Ontario, Canada Food Guide: 10 Contemporary food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Niagara-on-the-Lake

August 11, 2020 Kaleigh Reichenbach

Reviews on Contemporary food in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. In Canada's wine country, Niagara-on-the-Lake presents a well-preserved 19th-century village and its charms. Drive or bike through the area, stopping at wineries and Fort George National Historic Site. Ride along the Niagara Escarpment on horseback or book a white-water adventure at nearby Niagara Falls (you might have heard of them).

Our dinner at Play was very good. It’s nice and quite with a relaxed feel. We ordered the Charcuterie board which had more than enough food for two and total delicious. We also had the fish tacos and a flatbread pizza, both fantastic. Service was excellent. Our server split the tacos onto two separate plates which was a great idea. We definitely will return next time we are at the White Oaks.Thank you "BigGeorge62" for your terrific feedback and taking the time to write in! It is so wonderful to hear so many great comments about your meal and service! Our Mission Statement is: "Each guest will be treated as though the success of our business depends on that individual alone"We truly appreciate your comments and look forward to your return visit!Sincerely,Heather Scerbo, Executive Assistant to the Hotel General Manager

We visited here after a recommendation from our B&B owner. We thoroughly enjoyed our choices of wood fired pizzas, which were delightfully crisp, thin based and had delicious toppings. Exactly as they should be.We found the wine menu to be full of inspired choices and had quite a dilemma in choosing.Service was friendly and efficient and we would not hesitate to recommend this place.

We have been providing outstanding hospitality since 1824. Enjoy culinary creations from our Executive Chef Jesse Prior and his team. We are proud to serve the best of Niagara wines and craft beers. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

We chose the Oban Inn to celebrate two significant birthdays, and, in spite of our mentioning this to the staff, no notice was taken of this notable occasion. When we first arrived, the corner we were tucked into was so noisy that we almost left. The wine by the glass list was limited and mundane. Three of the four of us found our entrees average; however, one of us did really enjoy the lamb. On a positive note, our server was cheerful and friendly. All in all, not the best choice for a special night.Hello Seaotter76,Thank you for the review. Our wines are 100% local VQA wines. We support the local economy and make sure that our business goes to the LOCAL GRAPE GROWERS, LOCAL VINEYARDS and most importantly LOCAL WINE MAKERS. We believe in a LOCAL economy with over 40 wines to choose from. Our wine list is not mundane as through your expression. As a guest, you can visit everything local from the NIAGARA REGION. This includes, but not limited to our Chef's care for local ingredients. We are pleased to thank you for compliment the service at the table. We are a 40 seat restaurant with limited views of our lush gardens. All the best,Mark YuhaszRestaurant Manager

Great food, as always. The staff are friendly and helpful in an informal way. Sat on the screened in patio, which was a bit noisy because of all the glass and a large loud party at a nearby table...perfect once they had gone! Highly recommend this restaurant but you need to book a table ahead of time. Thank you for choosing Zees Grill and for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I was happy to hear you enjoyed everything and that the staff took care of you. Thank you again for the recommendation. We look forward to welcoming you back. It was my wife’s birthday and she wanted somewhere different. A Tapas bar seemed to fit that bill. The Restaurant and Tapas bar are at the Strewn Winery. There’s also wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting here. The restaurant offered very different types of meals. The pastas were very filling, I’m told. I had a goat cheese tart. Served on bed of Bibb Lettuce. Delish! The wife tried a beverage combining white balsamic and soda water. She raved about it. Reservations are suggested.

Jill and I were wanting to go on a car trip somewhere on our special Friday afternoon. I called Ravine, after reviewing their menu. Our eating choices are quite limited, as their menu did not have very much that we can eat. We are no chicken, no red meat no grains no sugar no dairy. We are a real pain for restaurants. I was assured that they would make something up for us that would suit us. (By the way I was not disappointed.)The restaurant is very charming over looking the Vineyard. The pictures below will give you a good sense of the charm. The waitress knew of our eating choices. See I carefully went through the menu, and explained how some of the items could be slightly adjusted to our desires. We decided on the halibut/mussels and the watermelon salad to share. You can see from the photographs, that the presentation was absolutely gorgeous. The flavours were wonderful. We ordered two glasses of the Ravine wine, one being the Cabernet Franc and the other the Sand and Gravel Redcoat. Both wines had a wonderful bouquet and the flavours did not disappoint. The restaurant was well staffed, and the service was impeccable. Our waitress was very helpful. We drove 280 km, round trip (in our Tesla) and it was worth it. Hi Bob and Jill,Thank you for choosing Ravine Vineyard as a destination on your travels! We love hearing stories of those coming from afar and their experience being worth the trip. Our servers are directed to accommodate dining choices to the best of our ability. I'm pleased to know they came through for you.Safe travels and we hope to see you on the next visit! Thanks again.
