The Golden Lamb Restaurant

The Golden Lamb is recognized as the oldest continuously operating business in the State of Ohio. On December 23, 1803, Jonas Seaman spent $4 for a license to operate a "house of Public Entertainment." The Golden Lamb got its name due to the fact that many early pioneers could not read, so giving a business a name that could be easily drawn and recognized, such as the Black Horse or Golden Lamb, was a necessity. The brick building where the Golden Lamb moved to and currently resides was built in 1815. The original building was a two story structure located where our lobby area and Dickens dining room currently stand. In 1844 a third story was added. Shortly after, in 1854 a three story wing was added which is where our Shaker and Buckeye room dining rooms currently stand. In 1878, a fourth story was added to accomodate the workers who would bring the railroad to Lebanon. The gift shop and Black Horse Tavern were added to the structure in 1964.The Golden Lamb was visited by so many prominent guests in the early 1800's because it was located halfway between Cincinnati and the National Road (U.S. 40). Robert H. Jones' ownership of the property beginning in 1926 marked the transformation of the old hotel into the great attraction and marvelous restaurant it is today. Under their guidance, the inn's great reputation became well known throughout the country. Their ownership also marked the restoration of the hotel to its original name, The Golden Lamb.

This is a quaint restaurant that has had many historic visitors including presidents that have stayed the night. The food is very period but there is a good selection. There's a huge gift shop for a restaurant. It is decorated lovely for Christmas and it is on a street amidst lots of small gift shops.

I always thought it was just an Ice Cream place. When I visited in June with another couple we had a meal first that was really good. Of course, we had ice cream later. Great menu.

Whit's Frozen Custard

Reviewed By Atreides - Ohio, USA

We finally seized an opportunity to try Whit’s; a unit of the regional frozen custard chain. We headed to their storefront location in downtown Lebanon, Ohio. It was good. Not spectacular, but still more than satisfying.

We arrived about 45 minutes before closing on a cool Saturday evening, and Whit’s was still receiving a steady flow of patrons. Their single table and a few counter stools were all filled with folks further along in the frozen treat process than we. It only took a few minutes to arrive at the counter, where we ordered two-scoop dishes ($4.50 each) of their “Flavor of the Day” and “Flavor of the Week:” Fudge Brownie and Mud Pie, respectively. With no seats available, and the weather a bit chilly for Mrs. A’s tastes, we opted to eat in the (rather cramped0 confines of the car.

The frozen custard was more than satisfying to my sweet tooth; in fact, getting a single scoop would have been fine. That said, the flavors and texture felt just a bit “off.” In the Fudge Brownie mix, the various ingredients were not evenly distributed, and the brownie bits felt a bit gritty in the mouth. The next time, we will have to instead try one of Whit’s two “straight” flavors: vanilla or chocolate.

There is little question that Whit’s makes a great treat on a warm summer day. Their frozen custard is nothing fancy, but doesn’t pretend to be. We will definitely pay them another visit, and report back on that experience to see if they can be pushed from a rating of four to five.

My wife and I gave the Acapulco a try for lunch today. This is authentic Mexican food and it's delicious! The service was excellent and the food was also fast. They provided chips and salsa upon being seated and the chips were fresh and not from a bag. The owner or manager had stopped by our table near the end of our meal just to confirm that we were satisfied and that we didn't need anything, which shows the true care that they have for your satisfaction with the meal. Excellent!

Flavors Eatery

Reviewed By TravelLovrs - Loveland, Ohio

We were in the Lebanon, Ohio area and checked out TripAdvisor for something besides fast food for lunch. This small restaurant on the main street has limited seating inside, but a nice patio by the busy street outside (not for people with little kids!) and a nicer patio in the back. The chairs and tables were an eclectic mix of chairs and tables. Pick up a menu and check out the amazing variety of wraps, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Order, and they will bring it out to you, customized to your specifications. We opted for the Greek wrap without cheese (allergies), sauce on the side. The wrap was enormous, filled with chicken, cabbage, spinach, and a little red apple mixed in for sweetness. The service was fast, even though they were busy. The owners seemed vested in providing a great experience helping out the waitress, refilling drinks, and asking if everything was ok. The wrap also came with some really good homemade salsa and a few tortilla chips. The only downside for this little restaurant was the unbelievably noisy blender used to make smoothies or drinks. Maybe put it in another room or add a muffler. It really detracts from the charming atmosphere!

Houston's

Houston's is a 70's supper club that never moved into the 2000. But maybe that is the charm of the place. Last time I went the menu was 5 or 6 pages. This time 2. Maybe 2 dozen items.
The food lacked any depth of flavor. I have special dietary needs and can not even make it through a kids meal. Don't even think of a special request.

Royce Cafe and Coffee

Seating in the restaurant is very limited, especially if there is any size to your group. Entered at 1:00 this afternoon with 6 other family members. There are a couple round tables that probably can seat 5 people and a few small rectangular ones that will fairly well accomodate a couple. After waiting about 15 minutes it was apparent that we were not going to get seated as a group. No knock on the food as everyone seemed to be enjoying appealing looking dishes - just be sure your gathering is small.

Taste of India

Reviewed By TravelLovrs - Loveland, Ohio

We were in the Lebanon area and decided to try this small restaurant off the main street. The decor was attractive, and a TV was playing the latest Bollywood romantic/drama/musical with singing and dancing. Better than a sports channel, to be sure!

Because of my numerous allergies, I asked our waitress which things on the buffet (probably 30-40 items) would be "safe" for me to eat. The waitress was willing to go through the entire buffet and explain which things were ok. If she didn't know, she asked. It took her a good five minutes, but she was amazingly patient, cheerful, and helpful.

We decided on the buffet--love to try a lot of different things! There was a green salad, tandoori chicken, a potato and eggplant dish, vegetarian curries, rice, several kinds of bread, pickles, yogurt, melon, and dessert, to name just some of the selections. Although the food was very tasty, most seemed a little too greasy for my palate.

The menu is extensive with probably over 100 selections. Prices range from $2-3 for bread to a top price of less than $20 for mixed clay oven grilled foods.

If you're in the area, the lunch buffet is a great deal, $9 without a drink, plus tip. Just pick and choose your favorites and be aware that many selections are fried.
