Located beside the river Rhine, Speyer is 25 km (16 miles) south of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. Founded by the Romans, it is one of Germany's oldest cities. Speyer is dominated by the Speyer Cathedral, a number of churches and the Altpörtel (old gate). In the cathedral, beneath the high altar, are the tombs of eight Holy Roman emperors and German kings.

Stopped here for lunch and wanted to eat outside, but there were no tables with shade. The Mother of the owner was sitting at table under an umbrella and she went inside giving us her table.The waiter was very helpful with the menu. We ordered Sen.Schweineschhnitz and gyros-teller.

Such a great place for a quiet evening and excellent food. The service is excellent and so friendly. The menu choices are amazing with seasonal, weekly and daily specials if the standard menu choices are not enough. The home made gnocchi is probably the nicest I have ever had. The chocolate souffle is outstanding. A must visit.

Speyer was so busy with the Christmas Market on the last Sunday, we decided to drive to Paradies Am See. This would be a wonderful place to revisit in the summer so that we could enjoy the lake view.The food was excellent and has a Greek slant. The "mixed grill" and Lamb cutlets were cooked to perfection. Great staff, English speaking if your German is limited.This one goes straight to the top of our list!
