Roma's Pizza

I've been to Roma's many times. Went with a friend. It is best to get there before 4 or 430pm on Friday as it gets pretty busy. I had the large salad & toasted ravioli. Both were very good & had to bring half of salad home. Waitress checked on us frequently. Food is always great. By the time we left the dining area was super busy. I've had the pizza in past & is always good. I occasionally get spaghetti & meatballs & always like their meatballs.

Wittmond Hotel Restaurant

Reviewed By David W - Tulsa, Oklahoma

My wife and I and another couple planned a trip to Pere Marquette State Park several months ago. We love Pere Marquette and the surrounding area...but the one single caveat to making this trip was we MUST have at least one meal at the Wittmond Hotel Restaurant. This week, we made our trek to Pere Marquette. We checked into the Pere Marquette, deposited our belongings into our room, and quickly got into our car and headed to the Wittmond. Part of the charm and adventure from Pere Marquette to the Wittmond is that in order to get there, one must drive 3-4 miles South of the Pere Marquette to a Free Ferry across the Illinois River...once across the River...drive about 10 miles to the historic Wittmond Hotel Restaurant in Bussells, Il. The Wittmond is no longer a hotel, but a wonderful all you can eat "Family Style Restaurant." The food is wonderfully prepared good old American style comfort food that was the norm of what was the mid-West, "Sunday Dinner"...after church, families (Family/aunts/uncles/cousins/elders/etc all came together and collectively cooked the Sunday Dinner... the tradition is still alive and well at the Wittmond Hotel and Restaurant. Once you sit down, you have a relish tray...which includes my favorite...corn relish, plus spiced apples, carrots, celery, pickeled beets...a wonderful peach jam...with homemade rolls (of course)...along with applesauce, chicken noodle soup, cole slaw, and a polish style sausage platter. OK...that is the start...and oh my, the rest is amazing! The main dishes..."old fashioned" chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, pot roast, delicious fried chicken, plus corn and green beans. The place is wonderful...and a "hidden gem" worth finding! Please note, I am not even mentioning dessert...they have (from what I have been told) fantastic and delicious desserts. I have been to the Wittmond several times, and on every occassion, when the waitress asks if we have room for dessert...not one person that I have ever been with...ever...has said "NO!" So, I am not sure what their dessert menu even consists of. Will I go back...absolutely...the Wittmond is on my "must do again list!"

I went there because a local church was having a fund raiser. Even though they were crowded, they handled things efficiently. They did forget the cheese on my grandboy's cheeseburger. But, everything else was perfect. They have good food for the price. A+

We stopped for dinner, what a pleasant surprise!. The chicken fajitas were very good and so were the steak tacos. Service was also good. Average Margaritas but a very nice atmosphere and good prices.
We were full and skipped desert.
Will be back on my next trip to East Alton

The Pump House Bar & Grill

Had no idea there was such a nice place in the wood river area! I live 45 minutes away and actually plan on returning just so I can go again. Two huge bars in different rooms and great atmosphere. Was crowded on my visit but with sitting at the bar we had good service. Great selection of drafts and food was all good. They had a nice setup for bands in the back room but none when I was there on a week night.

Doesn't look like much. The seating is a bit drab as is the outside of the building. I get carryout only. The ribs are the best around and the rest is just as good. Prices are good too.

We stopped at Geno's 140 Club in Bethalto Sunday evening and again had great food. My friend had a steak and said it was excellent - cooked right & great flavor but next time he's going to get mashed potatoes to go with the au jus - while I had the tortellini (also good) and mom had vegetable soup and the chicken fried chicken special. We ate on the deck which we enjoy doing in the summer (smoking is allowed just not next to the door) & had great service. Actually, two or three different servers stopped by to make sure we had drink orders taken before our waitress came up. Generally our go-to place in Bethalto.

Lunch with a few friends at St. Louis Regional Airport in East Alton/Bethalto. Restaurant has great views of runway and facilities, unfortunately not a lot of air traffic at this airport. A bit above average food, atmosphere average - nothing fancy here, but nothing terrible either. Buffet available for a very reasonable price. Service was very good - very friendly. Large beer selection including quite a few craft beers. Not a large place, but was very crowded the day we were there. Nice place for workers at the airport and many surrounding businesses. Overall, would recommend, especially for locals.

Went to the open, outdoor section for a few beers. Been here before during the day and service is good usually. The same as in this area, the bartenders/waitstaff serve efficiently but hang around their friends and socialize or play on their phones otherwise. This is not "Cheers". I don't think I've seen the same person twice there. The beer is cold, the tv's need to be dusted etc. The problem I had this time was the beer I was served was expired and in a overly frosted bottle with rust on it. I told the young bartender the bottle was nasty and expired. She promptly gave me another but was also expired. I sent that back also. She took them over to another person at the bar (which I think is still the owners girlfriend with over 20 years bar experience) and came back to me and said it was the "Born on date". I'm drinking Coors Light not Bud. So I ordered a Bud Light instead. Nobody knows the difference between the beer companys and the employees are clueless. By the way, only Anheuser Busch products use a born on date, and a rusty bottle is a clue it sat on the bottom of the cooler too long. Overall, I will go back when the outdoor section is open.
