Most Popular Restaurants in Freeland

Freeland is a census-designated place (CDP) on Whidbey Island in Island County, Washington, United States. At the time of the 2010 census the population was 2,045. The town received its name based on its origins as a socialist commune in the early 1900s—. Literally, in the eyes of its founders, the land of the town was to be free for all people. Some of the first settlers were veterans of a prior experiment in socialism, the nearby Equality Colony.

Gordon's on Blueberry Hill

Gordon has his hand on every plate. They're always well prepared, delicious and served with a flair only the island delivers. Gordon's delivers what Seattle does without being snooty or pretentious. Great value, as prices are the same as Prima Bistro in Langley and other "better" island restaurants. However, I think Gordon's over delivers.

This sort is where work gets done. Yep. there is free wifi, being that Whidbey Tel is right there. The bonus is that they offer some fantastic treats, salads and sandwiches. No, they don't offer hemp milk for lattes, but do offer almond, coconut or soy as milk alternatives. A Starbucks move, which takes them off my favorites list.

We enjoyed every aspect of our dinner at Orchard Kitchen. The family and staff are warm, professional and attentive, the food is delicious and made with quality ingredients, skill and love. The wine pairings were tasty and interesting. I'm generally ambivalent about communal seating, but it worked fine for our small group in this convivial setting.

Don't let the trailer deter you... Good burgers, nice people who are obviously having a good time. They are always packed, which is an obvious sign. Since I live nearby, this is a good place to grab a reasonably quick lunch - but this is not fast food.

This drive by coffee stop has more than just coffee, but the Java is the reason my wife always has me pull over when we're driving by (usually after a stop at the grocery store). The ladies who work there are super friendly. You'll like them and their coffee (and muffins, breakfast sandwiches, etc.).

Roaming Radish

My wife and I celebrated a recent wedding anniversary here and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We hade been to R2 before in their old location in Freeland, this was better.

When you walk in you are enthusiastically greeted as if you were long lost friends. The space is open with plenty of room between tables which can be easily moved to accommodate larger groups. The wall behind the bar has some interesting objects worth noting.

The drinks of the day were interesting but my wife wanted a variation on a ginger mojito, after some suggestions the hostess was off to the garden to pick some mint for our drinks. Delicious.

I had the fried tofu dish with several freshly cooked vegetables including a fantastic quick fried broccolini. Several mildly pickled vegetables were also in the dish, all over sticky rice. My wife had a large portion of pulled brisket.

Service remained friendly throughout.

It’s a great treasure for the island and we will be back many more times.

If you're in the mood for Chinese food, this is a pretty good place, even though it's probably your only choice in South Whidbey. Comfortable booths. Their hot & sour soup is excellent. I think it's worth it to eat here just for the soup, but I like to order it "to go" as the temperature wasn't quite hot enough for me when I ate there. We always get the sea bass in black bean sauce and it contains lots of veggies. If you like your food on the spicier side, I recommend asking them to make it spicer. The first time, it was good, but too bland for us. The next time we ordered it the most spicy (#9) and it was too hot for me. Had it at #6 and it was just right for us. But just a warning, if you order it more spicy, the sauce seems more Szechuan than black bean. Not a fan of their fried rice - very bland. Just grateful there's a place for Chinese food that's not too far away.

This place is unique. It is loud, tons of regulars, old fashioned seating, busy, great coffee, high prices but worth it. At times it is just so loud but that is what many people like about it. It is always fun and worth a trip even for just coffee.

I wasn't expecting anything special when I stopped for coffee. My nose picked up on the fact that I was someplace extra special before I could even focus on the counter. The baked goods smelled fantastic, and there were many options. I couldn't resist the frittata. I tried the meat option (exceptional), but there was a vegetarian option as well. I think I ordered one of everything on my way out the door. The proprietor was attentive and runs a first-rate little establishment. I highly recommend stopping if you are passing through this area.
