Great place to stay near Lassen Park

Reviewed By female2014

I couldn't complain about anything except that I needed to login to BW Wi-Fi every time before use. Location of the hotel is perfect and if we go to Lassen again we will stop there again. The location was in walking distance from (1) a big store where you can by everything, (2) Chester park with a playground, (3) elementary school with an open playground. Restaurants were also close. Almanor lake was also close (if you are without a toddler or if you drive). The major advantage for us was a tire shop across the road where a screw from our tire was removed and our car was repaired. Lassen Park was amazying.

The venue, and especially the staff, are all outstanding. Leann did a great job of working closely with bride, groom, and extended family. A Camp-like experience, surrounded by like people who came together to celebrate the wedding couple, and life in general. Excellent!

The Bidwell House B&B Inn

Located in the "Old Towne" Chester, The Bidwell House B&B Inn is the only three-diamond AAA rated Inn in the Chester/Lake Almanor basin. Fourteen distinctly different guest rooms, the swing on the porch, the unusual collection of antiques and attention to little details are all for the comfort of our guest. Chester/Lake Almanor basin and surrounding area spread across a natural wonderland created by millions of years of geologic forces, a crossroad where the granite of the Sierra Nevada meets the lava of the Cascades. Enjoy hours of pleasure on Lake Almanor with its 52 miles of shoreline, in Lassen Volcanic National Park which boasts the southernmost volcano in the Cascade range and in the 1.2 million acres that make up the Lassen National Forest and Caribou Wilderness area. This is a playground for all seasons, for all ages and any lifestyle.

Great atmosphere and location, very friendly owners, great breakfast

Reviewed By Scott G

I stayed here with my son for three nights in mid May, as a base for going to Lassen Volcanic National Park. It's a beautiful property, it reminded us of a Southern plantation. A plaque on it says it was built in 1901. It does show its age some, and much of the outside walkways could use some paint touch ups. The boards also creak a lot, so if someone is up before or after you walking around upstairs or past your door, you will likely hear it. It felt very homey, with lots of odds and ends and fun touches throughout the rooms and lobby, and the owners are super friendly- you can tell they really enjoy what they do. Breakfast each morning, from 8:30-9:30, was delicious. They accommodated my son's celiac disease by offering gluten free toast. I like super soft beds and the bed was a bit hard for me the first night, but I got used to it and had no issues the 2nd or 3rd night. There is no AC but there is a heating system. Our room was kinda dark and old-fashioned. It was big and the shower water was hot, but for almost 200 a night it could have been a bit fancier. But I suppose that's part of the Inn's charm, it's homey, not fancy. The Inn is located at the far end of the one main stretch of road going through Chester, and has a lot of things within easy walking distance, including a bike rental shop, restaurants, and a general store. If I came back to Chester I might do a cursory look for a cheaper option first (I heard some sort of logging convention- not kidding- was in town when we were there, so rooms were scare), but I would be perfectly happy staying at the Inn again too. It has great atmosphere and the owners are very friendly.

The Lodge at Nakoma

Greenhorn Ranch

Reviewed By Road320546

We want to thank the Owners for the remarkable experience we had at Greenhorn Ranch this past week. Resort style summer camp!! From reading reviews, we were aware of the special qualities and amenities of the ranch before we arrived but were delighted by the warm and friendly treatment we received from the staff, the excellent cuisine, the stately lodge with huge stone fireplace and the gorgeous surroundings. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable and competent. We were immediately impressed by your Director of Activities Jacob Walke, who we soon came to consider a friend. Enhanced by his academic background in the field of recreation and in-depth study of native horticulture, was his magnetic personality and gift of truly caring about our personal interests and what would make us happy ? We promised Jacob that we would return with our extended family as soon as we could! We were reassured that Zeke Aubrey, the Range Master, was extremely qualified and we enjoyed interesting conversations with him. High end Chef Jamie West was a treasure, creating the most delicious meals and quick to offer mouth watering freshly baked cookies to the guests to take with them to their cabin. Meal times were a treat and something we looked forward to. And Joe, wrangler and storyteller who is somewhat of a legend at the ranch, left us with memories of sitting around the bonfire while he played guitar and sang of the cowboys of the past. Our time filled with activities such as riding the trails on horseback, fly fishing, E-bike riding in the forest, shooting skeet and making new friends was balanced with serenity and relaxation. Cocktails before dinner with total immersion into the beauty and peace of the pines and mountains is unparalleled. We will be back! Laurie and Dixon Edgerton

Pullman House Inn

Like staying at grandma’s house

Reviewed By sp4301

This is a quaint and very comfortable place to stay. The owner is super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are smaller than a modern hotel but they have character and all of the amenities out need. The big quilted beds are cozy. The Pullman House is just a block from the railroad museum. As the name suggests, the Pullman House is railroad themed... as is the entire town. If you like trains there is a viewing deck to watch trains go by. DONT WORRY about train noise, there aren’t any crossings in town so the trains don’t blow their horns. I look forward to staying here again when in Portola.

Overpriced, noisy

Reviewed By cqfp123

Overpriced old motel. Thin walls and no soundproofing - plenty of noise from the street and other rooms. The room looked dated, with very old carpet. Amenities included coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Comfortable bed and pillows. Good water pressure in the shower. Slow wifi. Convenient parking. Friendly staff. Continental breakfast provided (grab-and-go).
