Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza

Reviewed By Wendy S - Greenwood, Indiana, United States

Finally got around to trying this local pizza place, after seeing the crowds there every weekend in the summer. The interior is large, if a bit bare bones (concrete floor, wood tables, nothing fancy) but they also have a ton of art on the walls (for sale) by what I believe are probably local artists. So that was interesting. One smallish tv in the "bar" area (they serve wine and beer). We came when it was snowing out so we got seated right away since the place was pretty much empty.
We started with breadsticks (6) which came with a choice of 2 dipping sauces. We got nacho cheese (typical, from the jar kind of stuff) and a creamy garlic Parmesan concoction that, while it had sort of a strange texture to it, was really good when you dipped the hot bread in to it! Very generous portion of dipping sauce, and the sticks were good, though they were pretty typical for ones you might find in the bakery section of a grocery store. Without the sauce they were nothing spectacular (fresh and warm, with the sauce though....yum!).
At the waiters suggestion, we tried a half and half pizza, half of two of their specialty pies. They seemed to have a ton of choices for the make your own pizza stuff. Lots of different cheese choices, sauce selection was impressive, as were the different toppings to choose from. I was sad they didn't have a "burger sauce" option (which is kind of like thousand island, or McD's secret sauce), which I love as a hamburger pizza. We settled on half a Maui pie (pineapple, bacon, onions, green peppers) and half of a Cheese Louise (like 5 different types of cheese, plus onion and bacon). Both were quite tasty and toppings are generously applied! Fantastic! Lots of cheese on both, lots of bacon on both. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be a thin crust pizza, or they just make their crust very thin, but that is what we are calling it.....thin crust pizza. While I enjoy thin crust on an appetizer type pizza, I am not really a fan of it for a dinner choice. That's really why I didn't give it 5 stars.
To be honest, even with all the toppings and cheese it was a bit.....disappointing, flavor wise. Other than the crust, I can't pinpoint why we found it just "good" not great. We're glad we finally tried it, and I do love the different choices in cheese and topping selections, but I can't see making a trip there again, not when there are better options (Brozzini's comes to mind) for pizza with a thinner crust. It kind of reminded me of the pizzas my kids used to make at home on "make your own pizza" nights. Good, but not spectacular.
Service was very good, quick soda refills (always a plus lol), waiter was helpful when trying to decide what to try, and prices are reasonable.

Stone Creek is typically a good option for us on a regular basis. Guess tonight was one of those rare nights where everything was off.

Starting off our server was a space case. And to think she was training a new person. Got order of things messed up. I ordered a salad and the shot rib potstickers as my meal. I requested them together. Was brought out as appetizer. They took it back but when it cam back with the salad they looked like they just popped them back in the pan to heat them up. They were burnt so bad on one side I sent them back. Of the one I could partially eat tasted really good.

The Ahi portion served was small and on the side of not fresh. I really dislike on edge raw fish.

Salad greens had some yellow wilting on the edges. I hate that. Basic from a bag. Place trying to be a class act will serve fresh stuff all the time regardless if it comes from a bag.

Two others had the meatloaf. Spicy but real potential here. Would have been great if not so dry.

Waited and waited all night. Management worked to make it right. And apologized !
Class act in this regard.

Set in a historical building in Greenwood's small town downtown, this restaurant features a varying menu that changes according to the availability of local seasonal ingredients. I invited my family from the northside early this summer, and the menu choices did not disappoint.

The poutine, while by no means a healthy option, is probably the highlight. Most of their other dishes at the time tended towards the lighter side (either lower in fat or lower in carbs). I also learned that corn sprouts, are in fact, edible.

If you're on the southside and need to take your family or a date out, this is one of the few local eateries that can compare to the restaurant quality downtown Indy has. Strongly recommended for south siders who don't want to drive 10-15 miles to get top notch food.

Well in all honesty, BJs is definitely not going to be known for Prime Rib. The flavor was not particularly remarkable and the meat quality average. Service in the bar this evening was awful. We had the gal I call Olive Oil who reminds me of the Popeye cartoon character. She’s been here several years and consistently an air head. She didn’t check back on us until we half done and finally got the ah juice for the prime rib 3/4 way through the meal.

Salad greens were on the edge of acceptable. Dry, yellow with little green color.

On the high side the up charge turmeric cauliflower is excellent as well as the green beans. It’s nice and relaxing in the bar with huge TVs.

Back after a long hiatus. Opted for the Norwegian Salmon with lump crab on top. Like that it is wild caught rather than farmed. Farmed fish are fed grains which like livestock makes the meat unhealthy. One thing that is always consistent is quality service. Wife had her usual which is the house salad with grilled chicken which has outstanding flavor. They have one of the best salads going with a signature dressing.

Although the salmon is good, it’s not better than O Charlie’s cedar plank wild caught salmon which is larger and a better price.

Can’t say that they ever get the side items cooked well done which little disappointing. Outstanding bread to go along with the salad.

Nice cosy place, with a lot of wines, and I mean a lot!! The best thing is of course that a wide variety of good wines is available. I did not have the chance to taste the food, only the goat cheese cake. But the wines I had were exquisite! We had a marvelous time with colleagues that did enjoy dinner here. Certainly recommend this place to try it out!
