Had an excellent breakfast at the Riverhouse Cafe. Everything there is organic and homemade and the place is very friendly, with counter and table service that is helpful and efficient. The roasted vegetable omelet was very good, with a variety of fresh roasted root vegetables, home fries and rye bread. Fresher brewed iced tea was very good as well.A good place right in the middle of town.

Friendly, quick service, good selection on the menu. Recommend their omelettes (especially with the chorizo sausage) and french toast with strawberries. Decent coffee with free refills. Family-friendly and great for early risers--opens at 5 a.m.! Inexpensive, considering what you get.

Hayward's Ice Cream of Milford

My companion makes a special detour whenever she can during the summer months to eat here at Hayward's. Her favorite lunch is their chili-covered hot dog, followed by a kiddie size hot fudge sundae. In years gone by, customers could choose two ice cream flavors in the kiddie size; this year one must choose only one flavor. My companion said she didn’t understand that logic, because there is more than one scoop in a kiddie size dish. This is not a health food paradise. If you want small portions of ice cream, fuhgeddaboudit. Even the kiddie size ice cream would feed a kiddie moose. Hayward's offers dozens of ice cream flavors with all the fixings. Their ice cream is rich and flavorful, and my companion, a self-declared ice cream “snob,” says it the best ice cream in New Hampshire, but second to her favorite ice cream stand in a dairy farming area of New York.In addition to ice cream, you can get lunch and dinner sandwiches and plates with your choice of hot dogs, mac & cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, sauerkraut. They also have lobster salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad. Try to avoid coming here summer evenings after youth baseball games. Entire leagues and their parents descend on Hayward's and the line goes out to the parking lot. At the end of the season in October, Hayward's offers all of its remaining ice cream for sale at deep discount prices. In the winter, Hayward's sells Christmas trees. The franchise has a loyal following--opening day in the late winter is eagerly awaited by it fans. The date is posted on their sign out front.

We heard the Hilltop Cafe had changed hands, and we were worried the weekend four course dinners might be discontinued. Last night, we found out that the chef Michael and his family had bought the restaurant! What a relief, and what a fabulous dinner! The theme was Indian, and every course was so delicious and obviously made with such care! This is a family venture, and what a group of hard workers! Our server was Michael's daughter, home from college. She was so kind, explaining the ingredients in all the special dishes, even though she was so busy! The potato and pea samosa was outstanding, the chutney was just perfect as an accompaniment. We enjoyed the cauliflower salad, especially the paneer that came with it. We had both the cauliflower and chicken tikki masala, and the sauce was outstanding! Dessert was a chai spiced carrot cake, unbelievable! We appreciated that the chef took the time to speak to each customer, making sure everyone was happy with his/her meal! We enjoyed the dinner so much, we went back for breakfast, and we enjoyed it just as much! Thank you for the very special meals!!! We can't wait to come back!

Buckley's Bakery and Cafe

Reviewed By jociemarie

I went at the recommendation of a co-worker with an emphasis on their desserts, so I decided to go with my husband and give Buckley's Bakery a try; upon entering, it looked like they had a ticket system similar to what you'd see at the deli counter, but instead we were asked by one of the several employees behind the counter if we could be helped. Having never been there before, it took us some time to decide on a couple of paninis, drinks, and desserts. Because they make the paninis to order, there was a bit of an awkward wait near the register, not really knowing where to stand. Other than that, the staff was super friendly and helpful and the extra seating upstairs was a nice getaway from the hustle downstairs. I didn't take a picture but for my dessert I had a cream puff shaped liked a swan - I thought it was absolutely lovely! Thanks so much for choosing to dine with us, and taking the time to leave us some of your feedback. So glad to hear you enjoyed the cream puff swan, and our staff was helpful! We are always working to improve things for our guests, so we really do appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review!
