This is a difficult restaurant to review as there are so many big pluses and minuses..It's an old Inn (1780?) North of Greene off Rt. 202..Very difficult to find if one does not have a GPS...We drove over from the coast with foodie friends...Lots of parking, a nice location in a primarily residential neighborhood. Very clean. An old keep/bar, beautiful wide board floors..A Main Dining Room and a porch plus a couple of rooms for private parties...Upon entering the DR our first impression was that the tables and chairs looked like they had been bought from a consignment shop and did not fit the "Old Inn/Fine Dining" decor..Secondly there were two very loud tables of Maine rednecks in jeans and wearing baseball hats. Why would any "fine dining" restaurant allow this?..The hostess, maybe the owner, seated us promptly. We had a reservation. No menus and no wine list..And we waited..And waited. Some young girl came by with four seafood cocktails on a tray and asked it we wanted any but that they were not included in the prix fix dinner. This was the first we had heard that they only offered a prix fix dinner. We told her we wanted drinks first and she promised the waitress would be with us shortly and seemed very confused..And we waited some more. The restaurant was about half full...Another young girl came by with fresh oatmeal bread (delicious) and we again asked for menus and a wine list..And we waited some more..The waitress finally arrived and asked if we had already been helped...We again asked for a wine list and menus..We got the wine list but evidently there are no menus..She proceeded to tell us the four or five choices. Not having a menu was a big problem for us as two in our party have hearing problems and the waitress had to repeat herself many times. The choices, four I think, were good. The wine list was comprehensive but did not list the vintage year. When one is paying $100 for a bottle of wine that is important..We FINALLY got our drinks and ordered dinner..Things went pretty smoothly after that. Two had the haddock, one the prime rib and I had the rack of lamb..All cooked perfectly and excellent...The bill was about as expected with a couple of surprises..My garlic mashed potatoes, pretty standard for rack of lamb, was $2.50 more and the horseradish sauce for the prime rib (also pretty standard) was a buck..We all thought that was ridiculous after paying $250 for a dinner for four...Bottom line, great food but they nickel and dime you to death and the people who operate the place have no idea how to run a restaurant.

On The Way Cafe

Reviewed By Travelers-R-US-246 - Poland, Maine

Have driven by this diner a number of times but it never was the right time to stop. Decided to make it the destination for our party of six to celebrate our mother's birthday. Lucky for us, while most of the seating is either stools at a counter or booth/table seating for two to four, there was a table for six, and it was empty.

We arrived a few minutes past noon. Surprisingly, the diner was just a third full. The majority of us ordered sandwiches with either onion rings or fries. Portions were appropriate to price. Our mother ordered one of the specials: Turkey dinner (turkey off the bone, stuffing, mashed potato and cranberry sauce) and she ate almost all of it!

Much to our disappointment, dessert offerings were limited to blueberry pie and raisin bread pudding. Those who had them gave them high praise, however.

One deficit: the restaurant is not readily handicapped accessible. My mother (who recently broke a hip and is using a walker) had to negotiate several steps in order to get inside. A simple ramp along the side of the diner would be welcome to older patrons.

I like to stop into Blys. I always get the same thing, but its always awesome, The YardBird. A bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top. I also get their onion rings which are tasty. For starters they have tater tots smothered in bacon and cheese... sooooo goood!

Give Blys a try next time you're in Buckfield or just passing through.

I don't even know where to begin with how horrible this dunkin donuts is. You wait in drive thru well over 20 minutes, food never comes out right. Burnt, sometimes not even the food you had ordered(check your bag before you drive off) Coffee is always always wrong they always have to remake it. And the staff act like they hate their jobs. I never stop here anymore.

Hurricane's Cafe & Deli

Reviewed By Tinslinger - Strongsville, Ohio

We like to find the little 'out-of-the-way' eateries when we travel so we found this place on our iPhone map. Being in Maine, we always get a lobster roll and the Hurricane did NOT disappoint. The lunch lobster roll came with a side and fountain drink. The lobster roll was a good size and the lobster meat was the best. The pickles we different, but good enough to eat. The coleslaw was better than most, and the pasta salad had the 'good' olives. Our toddler granddaughter had a grilled cheese made with the good white American and fit the bill nicely. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful and we were very pleased with the overall experience. We will be happy to return when we're back visiting family in the near future.

We both enjoy the fact that we are never limited by the menu at DaVinci's. My husband likes constructing his own pizza. We both enjoy sharing the antipasto that is not on the menu. It is a little different every time we visit, but always delicious.I like their Piccolo portions and the fact that you can replace pasta with delicate spinach.

We have watched this restaurant go through a couple of changes since it closed as the Chickadee 5 years ago. None have succeeded, but I have feeling this one will. The food is excellent. We've had breakfast several time there and today had our first lunch. My wife had the cranberry chicken salad sandwich with homemade potato salad. I had a burger and fries. Both top notch. My wife, who generally is not a fry eater kept swiping from my plate. Breakfasts there have been plentiful and delicious. And the prices are extremely reasonable considering the amount of food you get. Service is also very good. I would recommend to anyone local or passing through
