Don’t waste your money unless staying to attend a function

I have never written a poor review before having been brought up that if I couldn’t say anything nice then say nothing at all. However…. We arrived at the hotel to be told all the rooms apart from ours and 2 others were booked by guests attending a wedding, not a problem we thought . That was mistake number one . Surely we should have been warned in advance that service would be virtually non existent as all staff were working at the wedding? We had asked for a quiet room , we were given one directly overlooking the wedding marquee/ outdoor drinking area / playground for the wedding . We do not blame the wedding guests in anyway, they were there to have a good time , but maybe the hotel should figure out guests not attending the wedding should not be subjected to loud music, people drinking , children racing round etc when we were away to get some peace and quiet! When we arrived we were told we could t eat till after 7 , again because they were busy with the wedding The meal we were served was truly the worst I’ve ever eaten and the service was dreadful ( not really the fault of our server he was running around as he was obviously expected to serve the 3 lots of diners in the dining area as well as serve in the bar ) We had.a long wait for drinks and our order to be taken when it arrived my starter of creamy mushrooms and toast was almost like mushroom soup, large mushrooms in very thin watered down sauce and 3 of the tiniest burnt triangles of ciabatta that were a insult I had then ordered pork, it was so tough I couldn’t cut it, when I eventually managed to saw a piece of it was so chewy I gave up. The dauphinois potatoes were hard. Nobody around to speak to about the meal, couldn’t find our server, in fact we didn’t see him again , gave up on any chance of a dessert and went to our room. We had 3 flat pillows between 2 of us We asked for a fourth pillow to be told there were no more in the hotel ! They suggested we use our bath towels ! What were we supposed to dry ourselves with ? Eventually a pillow was found ! Who knows where from Breakfast was served in a one hour period 9-10am we got down at 9.05 to find all the tables bar one full. When we sat down one of the wedding guests said they were saving it for a family member. There was nowhere else to sit so we sat down but felt very uncomfortable On check out we weren’t asked about our stay, we were obviously a inconvenience. Please do not waste your money staying here unless you are a wedding guest

Absolute Shambles

Reviewed By DaimlerDreamer

I booked a 2 nights stay at Swan House through a third party booking app. On the day the reservation was due to commence, I received a message from the property that a mistake had been made in the price quoted and paid. At the time I was half way in to a 200 miles journey to the property. What followed was hours of three way communication between myself, the property and the third party booking app. The proprietor blamed the third party for the error and the third party blamed the proprietor. Ultimately, the proprietor made the decision not to honour the booking, leaving me stranded and out of pocket. In no way should the paying customer be inconvenienced and financially penalised for errors that are not their responsibility. The whole experience was totally unsatisfactory.

We've just had 3 night's b&b at the Wellington Heifer and it's been really good. Room 1 is large and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfy and the double glazing amazing. Not a sound from the traffic. Rob, Johnny and Charlotte were all excellent and always smiling and helpful. The evening meals were outstanding and the breakfasts set us up for the day. Definitely a place to recommend and return to.
