We can stay at many hotels between the Charlotte Airport and Blacksburg, Virginia when we come from Dallas for a Virginia Tech football game. We chose the Hampton Inn in Fort Chiswell after reading reviews of Key Ingredients, Fort Chiswell Mansion. We were very impressed. Nice wine. I ordered the Sirloin Steak and one of my sides was the onion relish. My wife ordered the blackened Salmon. Both were excellent and the bread pudding desert was extraordinary.
We now have a restaurant to look forward to when we travel to Blacksburg for a football game.

The restaurant is located in the Bolling Wilson Hotel. After a long day of driving this restaurant and hotel were a welcome treat. The menu offered a varied selection and the quality outstanding. I had crab cakes and my husband a pork chop, both delicious. The service was attentive and unhurried. Our tea was served hot with variety of tea choices. We have eaten at Graze on Main twice while traveling from FL to PA. Highly recommend.

Cracker Barrel

Reviewed By Mountaineer4ever - Covington, Georgia

On almost every driving trip through the Mid-Atlantic and Southern states we stop at Cracker Barrel. The food is basic, but dependable and a decent value. This one was disappointing. Even though our server had 2 stars, he seemed very new. He got one order wrong and brought another on a noticeably dirty plate. After two plates were sent back, the manager came by to ask if everything was ok. We told him what was wrong and he simply said, "I noticed there was a thumbprint on the plate." and asked if he could do anything for us. No apology, no offer to comp anything... Not up to standard.

We stop here whenever we are on I 77 in VA which is about 20 times a year! Have never gotten a welcome, friendly smile, or thank you! We love Blizzards and gas is usually cheaper than any place around so we will continue to stop! How much effort would it take for the staff to greet the customers with a hello and a smile?

Happy Cinco de Mayo Mexican Grill

Reviewed By CenFLGuy - Saint Cloud, Florida

Myself and my mom ate at this place while spending the night at a nearby hotel. It was late at night but we were seated and served quickly. I noticed many of the dishes cost an unusually low price like fajitas and jumbo burritos. I ordered a jumbo burrito and when it came, I noticed why it was so cheap. Instead of melted cheese, they top their burrito with cheese sauce. The burrito had an unpleasantly cheesy taste. The toppings weren't seasoned enough to contrast the cheese taste. I mitigated the cheese taste by pouring the salsa and hot sauce. The waitress did comp my mom's margarita after telling her there's no margaritas only to find the bartender made more 15 minutes later so that's why I rate this place a three instead of a two or one.

The Log House 1776 Restaurant

Reviewed By MikeE73 - Buffalo, New York

This place is worth a stop just to see the building....err......buildings. It is actually several buildings connected together either directly or by short passageways. There are a couple of dozen small nooks and crannies with either several tables for group dining or small cubby holes with a single table for an intimate encounter. The walls are the original exposed logs of the buildings and decor is pleasing eclectic. There are even two shops on the grounds, both of which have a distinctly Big Sur ambiance. And the back garden is, again, a mirror of Big Sur nonchalance.

The food was basic and filling with a few unique dishes such as "Confederate Beef Stew" which actually has very little gravy but a lot of flavor. Steaks are VERY reasonably priced (16 oz. rib eye was $23.99 the night we visited) and are so tender that one pass of the knife would cut all the way through and all the way across the meat with NO sawing.

The only down tick was the vegetables. The green beans were well seasoned but slightly undercooked, which was just the opposite of the broccoli on both counts.

But, having aid that, I would not hesitate to stop by again when I go though the area. It is a unique dining experience and a great place to take friends.

This was another excellent Denny's stop on our way south. I'm used to free standing Denny's so finding this one attached to a gas station travel market confused me at first. Food and service were really excellent. Denny's is always a good value. This one was particularly good.

Nice little place with good, healthy selections.
We were driving I-81 and was tired of the places along side of I-81.
Looked at Tripadvisor and decided to take a chance.
Excellent little place, friendly, busy with local clientele, tasty, very clean, places to sit, and fun gelato place next door for a treat. The town is interesting as well.
Sandwiches and such for lunch. Nice variety.
A mile off the main road.
Not room for buses.
I would recommend.

We were so happy for Taso to return tothe area and bring back the seafood! When he first opened, the food was excellent with large portions and everything was consistently good! Now several months after opening, the food is not consistently good...shrimp are overdone..flat and no taste...potatoes are sometimes cold and esp with takeout someone's order is always wrong! Please bring back your original cooks so that the only thing we fuss about is trying to find a parking place...waitresses are all good!

The Mansion

Reviewed By bobrock96 - Brunswick, Ohio

Awesome hidden gems. Very cool history about the mansion. Take the tour, learn some history for yourself or kids. As far as the food, great. The owner actually lives here and is the chef. The food was tasty, especially the steaks and hamburgers. All the sides where great too. Our servers Becks and Taylor worked great together. So if your in the area of layover from a southern vacation, stop and check it out. Well worth it.....
