Ok, I have to admit that I liked this place so much I went here every day for lunch! But it looks like many expat business people did also as by 1pm it was pretty crowded. The food, coffee, service, decor were all very Western, prices pretty low and the menu of the day food almost local price. But the internet was amazingly fast when compared to what is usually on offer in Dili.

Specialising in bbq meat and fish, all done very well, especially the pork belly and mixed grill. It's very similar to City Praia (which is my favourite restaurant in Dili) in offerings and quality but it has a big open area overlooking the beach (can't miss it as it's the first place you see when driving out to Metiaut), so it costs more and charges extra for salads. So maybe only my number 2 choice in Dili for churrasco but definitely a great place for meat by the beach.

I come for lunch often. Their daily plate includes bacalhau com natas, bacalhau a braz, curry and rice among others. Home style and comforting (I am not Portuguese, but nonetheless). Chocolate croissants and custard donuts, when they are fresh, are also nice. Staff are always friendly and welcoming.

We went at Lo Cubano exactly ne year ago. We met Ocie, the owner and her husband Ricardo. She cooks delicious portugese, balinese and cuban meals (her lumpias are so good!) We spent a beautiful moment with them and they even took us on a trip to Maubisse! Super food and super couple! Thank you so much for everything!

I came here late as they were almost close but the staff was welcoming. I was looking for dinner but they sold out on beef stew and fish. I was hungry so wrap, toast and quiche didn’t seem appealing. Then I saw their cake display and was stunned. Everything looks mouthwatering and I want to try every single one of them! I ended up ordering a slice of carrot cake ($3). The cake was moist and crumbly, however the cream/icing on top is bit too sweet for my liking. Nevertheless, I went home happy with cake in my tummy :)

Tito's Restaurant

This is a decent oceanfront spot that serves Portuguese food. Or at least they try to, considering the availability of ingredients here in Dili. While everyone raves about the seafood rice, I don't know what all the fuss is about. It's only fair (particularly given the steep price), and the seafood in the dish is obviously previously frozen, which seems to be the norm among restaurants here. The octopus salad was fantastic. Come for the sangria and the oceanview.

Right on the beach in Metiaut. You can watch the sunset and order then move to your table when the food is ready. Everything cooked by one lovely lady. Staff are polite, friendly and well trained. Take your time and enjoy the ambience. Food serves are generous and so flavoursome. Very romantic. One of the best in Dili.

Amalia Restaurant

The cooking is simple but incredibly comforting. The restaurant's decor is basic yet very traditional and the outdoor terrace is a nice option for an enjoyable dinner during the dry season in Baucau. Several Portuguese dishes are available (try the rissóis because the dough is a winner) and a couple of vegetarian options as well (cap cay and spinach linguine). The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They speak good Portuguese and English. They even let us bring our own wine and we really appreciated his hospitality. We could easily imagine ourselves eating in a restaurant in Portugal and that sums it up.

We stayed the night as well as eating at the restaurant. Alice the proprietor was really welcoming and warm. We where escorted to our villa by a sweet staff member who showed us where the electrical switches etc were located. The villa was like walking into a beautiful log type cabin with lots of timber, a canopy over the bed, and looking back out the open glass doors: a view that is simply exquisite. The walk to the restaurant is situated in front of rolling hills, we were fortunate to be there at the end of the wet season which added to the beauty, we were surrounded by greenery. The view from the restaurant is the Indian Ocean, the view was breathtaking. The restaurant itself has a lovely setting with verandas and seating outside. The gardens are beautifully kept with winding paving and rock stairs descending toward the road which disappears amongst the vegetation. The service was simply sweet with smiles and polite staff aiming to make sure they met our needs. The food was delicious, there was four people in our group and each of us where happy with our meals. We had our desert and after dinner drinks out on the veranda, a pleasant way to finish off a great night.

Diza

The restaurant Diza as it was known no longer exists, we went there yesterday after reading some great reviews... the restaurant is now called Cara Vela... whilst when walking in the place looks nice and has great views, the staff were no longer attentive as reviews of the previous property had suggested ( they were too busy hiding behind counter doing each other’s hair and make up..) when wanting to order something we had to bang our salt and pepper shakers to get any attention... we ordered a gin and tonic which had no gin ( pretty sure it was water) then tried a cocktail which was also terrible and contained no alcohol... We were really looking forward to the octopus but decided given the experience so far that it wasn’t worth staying for and we left... very disappointing experience..
