Van Wert is a city in and the county seat of Van Wert County, Ohio, United States. The municipality is located in northwestern Ohio. The population was 10,846 at the 2010 census. It is the principal city of and is included in the Van Wert Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Lima-Van Wert-Wapakoneta, Ohio Combined Statistical Area. Van Wert is named for Isaac Van Wart, one of the captors of Major John André in the American Revolutionary War. A center of peony cultivation, Van Wert has hosted the annual Van Wert Peony Festival on and off since 1902. Van Wert is home to the first county library in the United States, the Brumback Library. It also has a thriving community art center the Wassenburg Art Center and the award-winning Van Wert Civic Theatre. The home office of Central Insurance Companies is located in Van Wert.

Wild Hare may not look like much...but looks can be deceiving. The owner takes great pride in cooking/smoking his brisket, ribs other delicious meats. The sides are also made fresh. Can't say enough good things about the brisket.
Expect paper plates and plasticware.
Will return the next time we're in town.

Truly Divine is more than a great bakery with huge donuts and rolls, fresh baked bread, buns and rolls, fresh made cakes,cookies,wedding cakes. We have amish made james and jellies,salsas,homemade dips,cheeseballs,salads, and sandwiches. We have the best fried chicken in Van Wert. We make many meals and salads from scratch. Our hot foods menu changes monthly from sausage and kraut, chicken enchiladas,to beef n noodles and meat loaf. We offer fresh Ice tea and Ice coffee along with old time sodas, teas and lemon aids. We also make great Lemon aid shake ups, just ask at the counter. We offer great breakfast platters with eggs fixed your way like grandma cooked them, fresh breakfast sandwiches and sausage and gravy. Stop in and give us a try, you wont be disappointed.

Nice bakery / deli. Luncheon sandwiches well packed with meat, Alfresco dining available. Baked goods are excellent as well.

Ate there Sat 10/28/2017 around 6pm with a group of 4 family members. Restaurant is a mom and pop shop in the center of town with a typical downtown storefront. Parking is street only. We were seated immediately at a large round table and browsed their extensive menu. Restaurant décor is pretty basic. Service was good throughout the meal.
We ordered way too much food including hot & sour and wonton soups, dumplings, mushu pork, general tsao shrimp, mapo tofu, sesame chicken, beef lo mein and shrimp fried rice. Food came quickly in waves as soon as it was prepared. No alcohol available so stuck with tea. Everything, except maybe the tofu dish was excellent. It seems like we took about half of the food home since portions were large.
Our cost for all of this was only $66.34 before tax which we thought was an outstanding value.

Our family decided to celebrate a birthday at the Black Angus in Van West Ohio. We enjoyed their Sunday brunch. The waitress was very friendly and the food was good. The only drawback was they started running of of food so we had to wait on it a few times. They had plenty of seating for small and larger parties. It was a pleasant atmosphere.

This restaurant was a nice surprise. Good quality food and a vast menu of entrees, I would highly recommend this place before a concert at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center or if you're just passing through town. Conveniently located off U.S. 30 and 127, they had a party of 4 in and out in under an hour.

Stopped while traveling on 30. This restaurant is a bit off the highway, but we were not on a hurry and the short drive was worth it! We were greeted when we walked in. The place has a great salad bar and often has a hot bar but it was later on Sunday evening so they were cleaning up. They do their own baking but there was not much left, it was July 3 after 7pm. We had great fried chicken, fish, sides and salad. Highly recommend this place!!!

In contrast to Mi Ranchito, this Mexican restaurant was great. It was recommended by the local folks who live in the town and they were right.
El Mexicano has a great atmosphere and pleasant place to eat. The food choices were abundant and the food was excellent.

Ate there Sunday 10/28/2017 with family and friends. Our group of 5 got there around 3:30pm to watch the NFL games and down a few brews. Noted that Trip Advisor reviews indicated we could expect a hit or miss experience. Ours was a hit...
We were seated immediately at a high rise table for 6 in the sports bar environment. TV screens were everywhere covering a variety of sport activities, including every active NFL game. Families brought their kids there too. Yea, it was a bit loud and rowdy in a friendly way, especially when teams scored. We too were guilty of vocally supporting our teams.
The menu was basic pub food, beer was plentiful and cold and our server, RaeAnn, was attentive. We were there for brews and football so got multiple imported beers at $4, a bunch of domestic beers at $2.92 each, a pitcher of beer for 9, tea for 2.29, a few cokes for 2.29. Somewhere during our beer fest we got nachos $9, an order of 10 wings $9.49, sliders $6.49, ribs $16.99, a chicken fillet $8.49, fish for $8.49 and fries for $2. Can't say the grub was fine dining quality, but it was good and fit the atmosphere.
After the NFL clock recorded another win for our team, we tried our luck at football toss, air hockey and a basketball challenge in their game room. Our cost for the day was $147.56 before tax and tip for our group of 5 party goers. Bottom line we had a lot of fun and enjoyed the experience.

About to embark on a road-trip across the great state of Ohio we popped into Collins on the way out of town to grab a few sandwiches. Thankfully it was a special pulled pork day. Delicious! The place smelled amazing, there was no resisting. Hopefully I make it back to Collins next time I'm in Van Wert.

There is not a lot to offer in Van Wert for eating. This is a pizza buffet but also has a menu. Service was less than average, and the pizza buffet was never restocked while we were there, not a lot to choose from. Our server was not very attentive to us period.
