There aren't many choices for dinner in Carbondale but if you find yourself there Amber's is the best in terms of food and service. I had the T-bone steak which was prepared exactly as I ordered. In addition the bartender did a very good job with the cocktails and there is a good selection.

Frank's Place Restaurant and Bar

Reviewed By Marion D - Scott Township, PA

We heard about Frank's Place through word of mouth. At first we had a hard time finding it, but with some directions from "locals" we got there and now we know the way by heart.
Just as friends have told us, Frank's serves large portions of homestyle food at reasonable prices. Everything we've tried so far has been very good and well-prepared. My husband is fussy about Italian food and he really likes all the entrees he's eaten here.
We usually go for a Sunday afternoon dinner and it's always busy, which is a good sign. Yes, it can be loud at times, but in a good way. Diners are talking, laughing, and enjoying themselves -- that's what people do when they're having a good meal. I'd be worried if it was too quiet!

The waitstaff is friendly and helpful, but not pushy. The desserts are delicious, too -- if you still have room after a hearty meal. The bar has a sufficient selection of drinks and can satisfy most any request. We always feel welcome and are greeted when we arrive and acknowledged when we leave.

Frank's Place has become one of our "go to" places to eat and we're glad to add it to our list of favorite area restaurants.

Though DD's is a franchise, this DD stands out for their friendly and efficient service. Whether using the drive-thru or going inside, it is consistently good. The staff are friendly and the service is fast. And needless to say, the coffee is GRRRREAT! :-) The only down-side is the often packed parking lot and long and, at times, traffic blocking drive-thru.

This was our 3rd time in 3 weeks that we stopped for dinner during our visit with family. We really enjoyed our meals each time. We had excellent service and the entrees, sides and desserts were very tasty. Everything was wonderful and when we travel up home we will definitely stop here again.

Mc Donnell's Restaurant

Reviewed By BigCityCowboy - San Diego, California

We stayed at the Carbondale-grand-hotel next door, this restaurant is only steps away. It's a unique find, very old fashioned with lots of wood furnishings, big game trophies on the walls and an excellent traditional menu.
We had the NY strip and Veal Cutlet Parmigiana. The steak was good (not Ruth-Chris good but still pretty good) and the veal was 5-Star good. The bread was fresh out of the oven, super soft and warm. The beet salad was excellent.
You won't find friendlier service anywhere. The experience was very pleasant, I would go back anytime I return to Carbondale. This restaurant is a treasure that needs to be preserved, unfortunately not many of those places are left in this corporate-chain world.
