Jasper is a city and the county seat of Jasper County, Texas, in the United States. The population was 8,247 at the 2000 census and 7,590 at the 2010 census. Jasper is situated in the Deep East Texas subregion, about 130 miles (210 km) northeast of Houston. Jasper (the "Butterfly Capital of Texas") holds an annual Butterfly Festival the first Saturday in October to celebrate the migration of the monarch butterflies.

We don't live locally but needed to drive an hour to Jasper for something. In the debate of where to eat, my wife checked out reviews and found Hamburger Depot. Glad she did. Good, old fashioned burgers. Huge, juicy, homemade patties loaded with about anything you could want on a burger. We both ordered the full sized burgers, and shared a side order of chili cheese fries, regretting it for the amount of food we forced upon ourselves. This is one of those rare places you're completely ok with making an hour drive for no other reason than the food, and we surely will do it in the future.

We stopped on the way back from a trip to South Texas. The food was similar to all Dairy Queens. Service was good and bathrooms were clean.

Loved this little whole in the wall place for donuts. We were with the kids and they never have negative things to say about sugar covered fried dough. These were particularly good and open early.

We were on our way through between East Texas and New Orleans. Seeing lots of positive reviews, we decided to try Cedar Tree. We tried the fried catfish, popcorn shrimp and chicken fried shrimp fingers. Everything was good. The restaurant was clean, and it was super busy. Despite the crowd, we were seated very quickly. Our waitress was efficient. Overall, I would recommend.

We ordered the sliced beef with sides of twice baked potatoes (with bits of jalapenos) and bbq beans. Unfortunately we noticed after getting the plate it didn't say the beef was smoked. They had smoked sausage, chicken and Turkey.
The portions were large enough that we had some beef left. The barbecue sauce must have had some smoke flavor in it.

We go to this restaurant sometimes twice a week. Good fast food, good service even late at night. Our church group goes there often after services are over at night. Great hangout for the retired early in the mornings. Free senior coffee! Also your receipt has a survey on it which is very handy if you are on a budget. Complete the survey online and you can get a free, yes free whataburger when you order a drink and fries. Worth the time to complete. Each customer must have their own completed survey in hand. Easy access, clean atmosphere, kid and adult friendly, plenty of seating, good prices and...don't FORGET THE SURVEY!!!!

We ordered the mixed chicken and beef nachos. There was a layer of refried beans then chips then another layer of refried beans and then the toppings. The meat was so small and sprinkled over the chips that I couldn't even taste it. Just beans that saturated the chips and they were soggy. The salsa that was served with the chips was very tomato pasty. The employees were super nice and great service. The place was clean.

This is a picturesque old hotel (circa 1910) that operates as a bed and breakfast. I haven't stayed there overnight; but their local claim to fame is lunch. The dining room is open to the public for lunch Monday thru Friday. Check out the weekly lunch-special menus at www.belle-jim.com. You can also order off the menu (soup, salads, sandwiches.) If you order the lunch special the service is lightning fast. The desserts are delicious! The food is "home-cooking" style.
