Sadly I was too late to get a table. They were closed the first night in Aomori and full the next. Great reviews . Staff tried to find somewhere else for me to go . Will need to visit next time

If you want to visit a local sea food restaurant specialized for Aomori-pref., this restaurant is one of the best local Izakaya restaurant. If you donât know Izakaya, please google âIzakayaâ. You can find the explanation in wikipedia. This local Izakaya was run by local women. It is not familiar to sightseeing people, so you can experience old Japanese Izakaya and local food.In this Izakaya, there is only three course. There is no menu, basically. If my memory is correct, the courses are 2500 Yen, 3000Yen, and 3500 Yen.I ordered 3500 Yen course. Then we started with Japanese sake. Of course, Aomori local sake. The Name is Houhai(è±ç).I like this Houhai very much. You can drink beer, too. Then, several small appetizers are served to us.Something special around Aomori is Ascidiacea (HOYA in Japanese). It is a little bit peculiar taste. So Iâm afraid that some people maybe dislike its smell or taste.Sea urchin is also famous in Aomori-pref, and we enjoyed raw sea urchin eggs.Next, raw abalone is served as Sashimi. The taste and mouthfeel are very nice for us. I like it very much, too.Other Sashimi of raw fishes follows, itâs also delicious.Next one is a grilled salty fish and grilled scallop shell.Scallop is also local major product.Final one is crab. As I explained, almost all menus are cooked from the local special food. So, I would like to recommend this Izakaya restaurant, if you want to eat local special sea food around Aomori-pref.

I haven't logged in to write a review in a couple of years. But this restaurant needs to be shared. We ran out into a snowstorm looking for fried scallop, a local Aomori specialty. All the reviews here recommend Osanai tavern near the station. But when we got there, there were no tables and it was filled with cigarette smoke. So we walked a little further on Shinmachi street and found Kakigen, a little restaurant with about 8-10 tables. It is simply decorated and appears to be run by an older couple - mom and pop. Mom served us and was so welcoming. They have a handwritten English menu and she explained the dinner "sets" to us in mixed English and Japanese. Pop prepared the food in the back.We ordered what is essentially a "flight" of scallop prepared in different ways: miso soup, sashimi, deep fried and oden-style. We also tried a local specialty- miso oden, a vegetable stew served without the broth but with a ginger miso sauce. We rounded the order out with Local Tsugaru beer and sake ("dashuu"). I've never tasted scallop sashimi so fresh. It was almost sweet. We order another plate it was so good. We were told the scallops are in season March and early April and that our scallops had been fished from the sea today. Everything was so tasty. Our total bill came to ~6100 yen (~$50usd). A little more expensive than what we normally eat but it was worth it.

You'll find this place at the new Aomori Fish Market at the bottom floor of Auga. A lot of local people frequented the restaurant at the time. A group of middleaged men were talking about a local resident in a heavy aomori dialect. It was almost impossible to pick up the details of their conversation, but that in itself made it fun and unique experience.I had the sashimi teishoku (1800 yen) which included uni, tako, akagai, maguro, hotate and a lot more sashimi a long with rice and a shirako soup. Good stuff. Fresh from the coast of Aomori where the Pacific meets the Japanese Sea.The hotate (scallop) was especially great. The tako (octopus) was impossible to chew, however. And I've had my fair share of both ika and tako in Japan. The uni was good, but not the best I've had. The maguro was great. All in all a nice sashimi lunch. The restaurant obviously get to work with some great ingredients, but some of the great sushi chefs of Japan might be able to use the same stuff to compose even better tasting food.

This place was a blast and with very good food too. On the entertainment side, there is a shamisen performance, dancing with semi-obligatory audience participation, drumming and general fun. That part alone would make me recommend this place. But even better, the food is really good. Things to definitely try: the corn tempura, the deep fried garlic and the hon-maguro (sashimi in our case) as well as the grilled scallops. The other food was good as well - really nothing disappointed. They have an English menu and drink menu so even without Japanese youâll be okay to order. Overall a really enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.

I was there alone and assigned a seat on the ground floor. Despite I could not speak Japanese, the staff were trying hard to recommend dishes with body language and pointing at the menu. When I asked for a set of five-type sashimi, the staff kept asking me if I could finish it.The food was great, sashimi was fresh, and ordered a few local dishes. Portion of food was not small, for those eating alone, they may order two or three dishes for the first round. The wine / sake menu offered lots of choices at a reasonable price. Seems there was not much restaurants that open until quite late and they were quite full, recommend making advance booking.I ordered a iced tea, 5 types of sashimi, Salmon egg with rice, fried egg with some kind of scallop, steamed shells, the bill was around 4300yen.

The market is actually a row of shops and unless you slide the door open, you wouldn't really noticed there is market inside after all. However, you can use google maps to guide you easily anyway.Coupons system is used here, basically you can have 2 people filled up in less than 2000yen.After checking at all markets (Sapporo, Hakodate, Aomori, Tokyo - along the way from Hokkaido to Tokyo), we found that the seafood in the north is definitely unbeatable comparing to the one in the south. And to compare the price and quality, I would say this is the better place to get Hokkaido-grade seafood, but at Tokyo-grade price. We do noticed that in Tsukiji market, the seafood are priced much more higher than in Sapporo. Hence, if you have a chance to stop by Aomori, do make a visit to this market to splurge on the freshest seafood you can get!And I particularly love the clam-based miso soup too! To dine in here, you will need to purchase the coupons at the counter, either 1300 or 650yen - the amount depends on how many tickets you'll need to get all the dishes you want. You may also want to compare the tickets required at different stalls (some stalls require 2 tickets for a Tamagoyaki and another stall requires only 1 ticket--- sizes varies).Feel free to roam around the 3 lines of stalls before deciding! Also, if you are a big eater you might need the "big" rice which costs you 2 tickets. Regular size rice costs 1 ticket but that is adequate for most people as you can always top up with more dishes if you want to.
