The food is excellent, hands down from what the group I was with said. I am Gluten Sensitive & at the time, this place was not accommodating so I had mussels and a salad Kindly sucks when you are with a group and they indulge & you have to split the bill. Ok - onto my review: The place is really SMALL & tables are too close together so if you like family style with people next to you - this is for you. THE NOISE FACTOR is nothing short of absolutely annoying. The night we were there the owner sang, great voice, however, with the place being packed and people talking it was truly a non-enjoyable night out. We could have done without his singing. Parking is on the street so prepare to walk on a Fri or Sat. There is a bakery connected to the restaurant which is really good. THE OWNER SHOULD INVEST IN SOME NOISE FILTERING products to put on the ceiling or walls to make this a more enjoyable dining experience. Also some GLUTEN FREE dishes would be encouraged since many people have this sensitivity especially when a person has a thyroid disease !!!

What makes a great restaurant great is more than just good cuisine. The combination of cuisine, service, atmosphere and value are the attributes to rate a restaurant. The food here however good, can’t overcome the noise level in the dining room. The server had to scream out the daily specials and still needed to repeat herself. We were a party of 6 who could only chat with the person to immediate right or left. A member of our party was an architect and he said, there’s way too much hardscape and nothing to flatten the noise level. I’m sorry, but I won’t return. I enjoy conversation that can be heard without the use of a bullhorn.

First, this is a bring your own booze place. There is a liquor store a block away so you can buy your stuff there. The restaurant is very accommodating in regard to whatever you bring in to drink. The service was excellent. The food was very good. We tried the Barada cheese, which is handmade… Delicious. We also had the veal and beef meatballs for an appetizer. It was huge! I had the scallops with cauliflower purée and it was delicious. The desserts were great too. Definitely a neat place, even though it’s quite small. Make a reservation using OpenTable.

Italian Home Made Style

Our party of five discovered Luigi’s by chance and found this traditional Italian restaurant a pleasant surprise. It is in the Forest Hill section of Newark and long a mainstay in the neighborhood. We were the first to arrive for lunch in the small storefront restaurant of a dozen tables. When we left, every table was full.It has a full traditional menu which we started with stuffed mushrooms and antipasto. The mortadella and salami were nicely garnished with olives, cheese and tomatoes. The bread was fresh and warm. Our entrees consisted of large portions. The Veal Luigi, Chicken Napolitano, Chicken Sorrentino and Arugula Salad were served with an abundance of side salads and pasta. The cuisine was a nice oasis in the urban landscape. Nevertheless, from a constructive culinary critique, the kitchen can always improve. Some dishes had large portions of hot peppers and tomatoes, but adding some cooked mushrooms and onions would have added more color and texture to the entrees. The Chicken Napolitano could have had a seared glaze of panko instead of sprinkled bread crumbs that lacked consistency. The black olives in the antipasto could have more ripe texture instead of looking like shriveled prunes. It is BYOB, but we ordered soft drinks, ice tea and hot tea. We found that the milk served with the tea could have been cooler than room temperature and wish that the refills would have been complimentary instead of charged for each serving. Service was attentive and friendly but uneven on certain orders. Despite these minor items, we found Luigi’s to offer great value and would return to try other menu items.

We celebrated my sisters getting her masters in nursing and had dinner here for about 12 people. Besides the challenges of finding parking, it’s very accessible. The server was very sweet and attentive and the overall atmosphere is casual and comfortable. We had our 4 year old and it was way past her bedtime, so we quickly ordered a margarita pizza. It was perfect for her and for us. We also shared the aracini. The pasta fishers were very generous in size and flavorful. It’s BYOB which makes it more economical for large parties. Overall good good and great service for a crowd.

I requested a reservation online for a large family meal after an interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Our family was flying in from all over the country. I was very impressed that the owner called me right away and confirmed the reservation after offering his condolences several times. Matthew explained that there would be another larger group plus open tables which was of no concern to us but it was nice that he fully explained the size of the restaurant. The younger adults and children established their own territory at the table leaving the elder statesmen to speak freely. The staff was polite, polished and very attentive without ever being intrusive. Most of the adults ordered seafood and the respective meals were fresh and extremely well prepared. My mom always loved restaurants like this and she would have been very pleased that we were all fortunate enough to find Matthews and share quality time together as a family....thank you Matthew.

Corso 98

Reviewed By conradb2

Visited 01/05/2019We've been coming here for many years. The only reason we don't come here more often is because there are some many restaurants in Montclair and the surrounding area and so little time, but Corso 98 is definitely one of our favorites. We definitely need to come here more frequently. For our appetizer we started with the mussels with sausage, which is a tasty and filling dish, easily enough for 2. I had the grilled center cut prime pork chop “carella”, with roasted 'taters' on a bed of broccoli rabe and roasted vinegar hot peppers. (but not too hot.) My wife has the Chilean Sea bass, which she loved. Obviously this didn't come 'alone'... I just can't remember what accompanied this tasty fish, but Corso does a terrific job with their sea bass. We're trying to cut back on desserts, so none of that on this trip. We (of course) did bring some wine to enhance these fine meals. Can't beat a BYO!

Give me a relaxed welcoming environment serving great food over a uptight fancy pants restaurant serving overpriced food every time. Star Pizzeria did not disappoint. Here I will say that it's everything that makes it great. The chill bar with lots of tables, tv's, locals, cheap beer, and good food. We ordered a plain and pepporni pizza. The pizza was crispy, cheesy, and tasty. It was good in a thin crust bar style pizza is good. Would I go back just for the pizza? Probably not but if someone wants good food, cheap drinks, and a casual atmosphere. Star Tavern is a great spot.

Fascino is a wonderful place - lovely rooms, excellent service, a terrific menu and absolutely everything was well executed. It's not especially fancy, but warm, friendly, efficient and our group of four had a memorable evening sharing the oysters, roasted Spanish octopus, pappardelle with braised lamb sugo (my personal favorite), halibut, and strip steak, and a side of parmigiana spaetzle (because, you know, who wouldn't), and there was not a misstep or off note throughout. I can't say I'd drive the two hours we would need to get there, but if I have any reason again to be near Montclair, I'd go back in a heart beat.
