We enjoyed delicious ham, eggs and chips followed by equally delicious apple pie served by friendly, smiling staff. And we were fascinated by the story told on the menu of the history of the building, including the fact that for many years there was a public footpath which went right through it and which was used by funeral processions going to the church. Now internally it is light and bright with an ideal ambience for a relaxing lunch. To be recommended.

The Hope Chest Deli

We were staying in Hope recently and picked up our picnics and lunches here several days running. Everything was lovely but we'd particularly recommend the spinach and ricotta pastry, the sausage rolls and the Bakewell tart/pudding. The staff were really friendly and I was especially touched by how patient they were with my (adult) daughter who is autistic and has a learning difficulty.

Very pleasant cafe with a good range of food. However we thought the cakes were expensive - a slice of carrot cake at £3.75 was somewhat too steep for us (no prices displayed but we were glad we asked before ordering) so we just had drinks which were nice. Friendly staff and good service so well worth a visit, but watch those prices. Many thanks for your review; just a comment re our prices - all our cakes are small batch & hand made on the premises from premium quality ingredients (butter/free range eggs/real vanilla extracts etc). Portions are generous and customers often share a piece of our layer cakes because of that and traybake prices start at 2.50.Prices are also inclusive of VAT, reflect our commitment to sustainable business practices which attract higher overheads (compostable cups etc; increased recycling costs and paying staff fairly and above minimum wage).I’m glad you enjoyed your drinks and experienced good service. Best wishes, Sara

We visited while walking but this cafe also welcomes cyclists and riders - they even have stables! The cafe is beautifully furnished with lovely solid wood furniture and a log burning stove. The setting is amazing, walk down the lane 500m from the main footpaths and bridleway and you are “in the middle of nowhere” - the walk back up the lane is also good to burn off the calories from the cakes that you couldn’t resist! We stayed in the attached b&b so had breakfast as well as stopping for a scone with cream and jam after our walk. There is a great choice on the menu and they serve a lovely proper sized pot of tea! The food is all high quality and locally sourced as well as the owners being welcoming and being happy to advise you on good local walks. I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone visiting the Peak District.
