We visit every few months and always enjoy the experience. This time we went for lunch with a group of friends. I had carrot and coriander soup which was very tasty. Others had whitebait which was nicely presented. I, and a number of others, had cod Mornay on rosti potatoes - very good and accompanied with a good variety of vegetables. I didn’t have a dessert but those who did enjoyed them. The service was of a reasonable standard, particularly considering the students were only in their first year. Well worth a visit, both as an enjoyable experience and to support the students.Thank you for your kind comments the students will look forward to seeing you in the restaurant again very soon.

Traditional English Pub serving good quality, great value home made food. Two meals for £10 available Monday to Thursday. Local Real Ales featured. These change weekly as The Anvil is a Freehouse. Live Music on Friday evenings (twice a month)

After travelling around the area trying to find a pub/restaurant that had space we came across the Anvil. Loads of space, empty in fact...should have realised why really. Spoke to the barman (owner?) who said they had just stopped serving but would ask the kitchen if they would accommodate us, which they did. We ordered some drinks which were highly over priced and ordered two fish and chips and two kids burger meals. The fish turned up swimming in fat and was almost inedable, we also ordered some onion rings which were also dripping, and I mean dripping in fat. The kids meals were ok.I was going to complian but felt bad as the kitchen had shut and they had kind of done us a favour. However when I was charged £70+ for 2 x fish and chips (not lobster by the way) and two kids burger meals I was astounded!!! Bear in mind we had paid for the drinks separately....! Never again and on speaking to staff from our accommodation they said it wasn't the best. Avoid.

We had such a wonderful lunch during Restaurant Week, as we have before in previous years. The food was really exceptional, and very generous too, unlike other places nearby which give tiny portions when offering a set menu. We left completely stuffed, ready for our return walk to Castle Rising. I must say though that when we have visited on normal days (including busy evenings) we have found the choice of meals very limited and the mains have been more or less the same for years. If the regular menu included food like this we would visit much more often, as the friendly staff always make it a lovely experience and the prices are very reasonable.

We just stopped for a light lunch and a drink on the basis of its well deserved good beer guide entry. The two starters we had to share (whitebait and charcuterie) were well presented and prepared and the welcome, beer and wine were excellent. We would certainly stop there again if repeating the journey.

Very friendly welcome on drifting into the pub and a welcome sight of gravity fed real ale being kept cool and quaffable! It encouraged us to stay for an evening meal. I started with caution and had some steak and chips after a mixed fried fish starter, but concluded that it was both well cooked and well presented and that with the aforementioned beer it would be worth a return. The next night involve a blue cheese salad followed by some salmon; too big for me but very well cooked. If staying in Shouldham this is the place to eat (and drink); realistically two consecutive nights of eating is probably the limit. The menu is not huge, which I think is a good thing-and there are specials and the beer is good and there are gins so sorry its up to you-just get prepared!

I imagine some would find him a little rude but he was very entertaining. Would certainly return if in KL again. We were told they didn’t accept cards so bring cash!
