From its origins as a Connecticut River trading post in 1633, Hartford has become not only the state capital but also the insurance capital of the world, with a slew of historical attractions, a thriving arts and entertainment center, a revitalized riverfront and beautiful parks and public gardens. It was here that the lovable Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer were born in the imagination of celebrated author Mark Twain and immortalized on paper during the writer's Hartford years. Twain's home and those of fellow literary figures Harriet Beecher Stowe and Noah Webster are open to the public. The Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest public art museum in the U.S., houses Pilgrim-Century furniture, the Amistad collection and a special treasure hunt system to entice kids to explore the museum's works. If your timing is right (end of June, beginning of July), you'll catch the Elizabeth Park rose gardens in bloom, but fall is also great for brilliant leaf colors, and spring yields colorful gardens and blossoming trees. For a bird's-eye view of the city, visit the observation deck of Travelers Tower, where you might also spot two resident falcons.

A common stomping ground for many in the area it’s location is spot on for a visual treat being road side to enjoy a meal outside, which will include tremendous amounts of people watching and traffic, gives that near city vibe. Anything on the menu is legit and the beer stays-a-flowing. Inside is cozy and warm , I prefer the outdoor patio. Easy to get to with parking right across the street. You can go alone or with the ol’crew, either way your going to enjoy yourself.

Went in for happy hour drinks not terribly busy. Has a high top table in the bar. Was more than happy to go to the bar on my own but they insisted we have a waiter. He also has 10 other tables. Needless to say the service was slow. Drinks were good, but took forever to come. Will go back but won’t get a table.

This is an excellent restaurant in area devoid of other restaurant choices. This part of Washington Street has little to offer except for the Hartford Hospital complex and the Superior Court a decent walk away. Nevertheless it is a fine restaurant in a well appointed building. The menu offers a good array of choices for lunch from excellent hamburgers to delicious wraps to individual pizzas. There are also more substantial entrees as well.

Primavera Pub

Four of us went for dinner on a quiet week-day night: Three of the four had pork and clams, a Portuguese classic. Primavera's version was served on huge platters on which diced home-fry-style potatoes were used a bed for the pork and clams. While the pork was flavorful, it was also undercooked and tough. The clams, which should have been the size of littlenecks were instead quahogs, not cooked properly and virtually un-chewable. The addition of some of the stewing juices might have been helpful to the overall quality of the dish.A shredded cod salad was inoffensive and not memorable. What were absolutely brilliant were the desserts made in-house, an excellent flan and especially the creme brulee—don't leave here without trying it!The selection of Portuguese wines was good although the waitstaff had no knowledge of what they were. Fortunately we did.Service was average—no complaints. Ambience is home-style and straight forward—no frills.

My wife and I used to come here every other weekend for brunch. It was by far our favorite place and one we recommended to many friends for brunch. Within the last year though they completely changed the menu and not for the better. When we asked we were told there was a new head chef. There are mostly only lunch items now, the home fries are terrible, and they don't offer the green eggs and ham sandwich and the birds in a nest meal has also changed. The atmosphere is still great but if you're a foodie then I'd sadly recommend elsewhere for brunch. Why fix what's not broken? Hi Mike, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that our food has missed the mark on your last few visits. We did make some changes to try to keep things fresh, but we do take guest feedback very seriously. We'll discuss your comments with our kitchen staff in the hope of making some improvements. We hope that you'll consider visiting us again. -Roobi

Very chill vibe, nice to just sit and relax over a nice lunch, and be left alone by the staff, but not forgotten. I highly recommend trying out Republic for a sublime dining experience.

Stopped in here on a quiet Sunday for lunch and was really surprised. I had an absolutely incredible Public House burger that was just what a burger should be. No frozen preformed patties here. This was a fresh, hand formed prime example of a medium rare masterpiece of meat. Their fries were good and the Guinness poured just right. Highly recommend.
