Lovely upscale, romantic French restaurant at the end of Ridgewood Ave. with a small municipal parking lot adjacent to it. The food quality is exceptional having been prepared by Chef/ Owner, Michael Latour who is a cut above the average chef. This is a BYO restaurant decorated primarily in white shades.

We love the chicken Philly cheesesteak and Chicken and avocado sandwich. I ask for the special without bread since I'm gluten free. This place is not Celiac friendly so I say this with warning for those with issues with cross contamination. The lunch specials come with a drink, fries, soup and dessert. The waiters and waitresses are attentive. Good neighborhood eat!

Savini's Restaurant

Reviewed By MariaPaps - Wayne, New Jersey

Some people choose restaurants for the food, other people "eat the atmosphere." Savini's offers both--tasty food and lovely atmosphere. I just came home from a work-related holiday dinner and felt compelled to write a review. Our group met up at the bar prior to our 6 pm reservation. I ordered an espresso martini which was served quickly and with a smile. It was delicious. When we were seated for dinner, we started with a variety of appetizers--oysters Rockefeller, eggplant rollatini, calamari, grandma's meatballs, mozzorella caprese, and tortellini in brodo. All the appetizers were delicious, sharing was okay, and service was expediant. A variety of entrees were ordered by the group, including sausage cavatelli, veal parm, ziti bolognese, seafood genovese, rack of lamb, veal milanese and chicken picata. Some entrees looked more appealing than others (a bit too "old school" in the plating, but all were tasty). For example, the sausage was oddly cut into cubes, the picata was plated rather simply with mashed potatoes and green beans/carrots, and the veal milanese did not include the arugula salad; the veal parmesan looked like it had been plated by the local dinner cook, and the seafood although fresh and delicious was also served on plates that looked like they belong on the Jersey boardwalk with a pale blue & coral pink shell motif. If anything should be improved, it would be the plating--something more visually appealing and contemporary would up the overall dining experience, especially with the prices being what they are. Some finesse would elevate the food and complement the atmosphere. Even the bread is basic --something that anyone can buy at the supermarket.

Rocca was hose not for a friends' night out because we actually wanted to have a conversation and unlike some other local Italian restaurants, this isn't too noisy. It's a pleasant dining room, with tables far enough apart for privacy. The menu is interesting. I ordered the cornmeal crusted calamari and hot peppers with a ramekin of hot tomato sauce as a starter it was very nice. My friend had the unusual fired artichoke and olive salad which she really enjoyed. Other salads were ordered as well. For a main course, I ordered the daily special, which was Chicken Marsala, served with mushrooms in the sauce, and mashed potato. The chicken was tender and the potato was good, however the sauce was extremely salty. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I had hoped.

The four of us shared two desserts; the ricotta fritters with raspberry sauce and the mini cannoli. They were both very good but I would say that the ricotta fritters were unexpectedly exceptional.

This restaurant is a BYO, so we brought a few bottles of wine which were graciously opened for us and left to enjoy in a variety of stemware. This always helps the budget, so our meal ended up costing $169 including tip, for four diners. We had a very nice evening. By 9:30pm though. The restaurant was completely empty of customers besides our table. The staff began to set tables for the next day and eventually made it clear that they wanted to close up. We had been there for 2 1/2 hours so I can't say that we were rushed out, but as we were enjoying our evening so much and it wasn't very late, I would have preferred not to have to leave before we wanted to.

Their almonds croissants are incredible as is everything else she creates! Oh, and BTW, the coffee is awesome also.

The Brick House

My Brother setup the reservation for an early lunch for our group celebrating our Mother's Life. We had a small grave side service with many people from out-of-town and wanted a really nice place and we decided upon The Brick House. We had a very nice room downstairs and the buffet lunch had all the Bells-and-Whistles! Fresh carved NY Strip, Salmon, Chicken, Great veggie medley, potatoes. Great bread selection and then the desert and coffee/tea presentation was difficult to decide what we wanted. The praise was from 100% of the guests.
I particularly liked that the staff was fully aware the reason for the luncheon and was perfectly Professional in the comments of condolence.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! (especially after I received the bill including the Bar bill)

We've been here before and were sorely disappointed on our most recent visit. The service was very slow (to the point where it seemed they were short staffed) and the food was average at best. The paella was not good, the char was substandard and the lamb shank lacked flavor. Perhaps the tapas are the way to go here but for these prices I will be going elsewhere. #epicrestaurantfail

Van Dyke Ice Cream

Reviewed By LWL3333 - Ridgewood, New Jersey

Tonight after dinner we went to Van Dyke's and got on line with oldsters and teens and families and singles to get some of the best ice cream we have found in more than 40 years of living in Northern New Jersey. I had strawberry chocolate chip with chocolate sprinkles, and my wife had capacino chocolate chip with chocolate sprinkles, As always we both loved our choices. We have probably seen several hundred young teens pass through the Van Dyke's hand serving of ice cream in cones and cups behind the counter. We love this place, even if it is a bit dated and hasn't changed since we first started going there in the '70's. the choice of flavors available here is huge and delicious.
