competition in comparison was high. The Tavern had the perfect blend of a great base and plenty of stock in the chowder. The taste was rich and it appeared as if I never ran out of fresh seafood in the bowl. Kudos to the chef! I'll come back here on my next trip to Ireland.Dear John W.What praise!!!! and to be mentioned within a very impressive list. Our chef is singing your comments from the roof top. Thank you so much for the lovely review. Hope it won't be too long before we offer you another tasting.....Kind RegardsRuth

The Derrylahan Bar & Bistro

After reading hungryhorse's review compared with everyones else's, I decided to check out this restaurant on Monday 6th May at around 2pm. We were a party if 6, mainly French, and all enjoyed our meals. The food was properly cooked and was served in reasonable time, allowing us to enjoy our glasses of Guinness. Shona, Morgan, Charlene, Laura and Megan were pleasant, friendly and proficient and we felt welcome. So, the food was good, the staff were friendly and the Guinness, a new experience for most, very acceptable. What about ambience? Well if you like to eat in a dance hall, fine, but seriously this needs to be addressed. Our table was covered in a wrinkled paper cover that had been cut with grandma's spare dentures. It was not very professional. Can do better.Don't let the origami table dressing put you off, you will enjoy your meal.

The Country Kitchen is one of Louisburgh's jewels, (along with Books@One and Solas Crafts). All on Main Street near the bridge. Amy and John provide fabulous food in a very friendly and intimate setting. We always take our visitors here for a "meal out", and we've never been disappointed. Affordable fine dining with the freshest local produce. Can't recommend it highly enough. And you bring your own wine or beer, no corkage fee. Be warned, it's cash only, no cards.
