A return visit (the fourth) and the standard never waivers.
The dining room is both elegant and comfortable, with table placed close enough together to create a gentle buzz but far enough apart to hold a conversation at normal volume.
Despite there being a fairly large party in progress in a private dining room, service in the main dining room was generally efficient and attentive with courses arriving at just the righ intervals.
A truffle menu (after all it was january in the heart of the truffle region) was exceptional. The truffle were used with care so that nothing was overwhelmed but surprising flavour combinations, truffle and banana (?!) abounded. Exceptional dishes included the tartare of bull, the ile flottante and the mascarpone with truffles.
Wine by the glass was well chosen and poured with a generous hand.
Altogether a superb evening and a bill that was less than half that at a two star Paris restaurant the same week.

Creperie Le Frenchy

we came here because of the TripAdvisor reviews and can confirm them fully. As i had to drive i went for the coffee menu instead of the cidre menu. I had a flawlees diner with a tasty "complete" and a crepes with homemade salted caramel. The waitress spoke fluent english and was really charming. The only thing i want to mention is that there is only bootled beers available which may be delicious if you like to taste beer specialities, but i was just looking forward to a simple panaché which i couldn't get. Anyhow, i definitely recommend the Frenchy and i surely come back if i am in Nimes again.

Wonderful specialities from the south west of France. We had an excellent dinner here last night: started with slivers of foie gras, the duck confit and a delicious cold souffle. Extensive (and expensive) wine list. We had a very nice Chateau Ollieux Romanis Corbieres Bouterac. Excellent, efficient and friendly service. Some in our group tried the cepes risotto and it was delicious as well.

Coming from a Vietnamese background ourselves, we've been cautious about trying Vietnamese food in Europe but Hanoi was a great surprise.
Owned and operated by a Vietnamese family, the food is tasty, good value for money and the staff are very friendly.
We'd recommend a visit for good fresh and delicious food.

L'Ancien Theatre

Reviewed By marcus_982 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

A very good friend of mine and I went to 'L' Ancien Theatre' based on the great reviews on tripadvisor. When we arrived and asked for a table for two, the waiter offered us one of the tables that were available. A few seconds later, the owner arrived and welcomed us to his restaurant. When my friend asked a question about the menu, the owner reacted in a very odd way and basically told us that we had just lost our table and that the restaurant was actually fully booked...
It felt like the owner was 'bothered' by our question and was not in the mood of answering questions about the menu.
All in all a very interesting way of treating clients that walk into your restaurant and like to spend some money.
We found this behavior very rude and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

After searching around for a reasonably priced menu in Nîmes I found this restaurant just up one of the roads from the Maison Carrée. There are several tables outside in the summer but not an overwhelming amount. It seems that one gentleman runs most of the restaurant in terms of Seating and waiting the tables but he did a wonderful job. The menu is mostly in French but with items that are easily translated and everything is good! You can do the set menu of a starter plus a main, a main plus a dessert, or the starter, main and dessert. All the food is sourced from the market just down the road and is incredibly fresh. I had the tartine with salmon which was particularly tasty. My favorite part was the dessert in which I got a creme de chocolat which is really a chocolate mousse that has fresh whipped cream topping it and is absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend anyone to visit!

Skab

A truly gastronomique experience. By far the best meal we had in Nimes. We chose one of the set menus - the Plaisar. It was sumptuous and delighted the palate. As did the bottle of Bandol which accompanied our meal. I could write reams about our evening at Skab and the quality of the food and wine. But my suggestion is that if you visit Nimes, book a table. You won't be disappointed, you'll be delighted.

We really enjoyed lunch at the Bistrot le Republique. The welcome was exceptionally friendly and the food great. The langoustines stood out but everything was decent including a very nice local red. And at under 50 euros for two people, three courses, wine and coffee, what can you say? While it very French (pretty much all the clientele were local) the waitress was happy to translate. And there was no sense that as a tourist you were any less welcome than the locals. The place was full by 1230 so get their early and enjoy!

This wonderful restaurant is set in a park away from the hustle and bustle of Nimes. The food is outstanding and the service was relaxed and friendly but efficient. We enjoyed a wonderful lobster risotto with truffles and a delightful Hake dish served with aubergine ratatouille. The whole place is very stylish and well designed.
Highly recommended.
