Armenta's Restaurant

Armenta's was recommended to us by the clerk at our hotel and also a guest staying there who had eaten there many times. The restaurant has been open since 1983 so they must be doing something right! My husband and I had dinner there with 4 other couples and everyone enjoyed their meals. My husband had the Tampico Burrito and I had a Shredded Chicken Chimichanga - both very good. Portions were large and prices were reasonable. Our server, Matthew, was attentive and kept the cold beer coming. For dessert, they have a help-yourself soft ice cream machine which was very popular or you can order dessert off the menu. If you are looking for a place to hold a large event, they have a separate building where they can cater.

Wolf's Hamburger

You would probably not stop here if you didn't know about it. It is a storefront surrounded by a few other businesses and does not stand out. When you enter, there is a large menu on the wall and you order at the counter. It was crowded for lunch with both laborers and office workers. They serve burgers and sandwiches, fries, onion rings, etc. The burgers are large and tasty. If that is what you are after, you will be satisfied.

We love this place, the drinks are sooo good!! Recommend the margarita sangria and the Blue Moon on draft. Our server was Arturo. He knew the menu by heart, had great recommendations. Chips and 2 kinds of salsa were great. I had the beef enchilada dinner half portion and hubby had the enchilada's al carbon with charro beans. Plenty of food, hot and delicious on a very cold night. Good service at a great little neighborhood restaurant.

Captain Tom's Seafood and Oyster

How can you go wrong eating in a boat in the middle of Houston? The seafood there is amazing. Love love the gumbo. it is full of seafood and the taste is fantastic. I often eat there and take more home. Oysters are shucked as you order them. The fried shrimp and crawfish are made to order. I grant you that it is not the cheapest place but I do think you get what you pay for here. Every time we go to Houston we absolutely stop there at least once. It is always crowded when we go. On the way out you tell them what you ate. They either have a great memory or there is a lot of trust. Would absolutely recommend that you make the effort to visit one of the boats. Enjoy.

We were traveling back from Florida and stopped in for some lunch. Walked in the door and the smell of cigarette smoke hit me. It is one open building and nothing officially separates smoking from non. So no matter where you get, it is going to smell. The place looked pretty clean and we were seated. Someone took our drink order and received them pretty quick. However we had to get another water because the glass had something in it. Ordered the chicken fried steak and the club sandwich. I must say it was very tasty. Hand battered steak with seasoning. Very big. The club had plenty of meat and cheese on it. Homemade onion rings were great too. Waitress forgot a couple of sides and we had to remind her. But were brought out right away. Overall it was a.good place but the several negatives make me only give it 3.

TONY's Barbecue

Reviewed By sheel23

We've lived in Channelview, immediately east of Houston, since 2008 and came upon Tony's BBQ by accident. Two days after hurricane Ike, we still had no power and were tired of canned food. We drove around to see if any restaurants were open. Nothing was open for 5 miles, then we saw the Tony's BBQ sign and cars in the dirt/gravel parking lot. We never knew this hidden treasure was there prior and we're so glad we found something so good, so close to home. I no longer like other bbq places because I compare them to Tony's. Their chopped beef sandwiches are my favorite, flavorful and fresh. The baked potatoes are large and come with all the toppings unless you specify. I can only finish one because of my love of baked potatoes. Their steaks are juicy, tender and so flavorful that no steak sauce is needed. Not to mention, the staff is always pleasant and welcoming. In reality, there's no way to make you like this place unless you pay it a visit. This family of 5 is happy to have a regular, go to bbq spot.
