We made the reservation a day in advance via Hoshinoya Karuizawa and we are quite looking forward to it. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by staff. Appetizer, salad, soup, dessert, fruit, tea, and coffee are all arranged in buffet tapas-style. The main dish is a crepe made from soba flour with fresh tomatoes and cheese and it serves around 15 to 20 mins after they took your order. The staff take good care of customer food restriction as when I mentioned I do not want cheese, they ask very specifically is another food restriction I have and explain in detail that what is used to make of the crepe. Food is super yum and crepe tasted very well. The restaurant was full at 8am that's why the reservation policy is quite strict. It;s a health and excellent way to start our day at Karuizawa! Key points to note: - Reservation is required one day in advance. - Time for July/Aug: 7am to 9:30am (last order) - Price: 3200 yen (Tax & service charges are excluded)

The dishes were delicious! All dishes use mushroom as part of the ingredients. I like the beef especially! The chef picks mushrooms in the mountain and he learnt cooking in Tokyo. The couples are nice and kind! I will definitely visit again if I come again!

A date, with friends or alone with just a book as company after 7 years still my favourite. Must enjoy meat and wine and you will have a great lunch/dinner. T-bone, chicken are my choice of main. For the dinner starter go for either rillette or foie gras croquette

Delicious French food, sauce is very nice and good match with the food, can see the knowledge and how hard the chef prepare for the food. Presentation is also nice. Desert is a surprise. Service is superb. The only thing I would change would be the house red. Price is reasonable for the wine but can offer better one. You can choose 9800 yen or 15000 yen set dinner. I chose the latter one

The food is French and beautifully prepared. The service is first rate. The wines are fine. The outlook is Lake New Town gardens which are lovely. What more could a tired traveller ask for? It's a fair hike from town (far too far to walk, though it can be cycled). Compared to other restaurants in Karuizawa this is arguably the best. The lunch menu (three courses) is not expensive. Bon apetit.

Service is excellent and the staff is more than polite. The lamb and dessert were delicious, everything else average or below. It is far too pretentious and expensive for the food it serves. Very high cost for drinks as well, including for water.Overall, extremely bad value for money.

The restaurant serves fine French cuisine with Japanese ingredients. The dishes are beautifully presented and delicious. Very interesting as the food has theme under forest. Impeccable service. Lots of food. Top of the league. Simply great value for the money.

Manpei Hotel is where Karuizawa's modern history began and they make sure you know it. I'm not sure how many famous people have eaten in this dining room, but it certainly has a historical feeling to it, and I mean that mostly in a good way. Service was excellent, although the fact that we were the only customers lunching on a day in early April may have made the waiters extra attentive. We went for a lunch course with grilled lamb chop and an a-la-carte beef curry. The curry is famous here, and this is not your ordinary beef curry, but several tender, perfectly cooked chunks of beef served with a rich curry sauce on the side. Unusual and tasty. The lamb chop was served a bit rare and was very tasty. Lunch course includes a small fresh salad and a dessert. Not cheap... the curry by itself was around 3000 yen and the lunch course around 5000, but not unreasonable. Only complaint was that the food was rather on the heavy side; you might want to explore other options if you are looking for a light lunch.
