We were 6 men, cycling in Galicia, and staying at a VRBO rental in Lamela. We heard about Porta do Sol from the owners, and had the most amazing seafood dinners on Saturday night. Two of our group shared a huge & delicious portion of seafood chowder, the scallops (zamburiñas) were superb, as were the other fish dishes. When we asked about why few restaurants featured lamb or goat (cordero or cabrito), the head waiter said that they would be pleased to do a meal for us upon request. Well... given our cycling schedule, we returned the very next day for an amazing roast cordero (suckling lamb), done in the wood-fired, stone oven on the lower level, where we had a table set up just for us...after the late "almuerzo" diners were gone, and before the typical "cena" hours. (The restaurant is closed Sunday nights, so we could not schedule a cena there.) Preparation of the 6 kg cordero started hours before we arrived with lighting the wood fire, then slow-roasting the lamb in the stone oven... YUM!Our one vegetarian got a great dish of grilled vegetables; our host complimented the meal with a 2001 Reserve Rioja wine. Desserts included mini-samples of ALL the desserts on the menu, and...and then, the very cheerful local "orujo" [local brandy or grappa] topped off everything. Other reviews commented that the restaurant is expensive; well, that's true, since we ate extraordinarily well for 3 weeks in Galicia for 1/2 to 1/3 of what it would cost in most US cities. But our tab for this custom feast -- including 3 (Was it 4?) bottles of wine, and a generous extra tip (never a requirement in Spain), came to about 45 euros each (about $54 USD) for a meal that might be possible to find in the US for perhaps $100 - 150 a person, IF you could even find a restaurant that would accommodate your request. Our seafood meals the night before averaged about 25-35 euros a person.Porta do Sol is an experience of a lifetime! Don't miss it!Muchas gracias por su comentario. We had lunch at the OPote and it was very nice we shared a starter of croquettes followed by two huge sirloin steaks which we struggled to finish so no hope of dessert but we had a nice wine and coffees, it was a very nice experience.

Right on the Camino the cafe doesn't have a stamp to stamp the Camino passport.Doesn't live up to its name.Eat somewhere else.

Pleasantly surprised by this new restaurant (or, as better described âexperienceâ)⦠O Balado is certainly secluded but it brings back to the table what is really important: good produce, carefully treated ingredients, passion, serenity, calmness ⦠It can properly be defined as a restaurant serving âslow foodâ, sharing âslow timesâ⦠Relaxing atmosphere, wonderful food, simple and unpretentious. Our lunch âUnha Viaxe polo Baladoâ started with smoked cured salmon at the lareira⦠It was certainly sublime. The cheese, homemade, had the right smoky flavor (the 80/20 combination made it strong but subtle). Divine. The calamari croquettes were amazing, soft, velvety. So was the homegrown tomato with cheese⦠The anguia was nice and strong, a peculiar flavor that some will favor. The meat perfectly presented. The desserts were amazing, introducing the right degree of freshness after a strong meal. All in all I would strongly recommend this place, for the whole experience. Cannot wait to return during the winter and enjoy the coziness of that lareira⦠Certainly beautiful place with marvelous food. Thank you Marta e Roberto, we will be back!
