New Brunswick, Canada Food Guide: 10 American food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Fredericton

December 22, 2019 Hector Krause

Reviews on American food in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Spread along both sides of the majestic St. John River, Fredericton combines the coziness of a small town with the world-class institutions of a city much larger than this humble capital. Tree-lined streets and suburban neighborhoods of Victorian-era homes live harmoniously alongside three universities, countless historic sites, museums, riverfront trails and restaurants featuring local and international cuisines. Fredericton also boasts a number of world-renowned festivals.

Had breakfast here on two days while staying at the hotel. (It comes complimentary with the room). Only a basic breakfast is included in the room deal but the scrambled eggs, sausage and ww toast were quite good. I've eaten in this restaurant at other times in the past and it has always been better than average.

RustiCo

On a beautiful sunny night in Fredericton, we wandered over to RustiCo for drinks and dinner. There is a large deck/patio area with plenty of seating for outside diners, but we chose a spot inside at the bar. Our bartender/server was fast, friendly, and full of suggestions about the large selection of beers on tap, as well as the menu options. Beer was cold, wine was a generous 9oz pour, and we couldn’t have been happier...until the food came out! Who knew a beet salad and pizza margherita could be soooo good! The beet salad was clean, fresh and served with a Dijon dressing and a fig infused feta cheese. Wonderful! But the pizza...WOW! A simple combination of San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil...served Neapolitan Style. YUM! We will definitely be back again!

Visited this restaurant as it was near our hotel and the front desk recommended them to us. We were not disappointed! Brooke, our server was amazing with her knowledge of the craft beers they offer on tap. She also provided a variety of options when it came to food. We ended up getting wings to start (Fantastic!!!) and I had the lemon haddock. My husband has a grilled chicken sandwich with the cranberry goat cheese salad and the kids had wings and Buffalo fries. All in all, the food was very good and the beers were amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a family restaurant.

Joe's Diner

I grew up in Devon and Joe's Diner was a regular stop during my youth. We were in Fredericton for a week and decided to skip the hotel breakfast and head to Joe's. The MacTavish family retired a number of years ago and the diner has changed hands a few times since but the current owners are doing a fabulous job. Homemade bread and buns and baked beans. Friendly prompt service. We both had the breakfast special for only $7.50! Extremely filling. The diner is nothing fancy but that's what I expect in a diner. If I wanted modern, shiny, spacious I'd go to McDonalds or Tim Horton or A&W. But that's never going to happen. I'll be back!

We are spending the holidays at the Delta and needed additional glassware for visiting family. What to do? I went down, asked if it were possible to borrow some glasses, and the gal there was so accommodating and eager to help me out. I love feeling like my request is not a big deal and being asked, is there anything else you need? Amazing service. Thank you!

Swiss Chalet Rotisserie & Grill

Since our doors first opened in 1954, Canadian families have been coming back to Swiss Chalet generation after generation. Our rotisserie ovens only accept fresh (never frozen), grain-fed, Canadian Grade A chickens, because quality is all we know. So what

Really busy takeout. We chose to eat in.This is a rotisserie chicken joint. They roast chickens competently. They put left-over chicken in chicken pot-pies, also competently. You'd think they'd have good gravy. You would be so, so wrong. Lindt chocolates accompany the holiday specials. This is arguably the most Swiss thing about the place. The holiday specials = roast chicken served with dressing and cranberry sauce, and the aforementioned chocolates. They should do this year-round, because they really aren't that good at french fries, whereas they are reasonably good at dressing. They should also consider adding a real chicken gravy option, instead of the sweet dipping sauce that tastes like it's trying to be a dessert.Good afternoon, we appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback and we would like to address your concerns right away. I was on vacation visiting family in Fredericton when I was told about a Keto friendly bistro pub in downtown Fredericton. The 540 Kitchen is a wonderful eating experience whether you are on a Keto diet or not. The food is fresh, bright and full of flavour. We started with the steak tartare, dozen fresh oysters and the main was a perfectly cooked ribeye with vegetables. Even though I’m sure fries would have been good, more veggies meant more steak. If you are looking for a nice place for dinner with friends or family you cannot miss with the 540 Kitchen. Our server Graig was pleasant and helped navigate the modest but tasty menu.

We arrived a 6 on a Tuesday with no reservation and were seated without problem in the bar area. Although there were no Lager or Pilsner on the menu, I managed to find a nice liquid appetizer.I started with the cesaar salad. Not exactly inspiring but it was a great size. The croutons were brutal and should be a little more artisan so it isn't so boring.I had the striploin with a surprise side of onion rings/strips. Very tasty and well presented. Ask for the onion rings as it's not on the menu but seems to be an additional side you can get for a $2 premium. The wine list was a tad sparse and I couldn'f find anything I red I even wanted to try.My dining companion had the ribs and said he loved them.Hi flingwing,Thank you very much for your review.
