Colfax (formerly, Alden Grove, Alder Grove, Illinoistown, and Upper Corral) is a city in Placer County, California, at the crossroads of Interstate 80 and State Route 174. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,963 at the 2010 census. The town is named in honor of U.S. Vice President Schuyler Colfax (1869–73), a bronze statue of whom stands at Railroad Street and Grass Valley Street. (This is the only known statue of Schuyler Colfax in the United States). Some of the town's notable features include the newly restored Southern Pacific Railroad colonnade-style depot (which houses the Colfax Museum and Chamber of Commerce) built in 1905, the downtown shops on Main Street, and Colfax High School, which serves a large surrounding area.

Stop here every time we go to Tahoe. Easy freeway access on/off. Cozy dining room, dog friendly outside deck (and they serve your dog water right away!), and fun pub. Super selections of beers.
All the food is fresh, wholesome, hearty portions. I don't care if it is breakfast or lunch, they constantly score high, and the service is warm and friendly. The menu has absolutely something for everyone, and today our cobb salad and tuna melt special were quickly consumed.
The décor is mostly rough wood and gold country antiques.
Definitely make this a stop!!!

Starbucks

Reviewed By James C - Atlanta, Georgia

This is a busy interstate highway location going into and out of the Sierra's. Parking is difficult due to positioning of the drive thru lane. The building is large but only two restrooms which are very busy. The line and drink preparation were both slow and the staff harried by the line itself. Drinks as usual were properly made and tasty. As with most Starbucks not all varieties of the non drink food and packaged food are available and that is irritating if you are looking for a favored treat.

Stopped for lunch while up in the area. Food was great, hummus on veggie sandwich made the meal. Portions are very generous. It is a type of place you wished was around the corner from your house.

TJ's Roadhouse

Reviewed By Kate B - San Francisco, California

...This is the place! We pulled off Highway 80 and stopped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast before leaving for home after a long weekend. The plates themselves are huge, and they were filled with the entrees. The menu has egg, bacon, pancake, waffle, omelet standards - all served with potatoes, toast etc. In case that isn't enough, you can also get chicken fried steak or a pork chop with your eggs! The food was delicious and reasonably priced (we especially liked the TJ's Scramble which we had with a good marble rye toast), along with good coffee and ice tea. The crowd was a mix of dressed-for-church folks and guys in t-shirts who arrived in trucks. Needless to say, we didn't need to stop for lunch on the way home - and there were still leftovers! We didn't notice the somewhat creepy right wing signs until our way out. Other than that, the service was very friendly and efficient.

The food here was delicious, unbelievably so. Of course the pizzas are wonderful but we also ordered the month's special, meatballs. They were just like Nona made. The price for such excellence is great. My only regret is that this restaurant is not located where I live.

Beach Hut Deli

Reviewed By Chris B - Colfax, California, United States

Very bright and cheery and clean and pleasant atmosphere. Pretty good selection of craft beer. Nice people. Small place. This is a fancy sandwich kinda place but they do have salads. The sandwiches are loaded with lots of stuff. So much stuff that you may want to ask them to hold off on some of the items. For my taste they tend to be over the top. The pastrami is like chopped and formed with not much taste - the least favorite that I've ever had. They did have BBQ tri-tip one day and it was delicious. I think the sandwich rolls are baked on site and are very nice. So this place can be a very pleasant dining experience if you are lucky and do it right. I'm glad they are in town and will continue to dine here.

There is a Starbucks not to far from Buzz Thru Joe's but we opted for the little local coffee shop and were very glad we did. The lattes we ordered were great and I would have given them an excellent if the barista had been a little friendlier, to me the barista is part of the coffee experience and this one was lacking in people skills!

My husband and I went here for lunch. I'm glad we gave this place a try. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza and a soda. The pizza was good! They don't skimp on toppings, sauce was tasty and crust was thin it was a good pizza for the price. The restaurant was clean, plenty of seating and arcade games too! They do have a salad bar, which looked good but I didn't try it this time. We will definitely be back in soon.

Food, family, fun. Peace. Love. Tacos.

Reviewed By JackieHF - Fairfax, California

My husband and I stopped at Homie Joe's yesterday for lunch. We both ordered 2 hook up tacos with meat and between us tried all the salsas. The food was quite good. It tasted fresh and clean, not heavy or greasy at all. The spicy salsa was medium-spicy. The mango salsa was very good with the chicken. The menu was simple, there is a small variety of drinks available. I think vegetarians could substitute beans/rice for the meat. The people are really nice. There were games for people to play which I thought was a nice touch. We will stop there again when we drive I-80 to and from the mountains.
