Great customer service

Rating is more for customer service as they responded to my feedback email within 24 hours. Did not get to stay here as found out at check in that they are not pet friendly as of 1st January. So a warning since they still come up when searching for pet friendly hotels in Port Hardy. All I can say is the lobby looked nice and clean, they have a gift shop and parking on site.

Awful is all I can say

This property enjoys an enviable location, but ther level of service / room quality/ decor / carpets is failing.I concur with other correspondents re room key issues - just not acceptable, and when we were without power for the day it was 'all stairs'.The best condition carpets though are on the starwell - in other ares carpets are stained / worn / dirty. The room was failing in a number of areas - (all reprted but no action taken) there were no bedside lights working - only three of the six bathroom light bulbs were working - but still enough to se the grubby hand marks on thr inside of the door. On arriva we were told that there was to be a power out the next day - that their restaurant was under new management - as, as yet not open - no idea when this may happen. I found the receptionist at the Glen Lyon property next door far more helpful and customer friendly!Breakfast was an 'in the bag' provision. We are not sure how they could have maintained the food level temerpatures during the power cut but 'chilled' food was still offered the followng day.- but not much else (as pictures) One has to wonder why an operator with such an excellent location does not deliver evene the most basic of service and standards. The property presents itself as a 3* offering - they are joking !!! - hardly breaks into 2* territroy. I suggest that you avoid if you can - has to be one of the worst places I have evere stayed

North Coast Trail Backpacker's Hostel

Our hostel is in downtown Port Hardy just steps from the beach. We have wonderful ocean views, a great lounge room with table tennis, and shuffleboard. We have both dorm beds, private rooms and family rooms available. Our staff is friendly and knowledgeable whether it is where to eat, which trail to hike or where the local eagles nest is we are happy to help.

Friendly welcome went above and beyond for their sick guest!

I would highly recommend this hostel. I stayed for one night in 2015 and it's bad manners I'm only getting round to writing this now! Anne and Rob have been doing this for years and they seem to be one of the most popular stops for pre- and post- ferry travelers. I came in on the ferry late at night with a stinking cold, sneezing and shivering. I had booked a bed in a 6 bed dorm but Anne bumped me into a private at no cost (I think partly worried about me infecting all her guests - which I heartily appreciate!). She also opened up their attached cafe (which was locked up for the evening) to find me some camomile tea. She was extremely solicitous and kind, very worried about me. Traveling solo as I was, it meant a lot, and a night in a cosy, clean bed made a lot of difference! Thank you so much for your kindness - never forgotten!

A solid budget hotel

I came in late last night on the ferry from Prince Rupert. It was raining and i got lost ... i will blame Google as it was actually easy to find and close to the centre of town, a couple of km. The fellow who checked me in was really pleasant and helpful, especially given the time it was almost 1:00pm The room was decent, it is a budget motel, but it was clean, quiet and I slept well. It perfectly met my needs for the night. Thank you

What a dump

What can you get for an all in cost of C$140? Not a hell of a lot at North Shore Inn, Port Hardy. The only positive thing that could be said about the place is that the location is good. Negatives:dirty, run down, old style TV, paper thin walls, toilet that did not work properly, dirty carpet in room and in hallways. No staff available at night so if there were an emergency, even a small one, things could go out of hand easily.
