Reviews on Slovenian food in Piran, Slovenian Littoral Region, Slovenia. Piran (Slovene pronunciation: [piˈɾáːn] ( listen); Italian: Pirano [piˈraːno]) is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the three major towns of Slovenian Istria. The town has much medieval architecture, with narrow streets and compact houses. Piran is the administrative centre of the local area and one of Slovenia's major tourist attractions. Until the mid-20th century, Italian was the dominant language, but was replaced by Slovene as demographics shifted.

We found this place by coincidence,. You must bit a little lucky to find your free table, but food is worth to wait for free one. We had Calamari and Mussels.. Amazing. The atmosphere is amazing, specially during the nice warm evening hours. Price wise, nice seafood 2 nice portions and salat and bread for 24Eur all together - be careful its self service, so you order and pick up food at the window, where you do meet a polite and helpful staff. Only drinks are being served to the table. Also decent price for Piran. Much recomended

Location is perfect, at the water’s edge. Service was welcoming and friendly. Our disappointment in our overall experience, though, had to do with how our order was handled and quality of the meal.We wanted to order bursara shrimp (with tomato sauce, not the white wine sauce) but the server insisted that the white wine sauce was better. We said we prefer the red sauce. After we placed our order, the server returned to say we should go for the Adriatic shrimp because it’s much better. I asked the price and he said, 'it's just a little more,’ so we went for the upgrade. When we received our meal, he delivered the Adriatic bursara shrimp with white sauce. When we reminded him that we preferred the red sauce, he took it back to have it adjusted. By the time my mom’s shrimp was adjusted with red sauce, I was nearly done with my meal of fried calamari and shrimp. When we got the bill, we found that the Adriatic shrimp was 30EU and the shrimp we originally wanted was 17EU. I expect a 3-5EU difference, but it was 13EU more! I didn't clarify the cost of the upgrade when our server suggested it, but 13EU is a considerable difference. It's not the cost that's bothersome to me, but the way it was presented as 'a little difference.'Food service was a bit slow (even though the large group before us had already been served) and with the back and forth with the placement and delivery of our order, it wasn’t exactly a relaxing experience. Food quality and taste of our meal was just ok.This experience is somewhat unfortunate because this was our only meal in beautiful Piran and IVO was specifically recommended to me.

A 30 minute drive from Trieste, this restaurant was one of my favorite restaurants. The food was absolutely delicious. They were so many offerings with truffles! Including the chocolate dessert with truffles on top. The food was creative, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Would definitely return here and look forward to coming every time I am in the area. Don’t miss this restaurant!

I was amazed reading in the reviews (post visit) that this restaurant is crowded and requires reservations. I went there for an early dinner to eat something before my bus left to Ljubljana. I was met at the restaurant door by a rather sour-faced individual who took exception when taking my order of just fish soup (which I changed later to soup and Mussels au naturel. This was a lucky decision because the soup was hardly edible. It was with surimi – in the coastal restaurant... Mussels were very good though. Thankfully, I was discarded by a sour-faced individual as an unprofitable client, so the rest of the service was quite nice. But still I do not understand the great reviews. The chef who makes such soup could go for a schooling even to the fishmarket of Helsinki where they make excellent soup.

Yesterday rain was pouring in Piran, and we got caught up in the middle of a storm, so we decided to enjoy our dinner at this restaurant which is located at the beginning of the harbour. We sat in the outdoor terrace, from which we had a nice view despite the cold wind.We ordered cevapcici, a salad and grilled bell peppers.Food was good, although the peppers could have been hot, and my ajvar was never brought to the table but in the end we were charged for it to my disappointment. We also had a baklava which was very good and large.Overall a good place to dine at, if you do not eat meat your choice will be very limited though.Service was friendly but could have been more attentive.

For one of the best restaurants in Piran, we certainly did not think so. The bread was good and the service was fine. The area was very sticky and hot because it’s in a side street. My parents had risotto with asparagus and scampi. It tasted ok, all I could taste was cream. My brother had the chicken and dried ham and it was ok too. It wasn’t served particularly well. I had the tuna steak with spinach and potatoes. The tuna steak was fine but it was overdone, chewy and tasted more like ham than anything. The potatoes were fine and the spinach tasted dirty. I’m sure there are better options on the menu, but what we had wasn’t worth having.

I have no idea where the positive reviews are coming from. We popped in here not realising it was so highly rated on TripAdvisor. I suspect it has become a victim of that success and can not keep up with demand. Self service concept is fine, but the food was ludicrously slow. When it finally arrived we were too hungry to send it back. Partner had very bland, dry squid. I had the polenta which was plain, dry and HUGELY over-priced. (€10 for a small plate.) The worst food we have had in all of Slovenia. A real shame. I'd suggest to the owners that they look into limiting service to a manageable level and stop being greedy and cramming customers in for expensive, low quality slow meals.

Right in the centre of the sleeping beauty, Piran. Parking thus in the huge garage right before the town entrance, free bus will take you close, alterntively it is some twenty minutes walk. A squeezed and dark interior, arranged with care and really good taste, but all (restrooms included) so small… A cute patio makes up for it. Additional tables on the pedestrians-only street during the summer season. Two charming shop windows offer a serious choice of serious rums, whiskies, cognacs…Service extremely friendly, maybe even a slightest degree too much so. It's all about show and design here – you can not but enjoy a ceremonial parade of grilled scampi on a huge metal serving tray carried by a waiter high above the tables. Or a fumed glass vessel hiding the well prepared food inside. Some 120 labels on the wine list, including a serious Dom Perignon vintage, all with high or extremely high margins (for Slovenia, clearly). Majority Slovene, some well chosen foreign. Even though most come for seafood, house offers a wide choice of interesting meat & poultry dishes. Not for vegetarians. Highly recommended: home made local pasta with smoked sea bass and cherry tomatoes. Innovative design of all dishes, taste still more traditional. 13 out of 20 on my very own scale for culinary impression.Good food, good service, nice wines – sounds great. Sadly, way too expensive for the product offered. Yet there is almost no alternative in town if you want to enjoy well prepared fresh seafood and not the tourist fastfood selection.Thank you for your visits and for sharing your experience! We are happy to hear that you liked the food and the service. As you mentioned, we are a small, family-run, restaurant, operating for decades in the same building. Our "home" may be limited in size, but we strive continuously grow to provide extraordinary sensory experience, with top-quality ingredients and interesting combinations. We value each individual feedback and we will surely use it in the future. Our guest's comments were always a great source of inspiration!Hope to meet you again!

The food was very tasty and varied. We had a slight misunderstanding and they solved it instantly. Location might not be the best but you forget that quickly because the atmosphere is nice. Feels genuine. Also as someone who always wears shorts and skirts, I was happy about the padding on my chair haha!
