Matterhorn Ski Bar

Reviewed By MaineMOM2 - Maine

We visited during prime dinner time during the busy school vacation week, and waited 35 minutes for a table. Luckily, they had a guy playing good tunes on a guitar, which we enjoyed. The overall atmosphere is excellent as well- so much old ski stuff hanging from the walls and rafters. Once we got seated the service was slow. Be prepared for few gluten free options. They do offer gluten free pizza crust, but there is definitely cross contamination. Fries are not gluten free. There are some salads, but if looking for something warm, things are limited. I was going to inquire about the ribs being gluten free, but while waiting for a table I saw two guys have conversations with their server about the ribs and they didn't finish them. Didn't look like a good sign to me. Seems like it's great for burgers and nachos apres ski. If you're looking for a meal there are better options in town.

Roadside PIE STAND! For years I've always kept a look out for this place, my husband thought I imagined it because I do love my pie. We stumbled upon it up on our way to Step Falls. The pie was amazing, to many to chose from if I had more cash on me I would have taken 1 of each. $10 bucks for a full pie on the honor system. We got the Strawberry Rhubarb and it tasted as good as it looked! We will be back someday!

I am an espresso junkie. To find decent espresso on a mountain that isn't $20 a cup is a score so Coffee Hound qualifies as a score. Try the home made mini donuts. They are awfully good.

Authentic Italian food served in an historical setting in an 1868 home. Martini bar, screened in porch and real fireplace. Great for private parties and special occasions.

We were staying in Bethel and there had been a storm the night before so most of the restaurants were closed. Looking at the reviews, it seemed that this restaurant was far grander than we really wanted but we decided to give it ago. It's was certainly not what I would call fine dining, just reasonable Italian food. We both chose the Sunday gravy and got a ridiculously enormous helping - each enough for three people. We couldn't really taking doggy bags because we were staying in a hotel - such a waste.

We had heard good things about this place and we decided to try it for breakfast, we were not disappointed. The pancakes were terrific as was the bacon done to crispy perfection. It is a cute and quaint place just off the Appalachian Trail which adds to the charm. A must for breakfast, generous portions, good service and a comfortable place. we will be back soon!

Super fun in the spring on the deck, but mid winter the entertainment is annoyingly loud. O.K. I'm old, but seriously, for the kiddos how can you have a conversation or meet others when you can't hear yourself think over the band? Bartenders where great.

Brian's

Reviewed By StomWiltshire_UK - Mystic, Connecticut

We visited Brian's whilst skiing at Sunday River.

It was a quiet Monday evening and when we arrived we were greeted warmly by our server, who was extremely pleasant and efficient.

Our food was delicious. My husband had the meatloaf and I had the cod, which was one of the specials for the evening. The fish was perfectly cooked, fresh and flavoursome.

We both enjoyed the ambiance of Brian's and can certainly appreciate why it is so highly rated. Also, the glass that my prosecco was served in was wonderful and an indication that even the smaller details receive attention at this restaurant!

Had take out order to bring back to our room in the Grand Summit Hotel. The specialty burger made from lamb, venison, and bison with a few friend jalapeños was excellent quality though medium sized. The fries with it were good but not exceptional. Overall nice taste though relatively small serving relative to the price ($18). Overall the quality was really good which accounts for the 4/5 rating. In addition, we had the Maine blueberry wings which were really excellent flavor and quality wings.

Stopped in for lunch. Ordered two sandwiches, drinks and chips. The sandwiches were delicious and freshly-made. Great selection of other snack items, drinks, home-made baked goods and many other items. You could do pretty well on a camping trip or with a kitchenette if this was your only store. Will definitely stop here again when in the area.
