We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and they decorated our room with towel swans (with rose petals) and chocolate covered strawberries. The included breakfast is fantastic and the hotel's restaurants have great food and service. We will absolutely stay here again next time we visit Costa Rica.

Checking in was a breeze and we were greeted with hot towels and cocktails- then we were guided to our rooms which was the Orchid Room- it was super spacious, LOVELY rainforest view, and NICE shower/bathroom! I was able to see my friends Rainforest Room, which was also great with a tub for two and a porch with bed. The service was fantastic, restaurant food was really good- the pumpkin soup was the best!! Breakfast buffet was great and the hot springs I highly recommend. NO complaints about this stay and really looking forward to being back! Also, pretty close to everything too!

Reviewed By brookewindigThe view from the room and balcony was spectacular. It was the best view of the volcano we saw anywhere in the area. The grounds were beautiful and really made you feel tucked away in the rainforest. We saw toucans in the trees on our walk from breakfast. Nature trails were also wonderful. Breakfast was delicious. The only negative was that the large doors opening to the balcony did not have screens, and we were advised not to keep them open while we slept because of all the wildlife, so there was no way to sleep hearing all the nature sounds and feeling fresh air. The outdoor temperature at night was perfect and the sounds of the rainforest were amazing, so we would have greatly preferred fresh air to the air conditioning, but we did not have the option due to lack of screens.

Reviewed By Ken EThis room was a dump. It is very large with a dining and living room area. The cleaning was quite subpar. I moved a basket of well-used towels from the bathroom sink counter and had to wipe a filthy surface with someone's hair. The room is not well-maintained nor clean. The shower only dripped water out when the hot water was turned on. The entire room/bedding smelled of unwashed mildewed linens. From the moment we entered the room it smelled musty. Room 5 was pricey and quite large, between 800-1000 square feet. It is encased almost entirely in windows, adding to its draftiness. Since we are above 7000 ft in elevation, it is cold with nighttime temperatures in the 50's. We have 1 anemic space heater which is completely ineffective at warming the room (sized for a much smaller area of 100-200 square feet). Our room temperature was 65 degrees at 7pm. Extra blankets were provided but one can only huddle beneath the covers. We are very disappointed with the room and would not return. We have no idea whether we have a view as it has been foggy and overcast the entire time. The lighting is quite odd and many light switches don't work. There is no functioning shower light so we bathed before sundown. There are two side lamps-one didn't work. The fireplace is boarded so obviously hasn't been available to heat the room for quite a few years.

Reviewed By jenniferpL6055YF.I was at the resort for the weekend, its living nature fills you with energy, an amazing natural environment. mix of the tropical forest with its hot springs at the spa Sharlyn was super attentive to our needs and took us away to make the gifts of the mountain since her name fascinated me and the masseurs Pía and Sharlyn transmit serenity The Combination of aromas during the massage were Spectacular, in fact, they dedicated themselves to pampering us and giving us a little piece of them. I recommend them and I will definitely return.

Activities in the area: canopy, canyoning/rappelling, horse back riding, trails and rafting.

Whether visiting the animals, rafting, zipline, horseback riding, hiking or canyoning, there was something for everyone. The activities were unforgettable. The view at the zipline was breathtaking, as was the river at the rafting or the canyons. You should definitely try it out. In the restaurant there were dishes from different nationalities like costa rican, mexican or israeli, but also simple italian. We tried a lot of things and no matter which nationality we chose, breakfast, lunch or dinner, it was always very tasty. The shelters were designed with so much love and the income goes to the animals. It is a win win situation from my point of view. You are committed to animal welfare and have an unforgettable time with super friendly staff.

We went on new years Eve and we wanted to skip the dinner package. However we ordered something around 7ish p.m. the pizza promo. The person in charge was very rude to my gf and shut down the phone without asking anything other than the room number for billing porpuses. I know the feeling of pressure but I don't think it will justify being rude to a customer. We end up calling uberEats and spend less than the hotel restaurant price. To summarize our experience. The place is kinda nice. Most of the employees are decent but if we ever go again. I will either order UberEats or just bring my own food.

If you need internet and wi-fi 24/7 because you just cannot let it go or you have to keep a communication line with work, then this is not the place for you. Yes, the internet is pretty much non-existent in the rooms but for me it was such a detox moment to be able to have 2 days and nights without constantly looking at that darn screen. Mind you, I would check when I was by the pool or the main area/restaurant but it was good enough for me. Pluses: the silence, the massage wow!, the pool, the room, loved the soaps and shampoos they have there. And while due to Covid right now they have some rooms closed off, and there's less staff, it didn't bother me at all. The restaurant is also more limited right now again due to Covid, but we tried every option of main entrees and desserts and none disappointed. Negatives: the glass door to the shower needs serious maintenance (it kept getting stuck). My room was Aphrodite! Loved it really and only had. that issue. All the other rooms seem just as lovely. If you are traveling from out of town/country, its a short 15 min ride to Alajuela downtown. Plenty of everything there...restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, etc etc etc.

8 Night Stay in a Beautiful Place
Reviewed By Explorer648504Costa Rica is of course an incredible country, with the vast diversity of the flora and fauna. The lovely, smiling people with refreshing and easygoing personas really made my family's stay top tier, however. The owner of Lavas del Arenal, Miguel, and his staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable, delicious, and encompassing of the essence of Pura Vida. After each day of tours/exploring, there was always an adorable towel and flower creation, and the staff provided anything we asked for. One thing to note is that the hotel is about a 10 minutes' drive away from downtown La Fortuna, but it is very easy to get a ride from the hotel.
