Shan State borders China to the north, Laos to the east, and Thailand to the south, and five administrative divisions of Burma in the west. Largest of the 14 administrative divisions by land area, Shan State covers 155,800 km², almost a quarter of the total area of Burma. The state gets its name from the Shan people, one of several ethnic groups that inhabit the area. Shan State is largely rural, with only three cities of significant size: Lashio, Kengtung, and the capital, Taunggyi. Taunggyi is 150.7 km north east of the nation's capital Naypyitaw.

Golden Kite is great especially for large groups. The owner/manager is quite gregarious and loves to tell you about the specials and ingredients. I actually ate here twice and had the mushroom pizza both times because I enjoyed it so much. I also had guacamole one night and it was delicious and a nice change of pace after eating Burmese food for 7 days. Highly recommend stopping in while in Nyang Shwe.

We visited to enjoy a cooling fruit juice. I chose pineapple juice, which was exceptionally good. Our guide and my wife preferred an avocado shake, which was also good. The restaurant is on the creeks edge and provides good viewing of the boats going by. The toilets are in the western style and very clean. A strange aspect in the restaurant is suspended plastic bags full of water. These are claimed to frighten flies away! The drinks were 2000 kyat each, but we were charged only 4000. Apparently guides are not charged.

This unassuming restaurant is a gem. The owner is a lovely Burmese woman who prides herself on cooking with the freshest, organic ingredients. Her homemade pesto pasta is delicious, and her pizzas were pretty good for the location. If you're in the mood for drinks, the mojitos were some of the best I've ever had. Please do support local restaurants like this one during your trip!!

This place is the only nighlife place in Nyaungshwe. 3 floors including roof top with pétanque game field, amazing decoration, exceptional food & cocktails, entertaining games, great management team (thanks to Cedric and Jean-Luc, the new manager).The place to be if you want to party in Nyaungshwe and have a great dinner.You will meet locals and tourists which is not the case of most bars & restaurants here.Will defitly go there again!!! We visit Red House Restaurant today. The food was really amazing and delicious and the service is very good. The staff is very friendly, kind and nice and speak good English! One of my favorites in Kalaw. You have to give it a try!

A beautifull small hidden place owned by a Vietnamees lady. Coffee and pizza tasted great, they also deliver (we stayed at hillock villa and were very tired so we asked and they deliverd fast a hot pizza. The lady speaks very good English and knows how to make you feel comfortable. Sheâs also able to explain in a passionate way whatâs going on in her country and whatâs need to be done. She has a very nice staff and motivates them to study and get educated. Great place and lady, a must do according to me. Next to her little restaurant sheâs building a small hotel for max 10 rooms, ready around 1/1/2020Thank you very much for your review, we glad that you are happy with our service and food.
